Just wondering how do you guys keep motivated? A couple of friends of mine just recently had this conversation with me "if you're in good health everything is ok in moderation" yadayadayada typical stuff that you get from people who think you are being extreme etc. My husband also thinks I'm mad with all the things I "try" for the kids and for me. I do try to get to the best possible diet for us mostly for healthy reasons of course but it's such a constant battle against the world with everybody around you thinking you're off your rocker. I have recently (I admit) been a little bit down about some things and Jeezzz sometimes I am inclined to go "ah feck it what's the point".

I do however realize that it has made my health better (I think) and that of my kids I think but how do you keep always "going against the grain"? Anybody?

Hi Khannie, ta for than link. I actually think the title of my original post is a bit misleading, I do not lack motivation, I am very motivated when it comes to eating and I find it very easy to give up day to day the things that are not good for me (like sugar). I have a very addictive personality and once I "start" on something I find it very difficult to stop so I prefer to say to myself "right, you're off sugar altogether" rather than you can have a little bit every so often etc.

My problem is the "a little bit of everything and everything in moderation" brigade. The people than think that so long as you eat reasonably well there is no problem with following the traditional nutritional pyramid and if you tweak it a bit and have a little less veg and little more sweets and some fizzy drinks while you're at it sure that's not going to kill you! It annoys me because I am doing the very best for me and my family and the reason why they don't is, let's face, cos they're not bothered!

So I suppose when I started this thread what I was looking for is people to share their experiences as to how eating healthily and being more healthy in general has improved their lives. The "brigade" that I was talking about before, their argument is that one can be healthy even if you just eat like everyone else and that all of our society's illnesses are just there because they're there and have nothing to do with nutrition.

I should probably just stop making any comments whatsoever even to my very best friends and just "get on with it" in private!
