No different than ads for magnum or galaxy showing women having mickey fits over the idea of eating chocolate.

Women? Having 'mickey' fits? What women do you know that have mickeys?

On topic, I agree with the General in that it's no different to those ads he mentioned.

I googled a funny yorkie picture to post here and all I got was a dog. How sad :(

Anyway, no it's not sexest. I love yorkies. If however, a woman tried to purchase one and said woman got refused her yorkie. I'm sure that's classed as discrimination.

I dont see why they chose to go with such an ad campaign?!

Barrys Tea- not for men!! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,850 ✭✭✭Cianos

It's just a campaign to provoke a reaction and in turn more exposure and marketing, which they have obviously done quite well if you're now writing a thesis on the subject.

Oh yeah? Then why does Barry have it in the first place? Because it's his tea damn it!
    :pac:

In the 1980s the Late Late show examined the then Yorkie advertising with assorted feminists saying their campaign was sexist because of a Yorkie-chomping driver being a big leery towards a lady overtaking his truck.

    "Big rich and thick
    A milk chocolate brick
Each bite's a chunky big mouthful...
...and when I reach that big old mill there's plenty more in store for me
From that chunky bar of mine."

Make of that what you will.

And give you false expectations, no woman ever waves her fanny in my face when trying to get by at a restaurant or cinema, no matter how daisy fresh they smell.

Its not sexist - they're not for girls.

Though it must be said, considering this thread, and I'm sure countless discussions on the very topic - the Yorkie Ad campaigns really have done their job well!

Yeah it kinda is, but it makes for funny adverts.

I'm actually just after eating two slabs(?) of my Yorkie bar I got with my Yorkie easter egg.
My favourite bar is Yorkie Biscuit and Raisin.

i dont see a problem with the ad campaign myself but would any ladies out there be put off by the campaign??

 Raisins are the devil Mars! Noone should take a perfectly good fruit and suck all the good parts out of em!!! and if you do insist on doing that, you should never mix fruit with chocolate!!! Honeycomb or plain Yorkies are the only ones fit for consumption!!! :D

I think there's enough exclamation marks in there to get my point across, but just in case!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you want to take it literaly, yea it's sexist, but then again, so are women only gyms... double standards?

Hah there was a thread about this before and I thought it was a bit strange (in this PC day and age ;)) that they'd get away with such a slogan !

I whipped up this snazzy alternative that I think they should run for a while !

    I wonder why!

Back to Yorkies, I only ate them when I was a girl. I found out recently they have a higher fat content than Dairy Milk, it's no wonder I looked like a barrell! Men, you're welcome to them...

Haha! Raisins are nyummy and taste even better in chocolate!

I can't remember trying the honeycomb one. Are they still in the shops?

They probably don't do the honeycomb Yorkie anymore, everything I love ends up destroyed. :(

Yes, fundamentally it is sexist. But when it first came out it was the only ad sticking up for men hidden amongst the vast sea of misandria that was the media of the time*.
When i first saw this ad at 15 it actually made me happy, it gave me hope that a time when men and women are finally seen as equal. Where men are allowed stand up for themselves instead of being expected to let women walk all over them and where women have been taken down off their pedestal of infallibility.

I admit that i was a bit bitter towards women in general (not specific women though) at that age , but why shouldn't i have been? The message growing up was always "women can do everything men can do, but there's loads of things women can do that men can't and women have all these special privileges that men don't get" (basically women> men). The few times i ever picked up a sunday newspaper i inevitably saw some "feminist intellectual" columnist spouting another variation on the theme girls>boys".All the while I never saw any columnist even suggest boys>girls , even boys=girls didn't really seem to happen .

*I'm not sure if things have gotten better or if i've just grown up and stopped taking such things to heart like i used to. Probably a good bit of both.....

    Cant fault a Yorkie bar.

I lived on them in Secondary school.

The chunky bricks made great weapons to fire around the class along with masking tape balls ;)

They have male-only gyms as well - they're the ones with all the free weights ;)

In actuality, a male-only gym is one of the more frightening things I can think of.

I love Yorkies. I was in a shop one night and decided to treat myself so picked one up. The stupid fcuker fella behind the counter starts messing with me telling me i'm not allowed buy it cos i'm a girl.
He shut up quick enough after i looked at him like he'd two heads.
No man comes between me and my chocolate :D
