Splitting the French vote was the key! Hurrah!

Yeah, four French players, Bowe and Shane Williams being the top six did mean the French players suffered due to the success of the team....oh well :D

Harinordoquy was a bit robbed in fairness. I get the general impression that Irish people seem to enjoy taking online votes a bit too seriously! They always seem to win these things.

And then we complain about broadband penetration...

Sure you hardly need fibre optic cable to vote on online polls...

Congrats to Tommy but Imanol has been robbed.

Conrats to Bowe but a blind man could see Harinordoquy was Player of the Championship.

Congrats to Bowe. Joint top try scorer too.

well, when you see the results of the previous years you see that i might be always the same people voting :D

In fairness, Harinordoquy was playing off the back of a very good team. Bowe managed to excel despite playing for a mediocre team. A grander effort, in that regard.

The fact that BOD & Bowe seem to be very popular (Lions?) across the water would also help. I bet if Harinordoquy played his rugby in England, he would do a lot better.

Amazing though - BOD got 30% of the vote last year and Bowe got 50% this year.

By the way, I see Bowe is the chef in the next episode of The Restaurant on RTE next week.

Singing now cooking! Bowe is some chancer alright:D

    2010 - Tommy Bowe
    2009 – Brian O’Driscoll
    2008 – Shane Williams
    2007 – Brian O’Driscoll
    2006 – Brian O’Driscoll

 i mean i can tell you next year player of the tournament will the in form irish player.

If keith earles had been a nominee, he might have finished second :D.

Did you bother to vote? Did the majority of frence fans bother or did they just shrug their gallic shoulders and exclaim "nous sommes les meilleurs, nous ne devons pas voter" and then piss and moan when, like you, when a french man didn't win?

i'm not annoyed by the result and i didn't bother voting for this. i'm just saying that the result is funny and doesn't reflect the reality.

bowe is a good player and had a good 6 N.

You realise it wasn't weighted by total country population? If anything, Ireland are at a distinct disadvantage. What it really shows is the public perception of the difference between backs and forwards. Bowe was the best back throughout the tournament, and many of the people voting don't see or care about the work Harinordoquy did, just about the flashy tries. I probably would have given it to Harinordoquy, but not by much, and those were definitely the top two players of the tournament.

Clearly, the IRB method of using an expert panel to pick the player of the year is the best way to do it, which is why last year's award went to O'Dris.... wait, nevermind

Come on it's not a competition. French people, like the majority of fans I suspect, didn't vote because they didn't care.

Holy god folks - can we just be happy for Bowe at being voted the 6N player of the championship witout disecting it and pissing on it.

Congrat's Tommy - well done. (see, easy)

If we want to be impartial, then no.

Most of us have congratulated Tommy.

Congratulations Tommy. Had a good tournament.

But Harinordoquy was the best player.

I'd be pretty embarrassed if I was Tommy Bowe. Harinordoquy was by far and away the best player. Public votes are meaningless

No and no again. It would be like congratulating Thierry Henry for 'scoring' against Ireland in the qualifiers - a completely undeserved merit.

What a joke. He was not the best player of the tournament, at all. It shouldn't be a public vote imo.

Bit of home nations bias. I rather when juries of experts vote on these things. Online polls always go to the smaller interest groups that care too much.

The Irish have done it again...

A bit like "A Nation Once Again" topping the greatest song of all time and Ronnie O'Brien, Juventus topping the greatest player of all time polls.

Tommy, another fantastic season but these but these awards are becoming ludicrous lately.

must confess.... I actually voted for Harinordoquy :o Still delighted for Bowe though

Looking at that Thomas O'Leary must have been getting excited - Bowe had a good tournament , but player of the tournament ??????
anyway we shouldn't care about individual prizes - France won what mattered
