It's made by the same guys who made Flight 666 and Metal: A Headbanger's Journey.

I can't wait to see it. :D Rush are pretty private people so hopefully this documentary will provide insights into their lives and what not.

    Some info here.

I would love if this (somehow) got a cinema release in Ireland. I'd say it will definately be one to pick up on DVD tho

Maybe they could put it into one of the film festivals (next years Dublin Film Festival for example).

The fact they announced US dates only today...and playing Moving Picures in full. And last date on my birthday....who wants to contribute to the 'me going to Rush n Florida' fund?

First of the new Tour dates announced, here's hoping for a return to Europe on the next leg. Time Machine Tour.
Some of my friends made it into the movie, i narrowly missed out being interviewed LOL

Just a heads up. I recently bought R30 on blu ray which I originally thought was region locked but I can confirm it is region free and a good upgrade from the dvd.

One of the greatest bands ever .... can't wait for this movie. Fingers, Toes, Arms, Legs , Eyes and Balls crossed they come to Ireland as part of their European Tour in 2011 ... if not , it'll be back to the UK for me.

I reckon there are enough fans here for them to play a gig here. Have promoters ever tried to get them or do the band have an issue about playing here?

It was rumoured that they looked at Ireland during the planning stages of the S&A tour but needed 2 dates to make it pay .... would 1 in Dublin , 1 in Belfast sell out though :confused:

Ray as I said I just wonder have any of our promoters ever attempted to bring the band here. The 02 can hold close to 14,000 surely if they play in the UK they would not lose money by playing even just one night in Dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,815 ✭✭✭✭galwayrush

4 of my TNMS friends are on that trailer, front row SnA tour Glasgow show, i had a front row ticket for that show, but passed it on as i opted for the 2 London shows, Birmingham and Manchester and the 2 Rotterdam shows on that tour.:)

They did consider Dublin last tour according to Howard, their light show engineer, but as was said above, it would have needed 2 dates in Ireland to make it break even and the Point was closed at the time, it's a very expensive stage show. Don't rule out 2011 though;)

Lets hope so, what was the most memorable concert for you?. I haven't seen them and will go abroad this time if I have to.

Toronto, 2008, their home town, that was extra special.
Manchester's MEN Arena is amazing though, don't miss that one if they come to Europe next year.

Ive only seen them twice ... the R30 Tour in the NEC Birmingham , and then again for Snakes and Arrows in the NEC ... both were mindblowing, outstanding shows. If you get a chance to see Rush ANYWHERE - do it (even better if it's in our backyard of the O2 Dublin ;-) )

Cheers for that Galway and Ray. I will travel to see them this time.

We usually go to Birmingham cos it's usually dirt cheap to fly into with Ryanair and the NEC is located very near the airport. Book at hotel around the NEC or Airport and you're sorted. Top Tip though - don't mistakingly book a City Centre hotel, it's miles away and an expensive Taxi trip !!!!!!.

Can`t wait to see the movie too. Going to Molson and Air Canada Centre gigs. 15 rows from the front at both shows! Seen them in Toronto in 2002 on the Vapor Trails tour. Seen almost every tour since Roll the Bones (had a ticket for the NEC in 88 but my folks wouldn`t let me go as I was on 15 at the time!). Simply the greatest band of all time. Seen them 11 times so far. Hoping to double that total by the time they hit Europe next year :D

ahh class trailor the ULTIMATE band their just different class...really looking forward to getting this and of course the tour etc :)

That was brilliant - my only Rush show so far was the gig in Macnhester in 2007, honestly the best gig I've ever seen.

Earlier in the thread I mentioned that maybe one of the film festivals could show the movie - well maybe a few emails could go to the Dublin Film Festival to see if they'd show it next year (wouldn't be til Feb 2011).

I mean, it wouldn't be the first time they've shown a documentary about a band - they screened the Anvil movie last year (and Anvil were there, did a 3 song gig afterwards).

Maybe they could persuade Geddy & Alex to come over for a Q&A session, or even get all 3 of them over for a short set....(disappears off into daydream-land at the though of Rush doing an intimate show in Cineworld next febraury...)

    ;)

I agree totally. I was there too! The sound in the MEN is stunning! If you can only go to one gig in the UK for any band this is THE venue to go to.

Matt Cooper just said "how do I get Rush to play in Ireland?" mentioning the tour, Peter Aiken came the reply from Stuart Whatshisface of Hot Press.

    Excellent!

    Can't miss this.

I now face a dilemma though...book tickets now and pay using a credit card or wait to get them on the night and use my unlimited card, but face it being sold out.

    argh!

Yay, I was at the Toronto 2008 gig as well :D. Brilliant venue, brilliant weather, brilliant show - a lifelong dream come true. MEN is a cracking venue for a gig - seen Rush twice there.

Going to see them in Kansas on 1st July, not gonna make the showing of the movie in Dublin but will definitely pick up the blu-ray in the states.

I've the same problem. It's got to be the most ridiculous rule ever that you can't pre-book with the Unlimited Card. I think I'll buy a ticket today. I'd rather have the ticket than run the risk of turning up on Monday only to see the film name displayed in red on their screen. Nooooooooo!

Wish they would come to Ireland. Saw them in Sheffield a few years ago. unbelievable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,815 ✭✭✭✭galwayrush

Hearing fantastic reports about the movie screened tonight. FFS, 3 multiplex's and an arts cinema in Galway and not a single screen showing it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,899 ✭✭✭grimm2005

Was at the cineworld screening, was very good and now I wanna see them live more then ever! If they don't hit ireland when touring the next album I think i'll be making the trip across the pond to see em (presuming they play the UK)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭LD 50

I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was pretty good.

So, which one of you was it that was shouting "**** Rush. We want more ads!"

Was at Cineworld too last night ... excellent documentary - totally enjoyed it. Laughed out loud at so many moments. Looking forward to the DVD release

That was great! Loved seeing some of that really really early footage. Tempted to go over and see them again in the UK now. Fingers crossed they play here...but I would imagine it's highly unlikely as usual :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,902 ✭✭✭RayCon

To be honest , Im more optimistic about a first ever Irish date for Rush on the next tour. The fact that the O2 is a "Live Nation" venue , and capacity has been increased from the old Point might mean that Rush would no longer need 2 dates in Ireland to make it financially viable (as was rumoured about the Snakes and Arrows tour).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,144 ✭✭✭peter1892

Really enjoyed it. The missus, who wouldn't be a major Rush fan, enjoyed it so much that she's now demanding my copy of 'Hemispheres' and wants to go see them live!

And there were a lot of laugh out loud moments. Whether it was a goofy comment by Lerxst, a dodgy photo from the 70's or either Jack Black or Sebastian Bach coming across as utter obsessed loons. Great stuff!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,148 ✭✭✭damonjewel

I saw it last night too and really enjoyed it, there are plenty of laughs, and some great early footage. Liefson and Lee come across as 2 really funny, sincere and likable guys.
