Benching in the Squat Rack - Yay or Nay?

Just wondering what you guys think of people using the POWER RACK (wrong thread title!) for benchpressing?

It was suggested to me the other day after I ran into a bit of bother when going for a PB on my own. But I always thought it'd be kind of frowned upon? Just checking as I don't want to end up in the 'annoying gym behaviour' thread!:pac:

Get the job done no matter what and don't pay so much attention to what other people think is the only thing I will say.

its a power rack the man is on about! perfectly acceptable to bench in if you have no spot...or are doing one of the variations like floor press or rack lock outs.....

OP i wouldnt mind the title...if its a power rack bench away if its a squat rack stay clear :P

Thanks for that, it's definitely the power rack I'm on about, I just always use it for squatting so I always think of it as such!:p

In some cases it can be preferable to using the fixed bench since the pins are adjustable so you can decide how high to rack the bar and obviously you have the safeties.

Aye that's what I was told the other day,but I just wanted to be sure it was a normal enough thing to do! I think I'm going to get an 'I told you so' later on:p

    Cheers guys

    Its not a man......

OT, I have done it a few times.
I would do it again, but it obviously takes a while to set up.
I'd say only do it if no-one wants to use the rack and there is no-one around to spot. Plus the pin heights won't necessarily sit right for you.

Anyone who has a problem with someone benching in the power/squat rack for safety reasons falls in the muppet category AFAIC.

Never thought of using the power rack when benching, think you might have started a new trend there...
