I have just started running and i'm loving it. I did a 10km run last week and it was my first long run, but since then i've had a pain on the top of my foot. I went out for a run this evening but i had to stop because of the pain. My runners are Asics. What do i do? Should i rest it up? Should i put ice on it to help it heal? I really want to get back out there as quickly as i can, can anyone recommend anything for me?
    Thanks
This is my first post on here so hello...

i got that too when i first started running, it was esp painful when i put my weight on it - for me it was just a matter of resting it up for a couple of weeks. Ive never had it since.

In the meantime, i guess you could go swimming or even cycling cos that way you arent slamming down on your foot like you are when you run.

    Thanks ash
Its such a pity as i am really motivated at the moment. I was hoping to get a few runs in before the 10km great run in phoenix park on the 18th april. You're right though, i might get out on the bike.

I've had similiar trouble in the past but once I starting tying my laces very loose the pain went away so try that maybe

I tried doing a bit of running a few years back. Nothing major, just for a bit of excercise nothing like entering marathons or anything. I got that pain on the top of my foot. It was very disheartening(sp?) to be honest. I gave up the running, thinking it was something wrong with me. Really really sore it was to :(

If the pain is bad as it appears to be then you do need to get it looked at.

Leaving the running for a few days/weeks is a good idea as well.

IMO as we get older and what not, we can accept we will not be breaking world records anytime soon and as a result, for me at least, staying injury free is more important than pushing through some obvious bad pain.

    Best of luck with it!

Just wondering if you could describe the pain as I have something similar at the moment. It feels like its on the sole of my foot and only hurts when weight is put on it. Its fine while i'm sitting etc. though. The longer weight is put on it the sorer it gets. Have had for around a week now

Get someone to look at it prefereably an osteo or a physical therapist. I go to both for different things (osteo for bones and PT for muscles). I can pass on details of two excellent ones if you pm me.

My pain is on the top of my foot on the arch, i think it is probably from having my runners laced too tightly. I have been putting ice on it since last night and i am trying to rest it up. (it is hard to stay off your feet though when you have a 2 year old running around!) If it doesn't start to get better after a few days of rest then i will go to see someone about it as i want it healed as quickly as possible.
    Thanks for all your replies....
