Fat guys and weights?

Anyone else notice in their gym a proliferation of fat guys who do nothing but weights? Fair enough they have massive arms, legs and shoulders but they are still fat, very fat. When will it dawn on these people to put down the barbell and get on the treadmill or cross trainer?

just to give an alternative perspective on this, there are also a lot of fat people spending hours on stationary bikes while reading books and walking at ridiculously slow pace on the treadmill... of course there are plenty of people in the weights area who are not fat .. bit of a generalisation tbh

What would we do without the Internet - seriously, think about how much less you would laugh if the internet didn't exist.

Why don't you ask them to their faces? Is it because of their massive arms, legs and shoulders?

Maybe they do cardio, but less of it than weights?

I'm a fat bastard, and when I'm in the gym most of my time is spent with weight orientated activities. Cardio leaves me knackered, fast. So I spend a little time at cardio, off to the weights, back for a little more cardio, rinse, repeat, etc.

Don't see how their routine is your issue to be honest.

Being fat is awesome, that's why they don't do cardio.

These guys aren't new to the gym, they go a lot so it's not like their newbies. They are lifting massive weights all the time but are still fat, I don't see the point.

Agree with Corkcomp though plenty of people on the treadmill going at a snails pace with their mags aswell who could do with re-assessing.

Blackhorse Slim, yes, there are some of them could snap me in half!!

KKV, it's impossible to go to the gym and not cast aspirations on others and what their doing, or for me anyway! I'm sure people look at what I'm doing aswell and think wtf is he at.

They might end up fatter if they did, i.e. if they only were to go to the gym for 3x40min sessions a week. Weights are excellent for fat loss. Perhaps they are fond of their food too much and are at a happy medium, if they were not lifting they would no doubt be far fatter, not to mention far less fit to do daily tasks.

I don't see the point in bulk and bulk when you are fat. Surely it makes more sense to do some carido to become more lean?

Maybe they like to do cardio outside - treadmills and cross trainers are pretty lame

My mate who I weight train with is a rugby player who can lift insane amounts. He looks like a fat guy most of the time but he's actually well built.

I reckon these "fat guys" you see are in great shape with lots of strength but don't want to lose strength by losing fat.

Makes more sense in terms of what exactly?

    How they look?
    Their health?
    Their training goals?

If they're as fat as you say then it isn't for lack of cardio.

In terms of how they look and their health.

I'd actually be interested to know their training goals and what they hope to achieve. Surely it would be far healthier to shed some of the fat by doing some cardio.

    Strength maybe...

I'm sure if you ask one of them why they're fat and what their goals are they'll give you an answer/ dumbell to the head... Then they can get their cardio in by chasing you around the gym!

Weights can be used for cardio exercise as well can't they?

Trevor there's many thing in life that are none of my ****ing business as you so eloquently put it, but it doesn't stop me being interested anyway!!

That's one way to get some cardio out of them although I can't see it being very benficial to my head or my health!!! :D
