David Haye vs John Ruiz

How do you guys see this one going? On paper Haye should win it pretty handily, he's bigger, stronger, faster and almost 10 years younger but we all know it's not that simple. Ruiz is a frustrating fighter and if he can get Haye sufficiently agitated, he might be able to test David's suspect chin and then the sh1t would truly hit the fan. That is an if however and Haye is still very much the favourite, I would be disappointed with anything less than a knockout win for Haye, I mean he's facing a 38 year old who in all honesty was never really a top tier fighter to begin with but then again(as far as I can remember anyway) Ruiz has only been KO'd once(by the KO machine David Tua) and that was way back in 1996

On a side note, Haye isn't exactly in the best shape of his life, here's a recent pic of himdavidhaye10-800_2433017.jpg

Compare that to this just before the Valuev fight

Still in better shape than pretty much all the other heavyweights bar the Klitschko's. Maybe it's a sign he's underestimating Ruiz, even though he should still win.

    How recent is the pic?
Because he was on Alan Carr: Chatty Man recently and he looked in a lot better shape than that.

I wouldn't pass any heed on a photo. In the first one he's undoubtedly tensing his abs, in the second he's caught at just the 'right' moment. Haye is always in good shape, I'd be surprised if he's not come fight night.

With regard to the fight, I disagree with you on two things. Haye is not bigger or stronger. He'll be aprox. 1 stone lighter against a career heavy. He'll be faster and hit harder, but when it comes to the in-fighting/clinching he'll be taught a thing or two by Ruiz.

Haye needs to keep this on the outside in the same way Roy Jones did, then he can outbox and probably hurt Ruiz, but Ruiz isn't a two-time belt holder for nothing. He's very smart in the ring and forces the opposition to fight his type of fight.

Could start an interesting fight that could end up getting very messy. Not as convinced as everyone else that this is an easy one for Haye.

Haye looks in great shape. The weigh in was just on SSN. Looking very good. He's 4 pounds heavier than the Valuev fight.

    correction. he's 3 pounds heavier :p

but its very true that he's in incredibly great shape and he seems very confident of his ability of knocking ruiz out but with ruiz seeming to be in top shape its lining up to be a huge brawl tomorrow night.

Ruiz is really awkward, so I can't see this fight flowing very well as a spectacle but I'm excited none the less...

Never correct someone unless you're right :p
He's actually 5 lbs heavier at 222 lbs, compared to 217 for Valuev(and also Bonin) his previous heaviest.

Also, just saw the weigh-in, when Haye tenses everything he looks in unreal shape. Great seeing a Heavyweight in such good shape.

In fairness the kliitchkos are in pretty good shape too - especially Wladamir

He looks in good shape but i have a feeling he might find this a harder fight when hes in the ring.

Seems to be doin a lot of media stuff prior to a big fight...I'd like to see him stay champ for a while but i hope he doesnt take his eye off the task in hand.

Hes even brining the belt around at the man city the afternoon of the fight...maybe thats just his style

You can only imagine that the extra work would affect him but when you look at the amount of additional things pacquaio gets involved in around his fights you'd have to think Haye should be ok. I'd ignore the photo above, could be taken after a big dinner months ago, he's in great shape at the weigh in as always
I havn't voted in this poll, to hard to call between late stopage by Haye or a UD in my mind

Haye's been very quiet in the lead up to this, I think he wants to make his impressions in the ring.

Ruiz will be troubled by the speed, and with the power behind it he'll get taken out eventually.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,724 ✭✭✭Vanbis

I dont think this will be anything spectacular but i expect Haye to win this and have backed him to win it in the 3rd round @ 12/1.

Haye will have to much speed and power for Ruiz, slightly heaver then his last fight at weigh in. I think Ruiz will try and bring him to 12 rounds and hope for a points decision but Haye is looking super confident so i expect him to win by TKO, be surprised if it goes pass the 7th round.

Haye has most of the advantages in this fight. I'm thinking he might blow Ruiz out. Haye inside 3.

Brilliant from Groves, all over Adamu.

Don't have a clue, it was just posted on another forum and I said I'd pass it on.

More will probably pop up over the next few hours anyway.

Groves won, referee stopped in 6th round, could be slightly controversial as Adamu was on his feet, not during a count. Completely one-sided fight, though.

Stream is a bit laggy alright, this normally happens with a big fight. people contantly connecting to it normally has this effect. It should be grand once the fight starts. looking forward to this one.
There hasn't been that many big boxing nights this year. The world needs another Tyson !!
