Suicide Bombings @ Moscow's Metro Stations

Two Female Suicide Bombers have attacked Moscow's Metro this morning:
Two explosions ripped through the busy Moscow metro on Monday morning during rush hour

Though it has yet to be confirmed, security sources said early indications suggested suicide bombers from the volatile North Caucasus region that includes Chechnya were to blame.

If that is right, it would be the first time since 2004 that they have struck the Moscow metro.

Prosecutors opened a criminal case immediately, saying they would be working on the basis that the explosions were the work of terrorists.

Rrrright, looking at my post I didn't make much sense (as per usual). I was pondering, seeing that it's such a tragic event why you thanked it. (My macabre mind). And me seconding your response of condolences.

I haven't had any caffeine yet.

Thats a new technique which they developed in Iraq. A couple of blasts in quick succession to create confusion, the emergency services rush in to aid the injured. Then a 3rd bomb goes off in an attempt to kill many more people and to put the system under more pressure. Its a petty and evil tactic.

The Russian Ministry of the Interior are now refuting claims of a 3rd bomb blast at Station Mira.

A lot of train stations were built by Stalin during the communist era.
The train was seen as a way of spreading the communist message to the people, which is probably the main reason he pumped money into it.
He got artists to create murals etc in the train stations that gave the message of the communist ideology of the time.

Shame we never got communism. Then we might have a decent transport system. Maybe a decent health service too. Any ex-communist country I have been to the health care made irelands look medieval.

Like the Shahidkas? Apprently most of them are sold or shanghaied into service and have a bomb strapped to them which is detonated remotely.

...that, and the remarkably brutal regime they've had under the Russians for the last decade and a half or so. They dissappear about one a day, so its said, which - out of a population of Chechenya thats only around a million - is a fair number. As the Russians have become more extreme, so have they. Enter the usual "Jihadist" headers to take advantage and lend "support".....

Er, most of the victims of that massacre died precisely because of Russian strong arm tactics.

My condolences to the victims of Russian occupation of Chechnya.

They should just give these people their country back ffs. I've no respect for the bombers but Russia can't claim to be the good guys either if they're holding onto someone else's country in the 1st place.

Now I'm no expert on this issue but how difficult is it to effectively combat a well organised and well equipped terrorist organisation.

    Who exactly is responsible?

Without drastically culling the freedoms and rights of your own citizens, practically impossible. Which is kind of the point.

It read that the women are more than happy to use themselves as human bombs, because Russian soldiers raped the women during the war.

I don't think so considering most of the victims were killed in the gymnasium. The majority of theories as to what happened revolved around poorly rigged explosives set by the hostage takers accidentally detonating or the
hostage takers setting off explosives. Additionally at the time of the blasts one third of the proposed assault force of 400 men were 18 miles to the south practicing at a similar building.I think the Russians performed as best as they could considering the circumstances.

Have you ever tried a russian pizza or are you just assuming they're crap because they sound crap?

You may not have realised, but this is the internet, this is serious business. If you say "russian pizza is crap" then 100s of people will assume you're telling the truth and then as a result will never try what could have been an amazing russian pizza (maybe even russian pizza could have become the next big thing had it not been for you).

Next time think of the consequences of what you say .

They did it at Warrenpoint, killing 18 soldiers, the same day Mountbatten was killed.

Well I think England still have the better kill/death ratio by about 20,000/1 .

Now I'm waiting for the 'quit living in the past' and 'that was ages ago' replies to which I ask. How many years does it take for murder to matter less?

I'm in no way defending the tactics of the bombers in moscow and elsewhere but when you put in a corner with no other option then desperate times lead to desperate measures. Without 'terrorism' as it was labelled by England at the time we'd still be under English rule.

Time does not heal all wounds and it innocent lives will always be lost for peace to take hold. For only by the shear(sp?) disgust and contempt for acts of terror will the world waken up to atrocites(sp?) that the 'smaller' nations suffer.

    [/turns of phrase]

Two More Suicide Bombings in Russia this morning:
Nine killed by twin bombings in Russia's Dagestan

Kizlyar is situated close to Dagestan's border with Chechnya

At least nine people, including a top regional police official, have been killed by two bombs in Russia's restive North Caucasus republic of Dagestan.

A car bomb was detonated at about 0830 (0430 GMT) outside the offices of the local interior ministry and the FSB security agency in the town of Kizlyar.

The second bomb went off about 35 minutes later on the same street.
Russia is on alert after double suicide bombings on the Moscow Metro on Monday morning, which killed 39 people.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has called on security forces to "scrape from the sewers" those responsible. Investigators say they believe the bombers were linked to militants operating in the North Caucasus.

Last month, Chechen rebel leader Doku Umarov threatened that "the zone of military operations will be extended to the territory of Russia... the war is coming to their cities".
