Seeing as there's a thread about how long you've managed to stay awake, lets flip the coin and see how long people have slept in one session...

Managed 27 hours myself through lack of sleep and jetlag coming back from America once.

agreed, the most i remember is about 11, and i felt wonky the whole day after it. > 7 hours is too much for me.

I was tired and I was weary and I could sleep for one thousand years.

    So I did.

But I kept getting woken by one thousand dreams that would awake me.

So to answer your question - about 18 hours after a few days of no sleep and a big pile of drugs.

Can't say I've ever kept track really. Longest I've ever stayed in bed, not including sickness is probably 18 hours (midnight to dinner time), but I don't recall ever continuously sleeping more than 12 hours.

12 1/2 or 13 hours after staying up a couple of days without sleep.

I doubt I've ever been able to sleep for much more than two hours without waking up.

    I'm a very light sleeper.

    Similar story.

Jet lagged with a severe upper respiratory infection. Friday night - 11:45pm through Sunday 3:30pm.

So 15 minutes short of 40 hours.

Probably 20 or so, lot of times in my youth where I would have help to stay awake for a few days then when I would stop I would be down for a long time.

"I haven't slept for ten days.........Cos that would be too long." - Mitch Hedberg.

But I'd say about 12 hours. Jetlag is a b*tch.

weekend just gone - 13 hours 10pm to 11.10am, felt v guilty that I had wasted a day of a long weekend. Years ago did 24 hours after a very very long weekend with little or no sleep, took a while to get over losing a day in the middle of the week!

Did 25 odd hours after an almighty drinking session rang the lads looking to go back to the pub to be informed it was monday ... I still went the pub anyway !

10 / 11 hours max and that would only be because i had been up for the previous 24 hours and was exhausted.

Most I've ever slept must've been about about 13 or 14 hours, which made me feel like crap the whole day after it.

On average I need about 9 or 10 hours or I'm wrecked. My sleeping habits are a complete bitch. :(

I got up one day and was astonished to realise it was 4pm! I'd gone to bed at about 1am. 15 hours.

There's no backstory to that either, I wasn't up for a week beforehand, there were no chemical stimulants involved. I don't know what happened. I've had insomnia at times, maybe my body was trying to even things out.

About 10 or 11 hours I think. That was after coming back from Australia where I'd been out drinking the night before and only got about 4-5 hours sleep. I was then awake from about 8am on the morning I left Sydney, all the way through the flight home, and I stayed up until about 10pm that night when I got back to Ireland. I think I worked out I'd been awake about 45 hours solid at that stage.

Actually, if you were to measure your length before getting up after a night's sleep, you'll be an inch or two longer. Since I'm normally 5'11⅔", that's enough to put me over the edge in the morning.

I think my longest was about 16 hours, after a 40-hour day. You can only drink so much coffee before your nervous system gets the yips.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

14 to 15 hours, I was doing evenings and covering a couple of night shifts one week in my old job and it messed me up.
    Usually sleep between 4-7 hours

jet lag is mad, i slept for about 13 hours after landing in Australia got up for about 15 minutes was so wrecked i decided to go for a snooze and woke up 10 hours later! Missed a whole day of my holiday  the connecting flights meant the trip across was extra sleep deprived, plus i couldnt sleep on the planes !

Alcohol may be a solution here

Wow. 10 or 11 hours would nearly be considered normal for me. I should cut back. I think I'm a sleep junkie. :(

A friend always calls the nights sleep after a heavy night out, a 'Coma session' for obvious reasons :)

12hours is a must for two days out of a week for me. with 8 or 9 im still tired. something like 20-22hrs being my longest.

About 15 hours I think. One Christmas I awoke, it was dark, looked at my watch and it said 6 O'Clock. Naturally I thought it was am. Wrong!

About 23 hours when I was 6. Came home from my granny's house super cranky so I was forced to have a nap on the couch at 3. Woke up at 2 the next day completely confused and wouldn't believe my mam that I had slept on the couch that long.

    bout 16 hours

I'm on my mid-term now so I sleep for around 11-12 hours most nights (because if I don't have college, but sometimes when I do). I find it seriously hard to get up after 8-9 hours, like I have to be dragged out of bed. I sleep through alarms and most other noises. I really wish I could sleep for 7-8 hours rather than 12 :(

The longest sleep I can recall is the day after Paddys day last year; two days of heavy drinking with a couple of hours sleep thrown in. I got home and fell asleep at around 5.00PM and woke up around 1.00PM the next day so around 18 or 19 hours.

not very long but.... first lads holiday i went on i was 16 and i went with my brother and all his mates, first night out heres me thinking i could out drink them all because i could handle the first few hours we got back to the apartment around 6 and i woke up on the floor at what i thought was 3.15 in the day so i head down stairs to the pool in all of my drunken glory and theres nobody there:eek: so i just take a quick drunk swim(great fun) and take a quick kip on a sun bed, wake up at 9 o clock that night completely **** scared and badly sunburned, realise now that i woke up at 9.15 am as my head could not prosess the difference between the big hand and small hand after the many many many shots:rolleyes:
i like the way nobody bothered to wake me up although i did have the best holiday of my life and cant wait to do it all again:D
i came back from that week and slept for a good 18 hours still hungover till the week after:eek:

on a day to day basis 11-12 hours at weekends or depending if i have a match or if i go out the night before

school nights a mear 6-7 hours:(

after any kind of mad holiday/music festival or the likes i usually need 15-20 hours to get back to myself. the longest ive gone is about 24 hours, i had been on an all night, all next day and night bender. i woke up and had to ask what day it was, never again!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,114 ✭✭✭corkcomp

Probably around 17 hours or so.

I tend to leave my work 'til the last minute which usually results in a few days of very little sleep, then a sh!tload when the "emergency" has passed.

I had a really bad flu once and slept for 36 hours.
During college holidays I sleep for 12-15hours a night if I can.
