Whitney Houston has been admitted to hospital in Paris suffering from "nose and throat problems". Her Paris show on Sunday was postponed and tomorrows show in Manchester is also in jepordy.
With 3 Dublin shows just over a week away, surely they must be in some doubt.

two shows in manchester cancelled for thurs and fri, and sunday's show in glasgow cancelled too. apparently they have been rescheduled for may/june. i'd say we'd want to be getting worried alright

It'd be risky for the promoter to re-schedule the gigs. If they do that people will be entitled to a refund and anyone who has seen any of the videos from the Australian leg of the tour will jump at that chance :)

    Hi All

I am going to Whitney Houston in the O2 and wondering if Block C Row 21 are good seats? Does anybody know or sit there before?

    Thanks

any info about the gigs themselves? Are they still on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,140 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

My girlfriend and her sisters have shelled out alot of money for this gig.

Shes been unemployed for a year and this was her kinda, treat for herself, and I'm hoping to god it gets cancelled.

Theres been some pandamonium on the radio today. The reviews for the tour have been terrible, and her performances have been absolutely shocking.

Theres a group that are trying to lobby ticketmaster for refunds on their tickets due to the concert not meeting a certain standards but the promoters and ticket master are coming back with the " well if shes there, and the concerts rubbish, its not our problem."

Its shocking considering the tickets cost 100 euro a pop, and I'm hopnig to god it gets cancelled so she can get her money back, rather then a completely wasted night of junk.

I hope it's cancelled too, i have some friends going and looking at this I hope it is.

From 3.09 it's horrendous at the climax of the song

I'm not sure is it genuine concern or jealousy fuelling the last 2 posts but it is really frustrating to see people jumping on the bandwagon of something they know little or nothing about...So there have been a few bad reviews of her recent concerts but there have also been a few very good reviews and and HUGE amount of reviews saying that she was good.

I actually made it my business to read the reviews of those who were at her nottingham concert last night and the birmingham one the night before and they all seemed very pleased with her performance and i would definately hold their first hand experience of being there in a much higher regard than those hysterics who like to make a drama out of whatever it is in the papers in a particular day!!!

How is posting a video clip of a bad performance by Whitney Houston at a concert, jumping on the bandwagon? I'm annoyed that my friends forked out over €200 for 2 tickets to see a past it performer and hope to god the performance will be good for them. Money isn't easy to come by anymore.

I would love to see these reviews that you talk about, you must work for Aitken Promotions or O2.

I'll get back to you on Sunday after the Saturday night performance and let you know how they got on will I?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 TILLYMAM

No need, i shall see for myself when i'm there on Sat night I too have forked out to go see her but i am taking into account the good as well as the bad reviews and i will come to my own conclusion after the show, here's just one example of the reviews out there...

Not a bad review in fairness

Genuinely hope it's a good night for everyone who forked out.

I have always loved Whitneys 80's music and it was on this basis I bought tickets for her gig. However I'm not a fan of the new album so was kinda regretting my decision to fork out over €100. I've been to concerts in the past which have got dire reviews but were actually good. Madonna in Slane being one example so I tend to ignore reviews. However there is now another reason the gigs may be cancelled and that is our volcanic cloud. If the weather 'experts' are correct the 'cloud' may remain for at least a week. That would make it complicated to get Whitney and the equipment from the UK unless they get a ferry.

Did anyone hear that the concerts might be cancelled due to the volcano?

My sister just rang me there asking if I knew anything about it, as if she's (Whitney's) not in the country at this stage, they don't know how her plane will get in.

    A message from

    WHITNEY

Whitney Houston travelled by ferry from the UK and arrived in Dublin yesterday, Thursday April 15th.

When Whitney was made aware of the airport closures due to the volcanic ash, she made the decision to drive from Birmingham to Dublin via the ferry, so that she would not disappoint her Irish fans.

She is delighted to be in Ireland and is very much looking forward to performing in The O2 this weekend and Tuesday April 20th.

I probably shouldn't chime in here - but I've read some of the stuff in this thread out of interest as I had seen the horrific performances on TV from the Oz dates............

I'm glad for anyone that is going to the Dublin shows that the UK performances went well, but seriously any performer that wasn't ashamed of themselves after what she gave to the fans in Oz is a disgrace........she as a professional singer must have known in advance that she wasn't in any stage to give a good performance - but maybe she was unwell and didn't want to disappoint people - I'd much rather be disappointed by cancellation than by one of my favourite artists murdering their back catalogue..........

Exactly my sentiment. While I don't declare Whitney as one of my favourite artists I do love her 80's music which is why I jumped at a chance to see her live. I don't really mind if someone gets a bad review as alot of the time it is personal opinion. However after seeing a video on You Tube of I'll always love You from Birmingham I'm a liitle worried. I'm aware of sound quality from these recordings but this saw her stopping singing every few seconds and walking around looking a bit out of it. I really hope that these gigs won't be a disaster for Whitney or those of us going to see her :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,550 ✭✭✭NIBBS

well hopefully it won't be like that - but she's not got a very good track record in recent years.........but this could be one of the good weeks :-)

Ive genuinely no sympathy for people who are bitching or will bitch about the concert you couldnt pick up a newspaper for years without reading about her and Bobby being addicts. It was beyond public knowledge.

