Where can I watch Munster v Leinster?

Seeing as all the pubs in Dublin will be closed on Good Friday (unlike Limerick, lucky sods!), does anybody know where I will be able to watch the match in the Dublin area, as I don't have Setanta Sports at home?

Can't hotels open? I think they can serve alcohol with "a substantial meal" or something like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,967 ✭✭✭✭phog

Charlie Chawke said on RTE last night that he intends opening his pubs but will not be serving alcohol.

Or maybe with a "substantial" room

Any room would do, substantial or not. However, I think the licensing laws specifically mention a substantial meal, which is why I put it in quotes.

A spokesman for Munster rugby said it was their preference that the game be played on the Saturday of the Easter weekend.
Competition organisers Celtic Rugby scheduled the match for Good Friday following consultations with host broadcasters Setanta Sports. Management at Thomond Park Stadium will be able to sell alcohol to thirsty punters on the night of the game as the venue is covered by a National Stadiums' Licence.

Just pure sneaky by satanta. Knowing the pubs are closed attempt to extract 15 quid for at least one months subscription from rugby fans for setanta1

They wont be getting a cent from me anyway. The sooner these rights are back on free tv the better.

surely this is a gilt edged opportunity for rugby clubs to get some people in their doors?

The Indo and a few other papers have reported that Charlie will be opening all his pubs - looks like i'll be in the Orchard for this one then :)

I'm not sure but I think you can only be served alcohol in a hotel if you are a resident and not just having a meal.

No you can eat and have a drink with it but if you dont want to have a meal the residents bar is open for people staying there who just want a scoop.

You could ring around and find a restaurant and see if any are showing it. They can serve booze with dinner. You could also try some of the theaters to see if they are aswell.

Do golf clubs count as a private members club? I think the rule is that if its a private members club you can serve booze if you like.

well dont forget the OP is asking about a venue to watch the match which is relevant to many

availability of booze may just be a bonus

Well I mean if it counts as a private members club like some other places they might just charge you enterance and then serve.

Anyone know if its possible to watch the game on a pay per view basis, like just pay 5 or 10 euro to just watch the game? Doesnt seem to be any option for that on the setanta website?

EDIT: Actually seems it isnt possible
Are games/programmes available individually or on a pay per view basis?
We do not operate a pay per view system as we feel that our channels offer much greater value for sports fans. Setanta Sports 1 & Setanta Ireland are not available on an individual pay per view basis.
Pity considering they probably would have had loads of takers for people who wanted to have their own house party with friends and watch the game

it wasnt actually down to setanta. the date was up to the teams to decide and cuz munster wouldnt field a full team on the thursday a nd leinster on saturday, friday was the chosen day.

i wouldnt be surprised if munster had it on the friday cuz of the drink ban. like with the only place in the city with an open bar they are going to make a killing.

smart yet slightly underhanded move munster....

Where did you get this from? When do Celtic rugby let teams decide on their fixtures? When were Munster or Leinster asked what kind of team they'd field? Surely, Munster would have taken Thursday if offered to them as with leinster playing their last game on Saturday and Munster on Friday that would have given Munster an extra days turnaround over Leinster and give Munster another day to rest before their Q/F game against Northampton?

You can buy setanta 1 for the month for just 15 squids. I know of a few people doin this.

I dont think you can. Their min contract is 2 months(but they will forget to tell you this when you ring them)

Do you know of anyone who has actually done this?

Ye actually its not that simple. My bro called them today and they said its 15yoyos for the first month and if you wish to cancel the subscription then thatll set you back another 15. Its somethin like 50c a day thereafter if you want to keep it.

Yeah there will probably be streams but they will not be reliable especially with the amount of people with the same idea

I take it this won't be available to stream by Eircom subscribers as it is on Setanta 1?

Seems to be listed on the eircom site. http://liverugby.eircom.net/

Ah what the hell. Think the easiest thing to do is just hop on a train to Limerick 2moro and watch the match in one of the thousands of pubs down there. At least then you'll be able to have a pint of Arthur at the same time.
Save all the hassle. Anyone know how safe the trains are these days?

In all fairness, Setanta are no saints at all. Ask anyone who's ever tried to cancel with them, they've screwed over a significant number of people by continuing to draw money after cancelling service. They don't deserve even the slightest bit of sympathy these days.

+ 1000000, once the ML goes Free to air they can stick their service where the sun dont shine.

I'm no fan of Setanta but I can't see the problem with them putting the game on Setanta 1. They are not a charity.

Not a charity but surely part of their contract with Celtic Rugby would have been about broadening the viewing figures and increasing the fan base of rugby. Putting a prime game on Setanta 1 while the pubs are closed hardly helps and having Fred Cogley as a commentator doesn't help either. I'm sure the pubs that have to pay a bigger subscribtion than a residential customer cant be too happy either if thier potential customers might now take out a Setanta sub.

The live build up is on Setanta Ireland so they can squeeze a few more subscriptions in before kickoff. Maybe that's what you saw in the tv guide.

Looks like you can watch the stream live if you are an eircom broadband customer... From the times in the schedule http://setanta-video.eircom.net/eircom/public/Schedule.aspx it looks like it will be on! Time to hook the laptop up to the telly...

Did Celtic Rugby take Setanta's money?? Then Setanta can do as it pleases.... your anger there is misdirected.

    DeV.

Edit - whoops, misread another post!

I know for a fact that the decision doesn't come down to Setanta (or indeed BBC Wales/S4C/any broadcaster), apart from perhaps a change to the kick off time. Celtic Rugby and the provinces came to the decision, even if it does play into Setanta's hands.

Friend who has sky just rang them, 17 euros for the month, then another 17 for next month, you have to have it for a minimum of two months. Then they said (right at the end) there is a 15 euro connection fee!!!
    What a rip-off!!
