It could be set to auto-update Windows.

Mine does so at 3am also.

You might have reset the auto-update which wasn't previously engaged.

I only know cause it happened me after a system restore on my Vaio.

3am one morning it played Spideman The Movie Trailer full blast.

It came with it as a video Screensaver apparently.

Scared the bejaysus out of me one night anyway.

I thought the locals were climbing in the window :D

Never leave the screen open on your laptop at night-time - it can wake up at 3am, take some snaps using the inbuilt cam and post them on boards

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.