Imagine long term crack use affecting someone's voice.

What a waste of time and money never again....
I went saturday night to the 02 dublin and it was crap.
I feel sorry for Whitney to be honest she has lost it all.
Whilst the Irish are vey good natured they were doing their best to encourage her all the way but during her I will always love you song she even turned the mike around to the crowd saying she would appreciate the help (am not joking). She was awful people did walk , a few heckled however most did try and encourage her but it was nothing short of a disaster. I heard loads of people giving out ..as she struggled to sing any song .

Couldnt agree more, There were points were it felt so awkward when the crowd was silent and didnt have a clue what she was talking about.
And as for her pointing the mic at us in the crowd, ok maybe its acceptable for one or two songs, but for feck sake, doing it for majority of the concert was unbelievable!!! pretty sure my mate who got me the ticket as a present paid for us to hear her sing and not us just sing back to her.
I'm so disappointed like seriusly.. it was the most unusual, unpleasant, horrible depressing concert ive ever been to bar when she sang how will i know and I wanna dance with somebody because the upbeat tempo made the crowd actually get a chance to get up an dance rather than sit there in utter awe and shock at how spaced she is..
And what was the deal with starting a song and walkin away for bouit 5 r 6 mins to fix her make up or hav a drink..
Hope shes back on form for 2moro nights show .. shame people are having to leave mid way cos its an utter disgrace!

How the hell can her record label and manager do this to her and us the fee going public. It was a scam , I booked long before she appeared in Xfactor so I assumed she had come round . I sat there in shock and anticipation waiting on her to burst into a song but she just get rambling into talk similar to the teletubbies from years back....She is definetly off her head and what the hell was that all about starting a song stopping turning her back to us and going to put her make up on? She picked a child from the audience to give her goodies as she was not sitting with her mum at first I thought aah but then people beside me started shouting stop with the act...
After ten minutes of that she left the stage got changed came back & started talking (mumbling) to the child again. I have never witnessed anything like it , shame on The 02, aiken promotions , ticketmaster ,Clive Davis & Sony... I hope she doesn't end up like her pal Michael Jackson who she paid tribute to at her concert. She had a huge picture of him & was mumbling I love you to him for what seemed like ages.........

People are allowed to express their opinion if they wish to, what gets boring is when people keeping going on and on and on about the same thing but not actually contributing to a thread. I'd also advise you that the next post in this forum be on topic.

Even if their opinion was ill informed or deluded? The dogs on the street knew about Whitney Houston. Her reality show a few years ago was shelved because of her drug use and how she conducted herself there was literally no useable footage that the production company could use. Concert promoters are the biggest hucksters and carnys in entertainment they'll promote anything which will make them money regardless of intrinsic quality of the performer they aren’t arbiters of quality. It is simply case of caveat emperor.

the number of posts someone has, has nothing to do with their opinion of themselves.

Back on topic, whitney the o2 etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 545 ✭✭✭musicmania

I am heading to see her tonight though at this stage I wish I wasn't. I go to alot of gigs and have never before felt like this. I couldn't care less about the money at this stage (though it would come in handy to pay for other gigs! :P) If it is as bad as everyone is saying Clive Davis and others close to her should hang their heads in shame. I can see why The O2 and Aiken couldn't care less about what state she is in, not that I agree with their money grabbing scruples but we did take a risk in buying the tickets so only have ourselves to blame. However Rovert I find your opinions very harsh and extremely set in your ways. People can change. I saw Whitneys interview on Oprah and she seemed ok. A bit mad maybe but not crazy and out of it like has being reported in some of her concert reviews. I think the main problem is she took on too much too soon and that is a shame. I'm hoping tonight is an improvement on last night as some of her other concerts had very contrasting reviews. Will let you all know how I get on. I write concert reviews so I should be able to give a constructive review of what happens.:(

Sorry but I dont get the point you are directling are me. I dont think there is anything that harsh I previously said. Without repeating what I already said her relationship with Bobby Brown and drug abuse were a long running media saga and Irish concert promoters are only interested in one thing. If people are a fan of hers to the degree they would comtemplate shelling out €100 they should have known those factors, none of it was a secret. Would people complain if this was a Pete Doherty or Amy Winehouse gig?

Why are some people criticising the O2 for this? Aiken rented the venue surely?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,472 ✭✭✭stockdam

My GF is going to this tonight - it sounds like it's going to be painful.

I have read some reasonably optimistic reviews and I would agree that the people going are hoping that she will give a good performance.

It's disgraceful if lots of people feel that they haven't got anywhere close to value for money. Performers and promoters should be accountable and not be able to take the money and run.

Maybe tonight she'll be better though.
