Resistance Bands

    Hi,

I'm heading away travelling for 6 months in two weeks time. I am considering buying resistance bands to at least keep some form of exercise going while on the road.

So far all suggestions I've seen have been for internet shopping. Given that I'm leaving in 2 weeks it's probably too tight a time line to have them before I leave. Can any of you suggest physical shops that might stock resistance bands? Preferably in Galway, Belfast or maybe Dublin.

    Cheers.

Also check out the bigger Tescos, and TK Maxx. Possibly Argus too.

    Hi There

As you are leaving in two weeks this may not be much use to you. However I picked up these a while back http://www.tobands.com/ and although they come from the US, I had them within about 10 days. However you would be taking a chance ordering them so close to your departure. I will say though they are really good quality and can give a decent workout when you can't make the gym.

Also, something that I seen in one of Transforms videos which I also picked up was a TRX suspension system. See http://www.fitnessanywhere.com/ This is a really good piece of equipment and totally portable. I would chose my TRX over my resistance bands every time if I was on the road.

My bands now get used mostly for prehab/rehab work.

    Just something else to consider.

Also don't forget that you can keep in excellent shape with a good routine of body weight exercises with little or no equipment. So don't let the fact that you are traveling be a cause to lose your current fitness and conditioning.

    Best Regards,

    M

Gold = Max heavy? A general question, how do you determine which set you should get, i.e. light, medium, heavy, super heavy, etc.? How do these convert to free weights and kgs?

Saw these on the argos site http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/0703620/Trail/searchtext%3ERESISTANCE+BAND.htm . Is there much difference between these cord like ones or the rubber elastic band shaped ones?

Yeah, for sure. I intend on doing lots of body weight exercises on the road, but thought exercise bands would be a good compliment to them.

i have used all types of bands and always go for the gold = max band as they do not snap very easily and all the ones sold in tescos or argos are wayyyy to light.

realistically body weight exercies and a pull up bar should sort you for almost everything.

    Here you go
    http://www.thera-band.com/faqs_healthcare.php#faq_22

For training, defintely go for the gold band, the others are more for physio/rehab work IMO.

If I was going travelling and wanted to bring some small light items of exercise equipment I would also bring a captains of crush and an evil wheel.

personally i never bring more than just a band & skipping rope and then i find a local gym

get really familiar with body weight movements and you are never short of workout ideas as you throw in lots of varied metcons
