When is "Late" - too late for you?

Was in bed last night and the phone rang at 11.45.
A muppet rang me at that time wanting to know "How do I get my email?"
Now at that time of the night, I expect such late calls to be about accidents, deaths or other emergencies.
Am I fair in expecting that its too feckin' late to be ringing about silly stuff that can wait till the next day?

What time is "late" - too late to be ringing or calling with the rest of forum?

Probably say about 10.30pm myself, unless it was an emergency....

Have kids.... golden rule. No ringing the door bell past nine. No phone calls after 10. Text messages 11.

    Emergencies ring her brother....

If it's work related then anytime after 6 is too late. If it's one of my idiot sisters after infecting her laptop with stupid Facebook Apps again then I guess i'll answer anytime but one day i'll start charging the cnuts!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,130 ✭✭✭✭Kiera

It really depends. If its work related then anytime after 5.30 is too late. If its family/loved one then its never "too late". In saying that, i put my phone on silent when going to bed :)

After 9pm I do not ring anyone unless they send a text message or let me know online that they are still awake.

Some nights I am in bed by 9.30 and I have had people ringing me for stupid reasons. It is very inconsiderate. Most people seem to think that because they are awake then everyone else is too.

Depends. My friends know my general schedule and are better off ringing me at 1 in the morning than 9 in the morning ;)

I'd never ring someone before 12 pm or after 10 pm unless it was prearranged (ie I was meeting up with them). If I wanted to contact someone outside those times who I thought might be up, I'd send a text.

I would say after 23:30 is too late.

I got a house phone (have the phone line for ADSL anyway..) for emergencies, and just turn my mobile off when it's too late.

    I don't have a too late.

I do, however, have a too early and if I'm not in college that's any time before noon

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

As long as my phone is on, it's not too late to ring me. I always turn it off when I go to bed though, so don't have to worry about annoying phone calls!

As for me ringing people...it depends on the person. Some of my friends stay up really late on week nights and I know I can ring them anytime.

Past 10 is late for phone calls from the auld fella asking me to explain for the umpteenth time how to reset his screen resolution after making a balls of it through "messing around"

It's never too late for a booty call. :D

I'd say after 10. Well in the summer it is still bright between 9-10 so I would hardly call that late. If someone called me after 11.30 about their emails, I would tell them to feck off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,479 ✭✭✭Doop

I dont really have one i guess, I do have a problem that I will always aanswer the phone regardless of what time it is, but I do get to hear funny stories of what the latest crazy situation mates find themselves in.

Regular crap if its after 11 dont bother

There's no such thing AS late for me. Basically if I'm awake then I'm on. However, Once I sleep I really sleep and no phone is waking up me up anyway so ring all you like. Similarily I have no compunction to answer a ringing phone so if I'm awake and in bed and I hear the phone ringing then I'm not getting up to answer it.

Used to go with a girl who wouldn't accept phonecalls after 10pm and the best part was she wouldn't allow TEXT-messages after this time either, in case "the bipping of the phone might wake her up". She was a lot of work. Got rid of her pretty quick I'm glad to say.

  • Well different people have different schedules but I think the general 'too late' time is after 10pm, depending on who it is you're calling. I only used to get home from work at 10.30, so I'd text my boyfriend and a few of my late working friends then, but I realised most people were getting ready for bed at that hour. I don't usually text after 9 or so, unless it's really important or I'm meant to be meeting up with them.

I hate calls early in the morning. It's annoying

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,845 ✭✭✭Jet Black

After 3am on non work days would be too late. Work days after 9pm. I normally get up at 4am for work and dont get home until 6pm. I cant turn my phone off either because of work so could be called or text at 1am on a work day.

All of you foolish people who seem to have work ringing you after hours..
Verrrrry few people in my office have my number.. And they know not to use it except if it's an emergency...
And were talking a, something blew up type of emergency.

I don't really have a too late for my family and friends.
My phone is always on 24/7 and never on silent.
I get the odd drunken 3am midweek phone call from one of my currently unemployed mates, but it's rare.

