Hi guys, obviously there are hot girls and ugly girls. but at what age do you think any particular girl/woman looks her best? would you be more attracted to the likes of an 18 yr old girl or someone a little older or alot older? do women get more unattractive as they age in mens opinion? are lines/wrinkles a turn off?

fill out the pole attached and it'll give us girls an idea of what aged women men go for.
i know some of you are 50 and some 18 but what age would your ideal beauty be?

    Damn right.

I think lots of guys would agree that there's nothing attractive about a woman of any age who is totally hung up on how she looks all the time.

OP, men are just like women in that they all find different things attractive at different stages and ages of their lives. Young boys will find young girls more attractive, mature men are more attracted to mature women (I hope!).

You can't change your age, so don't get too hung up on it.

i agree with what you're saying to a certain extent giselle, but women HAVE to be self obsessed. i mean its a cruel world out there for women over 30!! im 29 and i aint getting any younger. men just dont want women in their 30s. they want the younger ones. so im trying to look as good as possible

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,925 ✭✭✭Otis Driftwood

If you know what men want then why the need to start this thread, the poll and the other thread?

At the end of the day,one person will be attracted to another irregardless of wrinkles or laughter lines. Its how a woman (or bloke for that matter) carries themself thats most important. There is nothing more unattractive than someone that is totally obsessed with their looks and that has a shit fit whenever they notice a new wrinkle.

Im heading for 31 and have dated women 10 years younger and 10 years older than myself and a few wrinkles or lack of wrinkles was something that was completly irrelevant with any of them.

It's only a cruel world after your 20s if you don't have anything to offer the opposite sex beyond a lack of crow's feet.

Can't be narrowed down that much as everyone's different.

I guess 17-27 would be best estimate. Men are programmed to be attracted to this age group as most fertile at this stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,639 ✭✭✭Sugar Free

Yeah the poll needs the ability to choose more than one option.

I picked 21-23 but then I'm only 24 myself. It's entirely possible that my preference will increase with my own age but really it will probably just go from 21 - whatever my age is at that time give or take a few years.

Of course this is only if we're talking about physical appeal and not compatibility/desire to be in a relationship.

Yeah, I guess it's a well known fact that once women hit 30, their chances of getting a guy are dramatically decreased.

But oh well, life as a spinster probably isn't so bad. You could buy some cats for company, or something.

As a single woman who's just hit the 30 mark, I gotta say it really doesn't matter what age you are. Once you think you're old, you look old. End of.

ps - when I hit 50 I know I'm gonna give my right arm to be 30 again. Hence why I've decided to swallow it up and get on with it - these are the best days of our liiiives!!

Sounds to me like you are buying into media stereotypes, I know lots of women in there 30's who look great, have lots of self confidence, and are intelligent and interesting company! And they are not self obsessed with their appearance :)

I think you are focussing far too much on cosmetic appearance, a pretty shell with no confidence that is incapable of carrying on an interesting conversation with no confidence is going to be unattractive at any age.

I know a fair few women over the age of 30 who are lovely people and drop dead gorgeous to boot.

Age isn't really a big factor in my books, but it can be for others and in general women don't like to go out with younger men.

Maybe it reflects the male posting age of Boards? ;)

When I would have been early to mid 20's, it would have been the age profile I would have picked.

From 17/18 to about 23 is when I think women are generally at their most physically attractive, with some exceptions, like Liz Hurley!

Their is more to it than just physical beauty though.

PS. I remember reading a piece recently where women themselves felt they were most attractive between about 30 and 35.

To a certain extent they are. The things associated with youth - clear skin, firmness, body rarios, are also associated with fertility. Subconsciously we're attracted to what's fertile. Which is probably why in advertisements using attractive people the men can be significantly older than ones that use attractive young women.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,199 ✭✭✭G-Money

I was very attracted to a woman recently and it turned out she is 33, turning 34 later this year. I thought she was hot as hell, infinitely more attractive than a lot of women younger than her.

But then she completely blanked me so I suddenly don't find her anywhere near as attractive anymore.

Each to their own. I know we haven't been talking about famous people but Nicole Kidman is definitely one woman who's got much better looking as she's gotten older.

When I was younger I was into older women. Now that I'm in my early 30's, I tend to prefer women a few years younger than me. Same way I used be completely gaga over blonde women, but now I much prefer girls with dark or jet black hair.

Guys have different tastes and they can change. You can't really say definitively that all guys like younger women, or all guys like older women.

The poll asks at what age do women look their best?

As men age they might be more attracted to older women but I'm sure they would still say they looked their best in their early 20's.
If you find a classy, natural lookin woman with a good figure in her early 30's you have hit the jackpot
But that would hardly be the average woman in her 30's. So basically you want a woman in her 30's who still looks like a woman in her 20's. Which means you also think women look their best in their 20's.

