Muscle gain for veggies

    Morning all,

I’ve been getting back in shape after 18 months sitting behind a desk doing not a feck’n lot. My last job was landscaper gardener, which kept me fit and healthy.

Everything is going great at the gym, I’ve spend the past 3 months getting my cardio levels back up and working on some light weights to prep the body for stage two, which I was introduced to last night as I want to start putting some muscle on me. I’m a slight build so luckily have no weight to lose.

I don’t eat meat or any live stock, although I do eat fish, eggs milk etc. I was advised to start taking protean shakes before and after gym but I read the labels and all I saw are not suitable for me. Just wondered if any veggies out there have advice on what I can and should be eating to help gain muscle.

    Thanks in advance,

    Apip

    Fish,
    Eggs,
Milk. These are all good sources of protein, and great for muscle building. just eat/drink lots.

Nut too are good. Most shakes are whey based, which is dairy, so no problems there if you allow yourself milk/cheese.

tuna is a great source of protein .. whey should be fine if your not vegan. and complex carbs will also be required for building muscle

Most vegetarians dont eat fish, for the record. I was veggie but when I started training hard, my body craved good protein so I started eating fish again after 24 years.

Now I have started taking whey protein, which I presume is milk based protein, and as such would be vegetarian but not vegan. It has cured the protein cravings I had.

just wondering if any veggies who dont eat meat for ethical reasons, would you eat an animal who had a natural death if your life depended on it.

There are other forrms that would be much more appropriate places for that question. Let's just stay on-topic here.

For the record, if he eats fish he is not a veggie at all!!! :p

I was a veggie for 3 years and found the best sources of protein was eggs, dairy, nuts & beans/peas.

Have to say, I didn't say I was a veggie, I just don’t eat meat or any live stock. But we'll eave all the veggie v's vegans v's meat eaters for another time :D

Thanks guys for the info, Great to know that whey protein is sutible, I just want to check to check it had no animal fat in there. I shall get hold of some, and also stock up on my complex carbs as well.

I do take http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirulina_(dietary_supplement) at the moment, but its not this type of thing I want to be supping up after a work out. It doesn't taste too good. http://andykdocs.de/andykdocs/document/Nicht-Reiher-Garantie/Waynes-World-No-Honk-Guarantee-Garth-Image-04.png

    Thanks again,
