Belly fat

So I have decided to gain a bit of weight and get some muscle. I'm 5'6" and before I started I was 60kg (132lb, 9st6lb) and my plan at the moment is to get at least to 70kg.

I don't have any specific program to follow, i just do the usual weight lifting exercises (combination of free weights and weight machines). I've also started eating a lot so I have enough protein to build the new muscles. I also need to get some fat too as I look too skinny and some extra fat should make me look better. The problem is that the only place where I get the fat is in my belly region (my waist gone up 3") but I want it evenly spread around the body.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t want to get too fat, I just need a bit there and there but it's hard to achieve. Is it even possible, or is it just the way my body works? (i.e. skinny everywhere with massive stomach)

Thing is I don’t want to get too muscely either, even now after training for a month or so I can see some muscle appearing but it already starts to look too definitive (if that's the right word) because I have 0 fat around by arms and upper body and I believe it would look more normal if I had some fat there.

that will be a major stumbling block. there is plenty info in the stickies and logs so try to put a program together and stick it up for critique!

just eating a lot wont get you where you want without heavy compound lifts IMO .. 3" to waist is a lot unless you were REALLY skinny to start off with. maybe you need to gain muscle around upper body rather than fat?

    Hey Paul
unfortunately you have no control whatsoever as to where you store fat, your body decides that, just like when people are having trouble areas in losing weight others also have trouble areas in gaining weight or muscle ie bodybuilders etc. Your bodyshape is a very hard thing to fight, that being said its not impossible, just needs a lot of dedication and even more hard work, eating loads of food wont help because as you said yourself it just all seems to go to your belly so its probably best to take your weights training more seriously, you really need to break down those muscle areas you want to gain weight on so they will adapt and ultimately grow, presuming your protein intake is as good as you say(1g of protein per 1lb of bodyweight tho that maybe more for a hardgainer such as yourself) Its probably your best bet to gain muscle rather then just size.

Putting on 10kg is not an easy task, if you want it done right. Especially when your base start was 60kg. (15% in body incrase) You'd prob be best booking a session with one of the personal trainers in your gym, and getting them to build you a solid program, working "some" cardio into it to keep the excess fat down. Putting on muscle mass is what you should be looking to achive in getting to 70kg, and you WILL need fat to do this. Some protein shakes have high calorie intakes and fat in them. I use BSN Syntha 6 which I find extremely good. Im very similar, 5"6 in height, and was 65kg with alot of unwanted weight.. So I worked on the cardio and got lost 5kg of body waist, and over a long period of about 10 months I worked up to 72kg, doing it right, with a good solid program and the right foods etc. It has to be done right and no rush to get it bang on!

seems like I'll have to go with a proper program. I've also decided to get a kitchen scales so I can weigh the food before I eat it.
I can easily loose the weight that I gained recently by doing a lot of cardio. It's not a problem for me as I have very fast metabolism, but I'm afraid that I'm going to lose muscles as well if I limit my calorie intake..