No one is saying that women can't be good looking in their 30's it's just that they were probably better looking in their 20's.

Why not do a similar poll on all of the following in a woman:

    Hair colour
    Eye colour
    Skin colour
    Length of hair
    Height
    Dress size
    Shoe size
    BMI

but for heaven's sake DON'T ask anything about these in a woman:

    integrity
    academic achievement
    entrepreneurialism
    kindness
ability to get on with people

Its amazing the amount of people who get caught on that.

Anyway, it probably is a pointless question. Women between about 16-25 are at their most physically beautiful but not necessarily at their sexiest!

That sums it up for me. Liz, Nicole, Nigella and Christina in Mad Men are proof of that!

I think another thing is that women don't age as well as guys. Men apparently have thicker skin membrane which doesn't wrinkle as easy as womens. Having said that I think if a woman looks after herself and her body - age doesn't really become an issue with me. She would have to be reasonably close in age of course. Look at the stunning women out there in the 40's - Demi Moore, Sharon stone, Carol Vorderman, to name but a few. Women at that age can be very very sexy.

Funny you should say that. I think that the poll (not pole, as the OP spelt it) is irrational and covertly misogynistic. It objectifies women and suggests that they have a sell by date after which they are no longer physically attractive. Do women have nothing else to offer only their physical appearance? How would the men here like if somebody put up a poll with different salary brackets and asked the women which of those salary brackets would be more attractive in a man?

I know that men respond to women's physical appearance just as bulls respond to cows on heat and stallions respond to mares in season. However, I thought that Homo sapiens had evolved beyond being driven by hormones alone and that both men and women make informed decisions which aren't entirely based on reactions programmed into the reptilian brain. If this poll is a true reflection of how men think then humankind has taken an evolutionary leap backwards.

Women think differently. For example, I think that Ralph Fiennes looks as good today as he did 20 years ago, albeit in a different way. Women differ in that we think that a few lines and grey hairs can add to a man's appeal.

I was being sarcastic about men's wallets because men get hung up on the way women judge their salaries in the same way women get hung up on the way men judge their looks. The truth is we don't really care as long as he's not a scrounging bum who's too lazy to scratch his ass but some men think that all women are after is money

Don't kid yourself that women don't make similarly judgemental but different decisions. They're just less obvious. In any event we've still got the 100,000 yr old sapiens brain. Why will people chose sweet things over a plate of salad? Ancient instinct. Sweet tastes are rare and seasonal in nature, but give a helluva bang for the buck calorie wise. Very important for our ancestors. Health nightmare now with the abundance of such foods.

Yep women do think differently on this score. Ralph Fiennes looks as good today as 20 years ago, because all things being equal he's still fertile(though more likely to have daughters as an older man apparently), is probably more stable in his head with the passing of the years and is likely settled socially. So the grey hairs and lines mean little and may actually trigger a favourable response in a woman.

The reverse is not the same in men looking at women. A woman in her late 40's while more settled in her head and life, is not fertile. If she still is, the chances of a successful and healthy pregnancy is massively lower than when she was in her late 20's and off the scale compared to when she was 20.

Yes we have an intellect strapped onto our "reptile" brain and yes it can overwrite much of the lower responses, but deep down the influences are there.

Why do men like full breasts, clear unlined skin, narrower waist than hips, big eyes, small features etc in women? Reproductive health. Which in women is more aligned with her youth. Its just biology. If women had the same fertility run as men, then Im quite sure grey hair etc would be an attractive feature in women too. For the same reasons, stability and hopeful wisdom of the years.
I was being sarcastic about men's wallets because men get hung up on the way women judge their salaries in the same way women get hung up on the way men judge their looks. The truth is we don't really care as long as he's not a scrounging bum who's too lazy to scratch his ass but some men think that all women are after is money
I agree. I would say that men get more hung up on the money front. It's not so much money but social status. The higher a man's social status the more women he will have access to/will get. Money is just one support of that. A starving artist type with a reputation will get more women than an accountant on a good salary all things being equal. Depends on the woman's age though. A 20 yr old is more likely to go for starving artist boy than a woman of 35. Interesting that she'll do that at her most fertile though.

You see this stuff at the extremes of attraction. Most couples are "rated" equally. A plain man who is wealthy/famous will get a "better" looking woman than an equally plain man who is not. A better looking woman has more options with men and has more chance of moving up the ladder socially than her plain friend.

Quite a few studies have shown this effect. One common one is where they get say 20 couples. Take their photos and get others to match the men and women. People are remarkably accurate in their matches. Which shows men and women select on the physical front people who match them in physical attraction. This is when the people are all of the same basic social strata. Where the results get skewed is when they extend this. Then you see plain men tend to have better looking partners. In these cases the guy is wealthy/higher "class"/socially higher.

We may like to think love etc is either in our control or fate etc, but its much more mechanical and hormonal.
