Hey everyone, I'm going to be buying a weightbench and a barbell (with weights obviously) this week. I'm a beginner I guess, been using machines mostly up to now and have decided to switch to freeweights entirely.

Anyway my budget is about €300, I'll probably be buying from argos unless you guys can recommend anything better. Also home delivery is absolutely necessary..

    Thanks in advance!

You'll get a better deal on www.irish-lifting.com as opposed to argos. I've ordered plenty from there. In my opinion, a squat rack would do a lot more good than a bench, but that's obviously up to you. Consider getting one in the future.

Yeah it is much better value to buy a lighter weight set that you will inevitably outgrow. You will have them for years It's worth it to invest a bit more for a proper olympic set and such.

I just don't have the money at the moment I'm afraid.

Dont buy the Everlast Bench Press from Argos anyway. The things for holding the bar are too wide, they're exactly in the spot where you would want to grip the bar for the perfect wide grip press, and hence you have to grip the bar far too wide. Its a disaster

Theres plenty of stuff you can do with a bar and ~100kg of weights. (no rack/bench)
Deadlift, Power Cleans, Shoulder Press, Front Squat, etc...

I got a standard bar and a few weights from Irish lifting. Did me for a while until I saved enough for the full kit.

Then save up. Maybe do bodyweight exercises to get some base strength up while you wait.

If you are going the home route, the worst thing you can do is buy poor equipment.