I wouldn't really bat an eyelid at anyone ringing me up untill 1am during the week.
I'm normally up till then anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,996 ✭✭✭✭billymitchell

I dont think its ever too late to ring me, but I do have time when I consider it too late to be bothered answering.
Work about 8pm weekdays, except Friday.
Friends would depend on the day, but I would say 11 weekdays, weekends doesnt matter
Family can ring anytime. If they are ringing late, i know its important!!

I don't have a "too late". Wouldn't really mind someone ringing me at anytime. I do put my phone on silent when I go to sleep though, so good luck to them!

I'm very rarely in bed before 1 or 2am so that'd be my cutoff for friends. Mind you if work rang me at that our I'd be hunting heads with pitchforks. Won't take a work call after the shops close (9pm) and prefer texts if I'm on a day off, at least I can get around to them in my own time.

Oh, and I hate being drunk dialed! Got a phone call at 4am a while back from a bunch of mates stuck on the hard shoulder of the M1 with a puncture not far from my house, asking me to come down and help. Now the thought of these guys on the side of a motorway in the pitch black, 4 out of 5 of them drunk silly, I reckoned an extra pair of hazards might stop them getting flattened so up I got, changed, got a torch and a hi-vis out of the boot, had just turned the key in the ignition and then got a call to say they'd fixed it.

    Pain in the ****ing hole.

    10.30

    With a few exceptions :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,949 ✭✭✭✭IvyTheTerrible

    5.30 for work calls.

9 to 10 for personal/family calls. Anything later than that (or also very early in the morning) makes me seriously panic.

Never get annoyin late night calls cause people know I don't go out durin the week except for pints.. And i'm not arsed meetin people on a big night out if i'm havin a quiet one.
Anytime is good at the weekend. Text or call before 12 during the week. I'll answer family at any time.

I gritted my teeth, stayed civil (it was hard) and told the person to ring back tomorrow.
Bloody call woke the wife and myself. It nearly woke our four kids.

Some people have no consideration or just feckin' stupid!

    Never too late for myself.

If someone is in need of help then I'll help them, even if it is stupid. I'm sure I've annoyed people in the past wanting something done.

I don't care about being woken up, usually can drift off pretty quickly after if I stay in a semi-sleep state and if I seen the clock I wouldn't think "Aw no, work in 3 hours", I'd think "Woo, another 3 hours kip before work!".

    It's all about perspective.

In saying that: If I had kids then things like ringing the doorbell & waking them up would p1ss me right off, but I don't so it doesn't concern me. Also I don't contact people at ungodly hours myself.

:p True! I answer my mobile anytime, but ever since I was a child, my mum always said after 9 was that bit too late, guess it stuck, even at 21 ha. Although, thinking about it, doubt my mates would mind if I rang the house after 9.

I called my mates house to see if he was coming online at about 3am. His mother answered and asked why I wasn't in bed. Simple answer was since I'm unemployed I don't even know what time it is!

It doesn't matter to me, as I switch my phone off when going to sleep and I don't have a landline.

My phone auto silences itself after 11.30 on week nights when I'm in my house. Outside of that I'm good to go at any time.

    I ended that call.

personal calls or texts are fine anytime .. if its someone who has broken their internetz and wants to know what to do, anytime after 9 is off limits ...

As my mobile is a work one I usually turn it off after 6pm. I would consider 9pm the latest I'd put up with on the landline for marketing calls etc. Family and friends don't really call after 9 unless it's an emergancy.

    .

We all need each others numbers at work and my boss asked for my one straight away. Almost never get work calls but we need to be contactable especially when we are on holidays rather than in the evenings. We are all running our own experiments which sometimes are linked, everyone knows their own setup so if there is a problem getting onto a person who is away may be necessary otherwise a lot of time could be lost.

For evening's, I wouldn't mind a work call up to 9 or 10pm as I know people may still be working as we do work quite late at times.

Friends or family no later than 12 I suppose, unless their drunk. Id often get a call around 11pm but not usually any later.
