This is a log for place pots when I spot an opportunity.

Today Kelso, selections by 2 pm.

Race 1 Dr Livingstone n/r & Coastley place
    Race 2 Bene Lad place
Race 3 Houston Dynimo n/r & New Tricks unplaced
    Race 4 Blacks Bridge unplaced
Race 5 Zaffarella unplaced & Young Buddy place
Race 6 My Final Bid unplaced & Quotica De Poya place

    Two very late withdrawls!

Mike, when there are non-runners your selection reverts to the sp fav. or when there are joint sp favs, the fav. with lowest no.
Dr Livingstone ran but didn't place.
Houston's Dynimo was a nr, there were joint fav's so your selection reverted to Lightening Rod which actually won.

Cheers for that, pity about Blacks Bridge dissapointing so badly.

Its amazing how difficult it is to get a Placepot up. I have a theory that it would be easier with 3 or 4 people because each person will hopefully be looking at it in a different light and will have different info etc. How about we get a few posters interested and they only give one horse each.
Mike can pick the meeting and the first 2 horses in whatever races and leave the rest of the card to the intelligence of the crowd.

The Kelso placepot paid 125 quid, would have been handy for a 1.50 stake.

Interesting notion I supect we'd end up with only about 3 pickers though!

Excuse my ignorance lads but ive never done a placepot, might do one for the 2 meetings on ATR tomorrow.

Can you do them online, on the PP site?

How exactly do they work, just pick a horse from each race to be placed?

Exactly so, the more horses you pick the more the bet costs (minimum stake is 10c per horse) you pick from the first 6 races. Some cards have an "easy" shape to them, Kelsos above being an example, others are near impossible but the prize will be much bigger if you find a place in every race.

Anyone fancy Hereford? 6 races 3 handicaps, two novice hurdles and a hunters chase. They don't look too bad. The other jumps cards have a lot of non runners and a couple of very small fields so only one place.

Race 1 Gamesters Lady & Woodcraft
Race 2 Merry Music & Kahsabelle
Race 3 Williams Wishes & Mostly Bob
Race 4 Five Out Of Five
    Race 5 Overlaw
Race 6 Roby De Cimbre & Lady Myfanwy

    3.40.....William's Wishes (IRE)
Comfortably off the mark over 2½m at Worcester in September and at least respectable efforts under his penalty since. Shorter trip no problem and leading claims if fully wound up after a break.

He looks a banker for me since he ran well fresh last time.

    4.50.....Overlaw
Much improved of late, winning impressively over C&D prior to following up at Market Rasen recently. Good jumper who will be tough to beat on hat-trick bid under a penalty.

    Looks another obvious banker.

    3.05 Mujamead
Front runner who won handicap hurdle at Leicester in 2008/9 for Tony Carroll. Form tailed off over jumps since, including for new stable latest start. Tried visored now (has won in cheekpieces).

Big outsider but stable had a winner yesterday and first time cheek pieces might do the trick. 25/1 ish on Betfair

re Mujamead, last winning mark was 111 in a Class 3 now 90 on Class 5, that they are attaching various headgear for a second time is a bit concerning.

Money coming for Skip The Present in same race 13.00 to 8.00 but hard to make a case for him

Cheek pieces might be worth 2 stone 2nd time round..... the first time the horse had them on he was probably going.... WTF!... now he will go.... OH YEAH! ............ do you know nothing about how horses think!! ....... lol

You usually need one or 2 of the bankers beat to get a big payout.

I've gone with my picks above, total stake €1.76

The Hereford tote for this card in previous years has been a small payout, oh well.

As for the totes take maybe they are still paying off Ernst and Young

The prices don't really matter. Its depends on how many people have picked the horse in the PlacePot. Going into the last race there was about 5k left in the pool from an original 75k......... about 3k of that survived and I thought the pay out would be about £25 quid. I didn't realise the Tote take almost 30% of it as commission...!!

Ayr would be pretty straighforward if everyone jumps but the returns would be pathetic. Ludlow looks the most interesting in terms of finding places and getting a return, two tricky small fields though

Race 1 Bundle Up & Royal Rainbow
Race 2 First Point (only one place to play for)
Race 3 Key Cutter & Bobble Hat Bob
    Race 4 The Snail
Race 5 Cloudy Spirit & Isabelonabicycle
Race 6 Cedrus Libani & Predateur

Here is a Ludlow placepot article I just spotted

    Bets placed.
