I've recently started a job and the hours are 3am-11am monday-friday , sucks ey? :pac:

Anyways, my sleeping pattern is completely messed up as you have prob already guessed, I go to bed at 9 and I try so so hard to sleep but I don't end up falling asleep til about 11/12 so I'm only getting in 4 hours AT MOST sleep before work. I then drink a lot of herbal tea in work, about 5 cups. I usually have a slice of wholemeal toast and 2 rashers before work so that's at about 2:30ish, then just herbal tea in work. Anyways I would have thought been on my feet all night would make me lose a lot of weight as instead of lying in bed I'm on my feet, because during the day is the same for me, as in I don't go to bed when I get home, I do whatever it is I usually did before getting the job then I go to sleep at 9.

Here's the thing, I started this job a week ago and I've gone from 10st 10lbs to 11st 4 lbs and my diet has been better if anything!! I cut out bread, pasta and potatoes completely in the past week yet I'm up 6 lbs!

Can anyone suggest why this might be happening. I'm really down about it

First off, you haven't put on 6 pounds of fat in a week. It would require an *ENORMOUS* amount of effort to achieve that (if it's even possible). So while you may be carrying extra weight, I would guess that most of it is from:

    water
    or
in your intestines (i.e. you need to have a good oul' poop)
    or
you were dehydrated when you were 10st 10 and well hydrated at 11st 4
    or
    some combination of the above.

But I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep an eye on your weight over time (i.e. over 3-4 weeks).

what he said ... Ive worked night shifts before so i know its a pain the butt .. but that shift is even worse:eek: I found getting some tough exercise in before work at night means I fell asleep straight away in the mornings.

    couple of things ..
wats the rest of your diet like? some detail would help us give you more sound advice. also is there any reason you dont go to bed when u finish work? not tired or just have lots of stuff to do during the day? i would play around with an afternoon nap of maybe a half hour or and hour cos your just compoubding the issue of bad sleep by ensuring you don't allow yourself plenty of it especially with that shift.

I regularly fluctuate by anything up to 4 pounds. For me it has a lot to do with fluid intake and timing (maybe a cheap scales ^ ^).
This is why I only weigh myself after soccar on wednesdays.

Ok a typical day's diet these days would be...

2:30am : Slice of brown toast with butter and 2 rashers grilled

3am-8am : About 5/6 cups of herbal tea

    8am : Apple

    11pm : 5 oatcakes with tuna + 1 slice of cheese + tomato

I sleep for the afternoon then

6pm : Whatevers going for dinner (try to limit carb intake)

I sometimes sleep and I sometimes don't. It all depends on the sleep I got the night before really

You should be going to bed 8 hrs before you get up, so hit d sack around 7, then get up fresh-as-a-daisy at 3am, just like most people do at 5/6 ish. I think thats a deadly shift, sure you're home by midday and still have 7 waking hrs in front of you! Handy for nixers, gym, etc.
