Ladies, I'm thinking of going north and getting the full monty done on my teeth. Cost would be in the region 4-6 thousand euro. It's been my dream for sometime but now I'm beginning to wonder should I give it to a member of my family whose recently lost job, and really could make better use of it. Dont know... any advice:(

Is it orthodontic work or veneers? I think teeth are an investment for life and would go for them, sorry if I sound heartless.

shudder , dentists are my biggest fear, but i will try not to sound biased!

have you looked at getting it done in europe for cheaper? people are always talking about dentists in hungary and places being brilliant and so much more inexpensive, and im pretty sure there are irish companies that arrange it and all so you get your consultations in english etc.

that way you could get dream teeth and have some change for your family member!

Id agree, im in the process at the moment ive to get teath taken of me and some fillings put in, and some other work done. tho at the moment where working on getting my lungs gums healthy... I do have bad teath but the dentist did turn rounf and say listen you do have an haraidtory bad gums and teath... which made me feel a bit better. tho im in the same position as my mum regarding teath at the moement when she was my age...

The reason im getting them done is because i feel i need to. Im a good looking person and my teath let me down..

altho excuse the line through lungs I ment gums and i made a spelling mistake but its kinda funny.:D

I would definitely get this done, I hate my teeth and really want to get veneers done when I can afford it, I never smile in photos cos I think they're so wonky!! I really don't want to look back in 20 or 30 years time at all the photos of me with a tightlipped smile and think why didn't I do something about it!! My dentist never once mentioned braces to my parents when I was growing up, I couldn't stand having them now at 26 so veneers would be my choice. A friend of a friend got them done in Budapest, she had her first appointment with som crowd in Dublin and the work was done with their partners out there, cost half the price and they are meant to look amazing!!
    Go for it OP!!!

Do they have any reason to actually need money?
I think it is a horrible idea to mix family, friends and money. Unless there is a genuine need to do it, or you genuinely don't expect it back or any gratitude for that matter.

At the end of the day, noone elses going to make your dreams a priority.
Someday you'll probably have kids, and you won't be in a position to spend large sums on things specifically for you.

I think you should use the money for your teeth, if it's going to make you feel better about yourself then it's defintiely worth it. I spent 2k on getting mine fixed up and it made a huge difference to my confidence.

    Go for it :)

I reckon the teeth is the way to go. I kept putting off getting such stuff done because there was always something that seemed more immediate, so I kept going for the short term gain. If I had done it years ago I'd be well over it by now.

Another point, raised a few points up, is mixing family and money. Unless their is a specific need, you'll always wonder in your mind what they're spending the money on. When you see them going on holidays you might wonder if they had stayed at home you might have a year less to wait for your teeth etc.
If you really want to help them out, maybe do it in a non-monetary way... make yourself available to mind their kids while they go to job interviews, or help them with their cv etc etc. Even if time is at a premium you might be able to buy them something specific that'll help them out.

I think you should go for it especially if it's something you've always wanted
    to get done.

Just be careful about who you get it done with up North, some horror stories about people getting their teeth done on the cheap up there, coming home and having to have the whole work fixed by their own dentist. Same with the places in Europe, but then again you might have no problems with anything, but to be aware of the risk! There was a feature on it on the Midday TV3 show, forget what day but if you are interested, might be worth a look on their website to see it!!!
