My day today (what i Ate and drank)

I woke up at 7.45 for school. Went into school ate no snacks. At lunchtime I went up town and went to a fast food restaurant and i bought a chip butty with curry and cheese(butty sandwich) and drank a pint of milk. After I went to a shop and bought a large ice-cream cone with sprinkles. I arrived home and ate a salad sandwich (white bread, butter, salad cream, scallion onion,1 slice of ham, some cheese and lettuce) then I went to a challenge match(won 3 points). After the challenge match We went to this place where I Ate 2 ham sandwiches,1 biscuit,a can of coke, 2 bags of walkers cheese and onion, a cup of tea, refresher bar and 3 toffee sweets. When I came home I ate a salad sandwhich(same as above) and drank a can of coke. Btw the match was in roscommon i live in longford.

Yeah W.E anybody got any decent advise?

Yeah. Read the stickies at the top of this forum and the Nutrition & Diet forum.

There better people to do this but your sample diet is terrible.(Although its better then some days of mine...)

1)You skipped breakfast - Bad idea
2)Fast food resturant - Problem there
    3) Chip buttys? -Another problem.

    Ok. Im out.

Drop the white bread and sweets/crisps now. If you have to buy from a fast food place then something is going wrong. Make your own.

5-6 small meals a day each with a lean protein.

    http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

This will tell you about how many calories a days you should be eating for your weight/height.

Commonly known as a ham and cheese sandwhich!

Seriously, calm down. Read all the threads at the top of the page on fitness and nutrition. Your transformation isn't going to happen over night.

Yeah W.E anybody got any decent advise?

You're not going to get any with the attitude in all fairness. Best way to go about it might be to just give the stickies a read through, they're well worth it, and then put up a post with any questions you might have.

C'mon, lay off the kid. He's only 16 and making an effort.

That said though, you should be able to see yourself that big changes are needed. A good diet is based on a good healthy balance of foods, eaten regularly and avoiding junk.

If you check through the stickies you will see a lot about diet. Basically avoid most of what you seem to be eating - chips, white bread, refined carbs, crisps etc. Poor nutritional value and not gonna help you perform well in sports. Replace it with whole carbs like brown bread, brown pasta, rice etc before matches, training etc. Start the day with a good breakfast like porridge. For lunch, your probably going to have to bring in your own rather than eating all that junk.

If you are looking for some help here, you will have to give people something more to work with. That diet you posted was appalling, so you've big changes to make there.

Otherwise its hard to know what more to say without knowing your current stats, training routine, level of fitness and some more specific and maybe realistic goals.

As for being the best on the team, that will take a lot more than diet. Thats hard work on the training pitch. It won't be an overnight thing, and will take a lot of dedication. To be honest, it may not happen at all.

Set some more realistic goals. What position are you? What are the biggest weaknesses in your game? What are your strengths. Once you have identified your weaknesses or areas you need to work on, you can set goals based on that and work towards it.

To be fair to Schoolboy082, he lives in Longford and probably has the exact same diet as everyone else his age.

Dude, in a nutshell everything you thought was ok to eat probably isn't.

Don't skip breakfast - eat porridge and/or eggs. Young active lads like yourself can get away with eating a reasonable amount of carbs.
Coke, crisps, cakes, ice cream should be a rare treat. That means once a month. Not one a week.
A chicken fillet baguette is about as healthy as a pizza or a snack box.
    Don't think otherwise.
Bring your own lunch to school. I'm guessing like many crap schools in this country you don't have canteen facilities so bring some wholegrain bread with lean meat and salad. Only use a light spread of salad cream/mayo if you really need to.

You say you are 13 stone and 15/16yo. In your other thread you said you are 5'9''. That sounds like you could be overweight to me to be honest unless you are carrying some decent muscle.
Do you know what your bodyfat percentage is?
Do you do any weight training?

You might think all this is drastic but you said you wanted to be the best on your team. Then that will require you to eat and train differently than everyone else.

Unless it's the €2 weekly madness deal in Londis. Then you get 3/day.

Wake up twenty minutes earlier then.

You know, for any of this to work you actually have to do something.

Wake up twenty minutes early and boil a few eggs and have some wholemeal bread or oats with it. That'll set you up for the day.

If you only have 20 mins to get ready obviously you need to get up earlier.
check out bodybuilding.com everything you need to know about your diet/training can be found here.

    I do!

That's fair enough, but I'm getting the impression that he just likes the idea of getting fitter/better at gaa but doesn't want to put the effort in.
    EXACTLY realistic

Waking up 20 minutes earlier is definitely realistic.

You just need to learn the basics of diet and make gradual changes by implementing healthy foods that compliment your training.

That along with regular training of course.

    20 mins earlier no bother!
only problem is dont eat porridge its horrible and eggs before school nah i'd be backfiring all day what about crunchy nut or something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,368 ✭✭✭cc87

Man i know your only 16 and like but you said yourself you want to get fitter and stronger yet you dismiss advice your given because of little things like not having time or because you might fart???. Getting fit isnt easy, it wont happen by intention alone.

I know lads who are on intercounty hurling teams, that got up to go training on their own at 7 before school when they were your age. Most people know someone who put in the effort others didnt and became better than average because of that fact.

Maybe you might be better off waiting a year or two until you actually want to make some changes because right now your looking for some miracle that doesnt exist i think.

But, i found the more i tried to train, the more i wanted to train. You just gotta find the right motivation!! Find someone or something that want to be like or accomplish. By someone i dont mean something like "i wanna be rooney!" i mean someone you play sports with day in day out, who you will openly acknowledge is better than you. Then put them up as someone to measure yourself against. Make it so everytime you train, your training to be able to beat them to the ball or knock them back on their ass!

You said in another thread you used be one of the best on your team. If i was you, id be pissed off that lads i used beat easily are now bigger stronger and faster than me, and id do all i could to change that fact.

Also, outside of you GAA training, what do you do? You said you do weights whats the program like?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,420 ✭✭✭Magic Eight Ball

chip butty with curry and cheese

Nice. When I was your age it was monster munch on a baguette. (with optional red sauce) :D

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,917 ✭✭✭Barry.Oglesby

Boy get off your lazy hoop and take some personal responsibility. If you want to be the best then you have to train, act and eat like the best. Don't want to fart because of eggs? So what? Have you got someone in your school who you want to impress more by farting less? Or do you want to impress your manager by running faster, jumping higher and being the first to every ball.

Don't want to have a decent breakfast? I train two 16 year olds who do their own shopping so they can be sure they get the right foods in for the week. The lads you'll see walking out at the business end of the Championship this summer worked hard and took responsibility for their own training, diet and fitness at a very young age to get to the level they're at. You need to do the same if you really want what you claim you want.

Now not all the advice on here is golden, in fact some of it is awful, but change your attitude, try everything and see what works and above all do something positive instead of dumping on what others are suggesting.

You'd get more thanks if you offered to sell him 'magic fitness beans' because that's all he seems to be interested in finding.
