Just wanted to see how my fellow NUIG'ers are doing as we finish up the 2nd semester and face into the dreaded exam time!!!

    Myself-
Not doing too badly, had last lecture yesterday and am taking the weekend off before locking the door of my bedroom on Monday morning and going on a marathon 5 week study session. Sem 1 exams went well but ya never know until you sit down to the actual paper.
Have almost half of the course covered already (2nd science) so hope to be okay!

So what's the story with ye????
Have ye left a lot to do or will the Sem 1 results be your saviour or downfall?:)

    EDIT:

Thought it might be a handy place to post every so often during the coming weeks to bitch, moan, get advice from others in the same boat:D

I only had one Sem 1 exam and I failed it. :pac:

Last lecture today, have just about three weeks to study. Planning to take a couple of days to relax (ha) over Easter and then it's head down time.

I'm struggling a lot over subject choices for second year and to be honest that's worrying me more than exams are. The one subject I sailed through in the exams last semester is probably going to be the toughest this semester. Oh how things change!

I assume there are going to be study rooms available (as in aside from the reading room and library) during the next few weeks? Found them great last time.

i've got all my exams this semester. only had 3 class tests at christmas.
didn't bring home any books (too heavy), so going to have to wait until the study week (19th april) to get them.
Thank god for continuous assessment :D

i'm in the same boat for 2nd year subject choices. why do they make it so confusing to make up 10 combinations? what course are you, WesternNight? Me science!

I remember trying to pick my 2nd year science subjects last year....
Was a bloody nightmare trying to get thru the subject choice without any subjects clashing.

What subjects are you thinking of going with Whiteman19??

there's so many combos to pick. i'm torn between physics, maths, maths physics(known as applied maths now) - (combo 1, 20 credits each) and doing german (10 credits) along with numerical analysis (10 creds) instead of maths physics. (combo 2). for the final five combos, i've put down combos that i don't really care about.

i'm doing chem, physics, maths, applied maths now and defo giving up chem. i was at this advisory session yesterday but it wasn't really helpful. i'm not sure about maths physics (i like it) but i sorta want to do german as well
and if i want to do physics in 4th year, i have to do maths or applied maths in 2nd year (which isn't a problem cos i was going to do one of them anyway)

and on top of that, i've got 6 exams to study for, along with two practical exams, that i don't even know when are on yet. :( hopefully they'll be on the week of the 10th may, my last written exam is on that monday

sorry if this post seems a bit confusing. it's just..... subject choices, exams :confused:
too much to think about. brain shutdown in 5,4,3,2,... BOOM! ;)

Ist year science is a tough lot of exams alright.
Would be sooo much easier if the year was broken up exam wise. I had two maths exams last year on Apr 24th, tough going. 6 hours maths on the trot, not too bad if ya like maths but horrible if youre like me and hate them!!
The physics and chem lab exams last year were on for me on the 11th and 13th.

Don't worry Whiteman, 2nd year is an awful lot easier exam wise;)

I don't know WesternNight, I'm only an undergrad myself mature one of 35) and nearly had a breakdown in the library last week. The yapping was just constant in there!!!!!
I eventually gave up and left. Easier to study at home with 4 kids than in the library with 500+:D

At least I can plonk the kids in front of the telly and threaten them with punishment if they carry on!!!!!! Only joking;), kinda

Oh I know. That's why I only ever study in the near-deserted study rooms before exams. The library is crazy.

Speaking of - is there anywhere I can check to see which rooms will be designated study rooms in the next few weeks? I assume there will be some.

I'm not sure where you could check that out but last year before xmas exams I just went up into the towers and went into any empty rooms where there were no lectures goin' on and studied away.....

Can't be many lectures goin' on so just check out the smaller rooms and help yourself I would say:)

In a quandry, Should I not take the tablets and try to commence all the writing I have to do on Monday for question answer prep or should I take the tablets and hope to hell they don't make me too doped up???

