    Review of it here http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/index.cfm?reviewid=1307

seems to have been launched in mid to late 2007. it does not mention about updating the maps for new roads would be worth finding out if it's possible if it is it seems good value for 47 euro

Edit: just saw here http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews230009.html that it cant be updated without sending it back

I had one of those and it worked great.

As usual with Sat Navs finding Irish place names could be tricky. Worth it if the maps were up to date but not otherwise by the sound of it.

Mine arrived from Sendit this morning and I'm very pleased with it.

It looks brand spanking new with no signs of use at all. I just spent a few hours playing with it and got Tomtom and Igo working on it also. I'll probably stick with Igo as its the best of all the nav apps IMHO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,776 ✭✭✭podge3

Hmmm...I ordered another one of these and the order was cancelled

I got the following email from them:

"Thank you for placing your order with us. I am sorry there seems to be a problem on your account. We are unable to ship Binatone Carrera Widescreen X430UK Sat Nav [Sat Nav] outside of the UK therefore your order has been cancelled. No money has been taken from your card. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused"

The only difference between my first order and the cancelled second one is that I used € pricing on the second. I have just re-ordered again with £ pricing so hopefully it will go through.

Actually it looks like neither - maybe more like the official pic, though.

The screen is "flatter" and not rounded on the edge like those pics. I think the SD card is on the other side also.

I'll put up a pic later on.

My second unit has been dispatched :D. So the lesson here is to order in £.

also is Igo8 working fine on this one ? and is it easy to install ?
Yep, Igo8 and Igo Amigo are both working fine. No problems with the installations.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,776 ✭✭✭podge3

Now I know why the unit I have doesn't look like the pics of the X430 - its because its a B430 . Can't believe I didn't notice last night while I was playing with it.

I don't really know what the differences (if any) are. I check it out more later on but I just wanted to warn anyone who was thinking of buying.

Is it possible to install USA maps on this?
Any links for the best way to go about installing igo and US maps would be great. Cheers:D

So, are they all B430's rather than X430's for those who've received them?

Thinking of getting this. Even if it's crap, it won't be such a big loss of money.

But it'd be nice to know if it's crap beforehand. :)

There should be no reason why USA wouldn't work so long as the SD card is big enough.

Google "x430 Igo" for instructions on how to install Igo. GPSunderground is probably the best source of info.

So I can just stick the latest version of Tomtom on this and update when required correct? Seems like good value alright...

Correct. I have tried Igo8, Igo Amigo and Tomtom on an SD card and they all work.

I also deleted the original software on the unit itself and installed Amigo. Works fine and no SD card required.

One complaint I have with the device is that its very slow to get a satellite lock.

anyone else got this satnav delivered ? mine shipped on 08/04/10 , still no news :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,262 ✭✭✭Vertakill

Mine 'despatched' (SendIt's spelling, not mine) on the 9th so I'm expecting it anyday now.

I don't have the email I got confirming my order though and I'm not sure if there's a method of tracking it from there.

I can log into the site and see my order but there's nothing to go by other than the 'despatched' status - unless I'm missing something.

The A430 is now available in Maplin for £50.....

    Worse product for more money?

Is it just me or is it a bit of false advertising to be selling an X430 for whatever money, only to open up the box and find it's the inferior B430?

    Surely that can't be legal?

Edit: Actually, the A430 and the B430 seem nearly identical bar the physical dimensions (and Maplin's A430 isn't a refurb)

My second order is the same.

I'm thinking of returning both of mine (if the second ever arrives). IMHO the B430 is inferior to the X430. Unfortunately I'm finding Sendit impossible to contact.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,907 ✭✭✭✭Kristopherus

My order is showing as a B430 and dispatched on 9th. No sign of it yet. By the way I ordered in Euros and gave my postcode as IRE123 . May be of help to someone.

Out of curiosity why are you returning it/them?
    Any major issues?

The main reason is I find it very slow to get a satellite lock.

I am also really pi$$ed at Sendit. I sent them a message about the incorrect model number and got a reply 4 days ago saying they were "looking in to it". No further reply since and no response to further queries.

Cheers for the reply, how long are you talking sat lock delay, and is it decent once it actually has a lock?

Got mine delivered this morning (was shipped on 08/04/10)
It was B430 , but invoice says X430UK.

Looks nice, will do some test drives today :)

    looks like this
    585849?hei=400&wid=400

Not sure if this is a problem with my one in particular but...
Can't get windows to recognise it. Win7 64 flat out doesn't recognise it and

I've an XP Pro 32 that just gives the 'ding dong' usb connected/disconnected noise over and over.

Is there any windows drivers people are using in order to change maps and FW?

Edit: Ok, there's some updates on their website which supplies an updater that you install (uses ActiveSync). However, it didn't work on Win7 64 (even in compatibility mode + admin), only WinXP 32 in case anyone is trying this.

Edit: Works with Windows Mobile Device Center for Win7 32/64 without any issues!

    Got mine today, thanks OP.

Havent had a chance to charge it up to test it out yet though.

I saw people mentioning 'TomTom' and 'Amigo', I'm not really familiar with SatNav but would someone be able to explain exactly what these are?
I thought there were models of satnav but looks like it's software.

If it's software, can anyone recommend the best to put on this Satnav?

Sendit are a right shower of c*nts

They eventually responded after 10 days to my email about sending out the wrong item. The chap who replied said:

In reference to order number 11xxxxxxx, I have checked our system and can see that an order was placed for the B430 version and not the X430

I have emailed him back saying that the confirmation emails & dispatch emails show it was an X430 that was ordered & dispatched. Looks lie this will be my last order with Sendit.

The X430 has a rubberised design and external GPS/TMC antennae connections.

Look here for an X430 manual: http://binatonegps.com/gps/download/manual/X430II%20User%20Guide%20(Turbo%20Dog)%20-%2020080910.pdf
