This is the system, looks a step up in class from the lidl set-up and quite a bit cheaper than the usual sat suppiers HD products.

How easy is this to set up.... Will it work anywhere in Ireland??? Moving into a new house and think this might be just what I am looking for.... Will you get a HD signal, as good as sky offer??? What channels can you get from it too.

I'm afraid not as we would not be able to warranty the whole set up. We do however fit dishes and CAI approved cabling on their own, problem with that is you would end up with a spare dish.

bought 1 of these in b and q 2 weeks ago , diconnected the sat in from my sky box and powered up , now have 292 channels free to air , cancelled my subscription with sky, happy days:D

I bought and installed the SD version of this for my daughter. The fixings and attachments are pure s*it so I would advise getting good quality fixings. The LNB bracket is just painted (and not very well painted) steel, so if you chip any bits off you should cover them up or you'll have a rust problem. Be careful also tightening up any nuts and bolts as the plastic used is also poor quality.
That said the box itself performed well enough except I couldn't set the time, the manual said this was probably down to signal strength, which I think was bullsh*t as It was reading 65% signal / 73% quality. Good enough value for the money but not top quality and that's for sure.

Do you know if the receiver is available to buy on it's own? Already have a satellite dish.

Yes (barring any niche channels that may have ceased since that list was compiled).

World Cup in HD would be great! Does it not recieve ITV HD though? Only BBC HD in that list.

ITV HD is due to go live on Channel 119 (I think) on Freesat

Good question as ITV use a slightly different transmission standard for their HD service.

Homebase in Clondalkin have them (I didn't actually go and buy one, but they were sitting in a corner there). The B&Q over in Liffey Valley had them as well, but I don't remember what they were charging for them.

Nutgrove have 7 of them, they didn't have them on the floor because they thought the channel list was supposed to have RTE etc too, so they figured they would not work here.

Thats the red button function which only exists on official freesat receivers in the case of ITV HD. It can be tuned in on a free to air receiver though if supports the h.264 transmission type. It will also be available as a stand alone channel soon on the freesat platform.

I don't remember, sorry...I just happened to be walking through and noticed that both of them had displays up of HD FTA systems.

But this box is Free to Air isn't it? I read somewhere about PID number and can manually tune it. I just want to be sure as I'm only getting this for HD football and need to make sure it gets ITV HD.

Yes it is free to air and there is a question as to whether it will receive ITV HD or not so you need to check this out before you buy. You might also check out an official freesat box on amazon or elsewhere, if theres not much difference in price its the one to go for.

I rang the boxes Tech. Support, said it can recieve ITV HD. Also, the same offer is in B & Q and Tallaght have a few left.

I bought one of these yesterday in Nutgrove and set it up last night (simply attached the existing cables from my old Sky dish). It has both BBC HD and ITV HD - I attached to a HD TV via HDMI cable (supplied) and received both channels in all their High Def glory.

There is a link on the Ross website where you can download an update which automatically stores all the channels in the correct order. Save this to a usb stick, plug into back of receiver and it updates - easy.

Downsides are there is only "now and next" TV guide and no information about the content of the programmes. Recording can only be done through a separate usb device so no hard drive in the receiver. And in my case I am left with a brand new satellite dish that I do not need.:rolleyes:

I am presuming this will work on a normal TV not just HD ones the TV downstairs is your standard big fat tv the ones upstairs are HD plat screens.


If anyone is wondering they ahave them in Limerick only 2 or 3 left on display not sure if they ahve more but they are 125.99 ??