I promised myself I would spend the day outside as well but have found myself scouring over the Soccer forum.......too much happening with Man City at the mo....hard to drag myself away:D

I need to actually do some study tomorrow. I've been saying "tomorrow" for the last week now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,239 ✭✭✭KittyeeTrix

That's it, spent the afternoon yeaterday in the sun and on boards.
Gonna prepare exam answers now till 2 and then have an hour in the sun till 3 and then work again till 7.
    That's the plan anyhow...

I absolutely hate exams and college. So glad that this will be my last set of exams (I'm in final year).

Haven't actually done any study yet, have being doing assignments since lectures finished/my FYP was handed up. Hopefully get the last of my assignments done today and then I can move on to study tomorrow.

No-one ever does. It's even easier to get distracted when all your notes are on the computer because then you just end up going on boards or youtube.

i've decided to leave everything til next week. don't want to do anything when it's nice outside. :P

i've just found out that my physics lab exam is on 25th May, 2 weeks after my last written exam. god i wish it was earlier. oh well, plenty of time to study for it, at least  (like that's going to happen :P)

but after chem tomorrow, a break for a week til physics.
should really be studying chemistry now, seeing as how i spent all weekend in the library, watching TV on my laptop.

i'm sure i'll be able to spoof chem.....

Have a Computer Security and Forensic Computing exam on Thursay. Interesting enough subject but we don't have any relevant past exam papers to work off. I always feel more uneasy than usual before an exam if I haven't worked through a past exam paper or two. :(

    Same as that......
I have to prepare each and every Q for the past 5 years of exam papers!!!

    how's everyone doing this week?
physics exam tomorrow, should be okay. could do great if i didn't spend the weekend watching brothers and sisters :o:D
another exam on thursday and monday (both app maths). should be okay. then i'm finished all my written exams. :)

    how about ye?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,239 ✭✭✭KittyeeTrix

I have my first exam on Wednesday (zoology), another on Friday (botany) and then Microbiology the following Thursday......

Everything prepared apart from a little Botany and Microbiology, just have to sit back now and run thru it all to get it into my head. It's usually not a problem for me so should be okay!!!

good luck to the rest of ye as well, nite

2 more to go for me, and then 2 practicals, but not finished until the 25th :(

but at least i won't have to pay rent, i'll leech off my brother and stay at his place for the nights before the practicals :D:P:D

It was tight enough on tome though.I noticed only 2 or 3 left early.not like biology where about 80% of the class had left early.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,239 ✭✭✭KittyeeTrix

Had my zoology exam earlier today....
I feel it went good but definitely not too happy with one of my questions. There is just too little time to answer 5 questions on such a text heavy topic!!:(
There should be at least an other half an hour or just 4 questions to answer.

Hitting the books and notes now for Botany on Friday:)

What's the story with the rest of ye???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,110 ✭✭✭KevR

Had a 'Real Time Systems' exam this morning. I'm pretty happy with how it went.

    3 more exams to go!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,239 ✭✭✭KittyeeTrix

Oh my god, an hour and a half after posting that I was goin' to hit the books I'm still here looking at boards....Nooooooo:(

Logging off now for real this time!!!

Yeah, I only finished with 5 minutes to spare. The exam was considerably harder than previous years, particularly Section C... Seems like the Physics department were trying to compensate for about 95% of the formulae being in the log tables for the first time. I was forced to do two questions on Electricity because Sound and Light didn't come up (for the first time in years, it seems).

i though section C was my best section altogether but i've done physics for LC so i understand it a bit easier. most of that photoelectric effect question was LC knowledge ;)
screwed up that question about circular motion. confused it with something from app maths

i see you're still logged in fluffly :P

spent the day studying with a friend in the library for app maths.

need to look over rigid body motion this evening, and i HATE simple harmonic motion, i just keep going round in circles (no pun intended) but i think i've enough questions to get by on :D

just finished watching this week's lost ...brilliant...now to watch the new V and the good wife :D
screw studying for app maths at 2.30 tomorrow
