Does anyone know the name of the song or band of this song...It has a whistley bit at the start. And then a dude singing. I think a chick joins in later but not sure. The music sounds a bit Northern England indieish. It is NOT that god awful whistley song that's in the furniture ad.

Had a look at their 3 singles on Wiki then listened on YouTube, don't think it was them. They sound OK though :)

Sounds like some choons by the New Pornographers perhaps?

It's not 5 years time is it?
Noah and the whale? Or is that the god awful furniture ad song?

Oh forgot about this thread and the song has just popped into my head. I'll check the New Pornographers now...

Edit: Not them. Didn't know that was them tho, have some of their stuff. I'll check others now...

    Edit: No not them either.

The whistling goes throughout the song...

It goes : weee ooo weee ooo weee oooo weee ooo

First wee ooo highest then the rest go down

And there is a constant guitar & bass riff through out it too. It's an upbeat tempo.

Don't think there is a chick it now, come to think of it.

There is a part in it that sounds a bit like Sally Cinnamon by the Stone Roses.

    Please don't think I'm crazy :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,239 ✭✭✭✭WindSock

Oh and the it's not a solo whistler either :)

    Ha Ha :D

Now I'm trying to think of the song she wants.

    Edit: That's not it TZ

Not a reggae beat to it. More Northern England vibe, the riff in it sounds a bit Joy Division only more upbeat/optimistic.

Don't know the lyrics, I'm initially a music person, rather than a words person.

I reckon the song was about a dude who was lamenting about something. Probably a disappointed about a chick.

    Nope.

At this stage the song has been in my head nearly 24 hrs and it sucks. Especially the whistley bit.

No. You need Shazam!. You're just going to have to sing it for us so someone who does have it can use it.

The View perhaps? They are from Northern Engerland too. Female vocals in there too. Gem of a song IMO ;)

Edit: Bit rate was terrible on the last link.

    Ah. Thanks.

A little less country. NIce song though. Learning of a few xtra bands to check out from here :)
    Is it this?

Yes. It is that, that's my whistling btw.But it's throughout the song and 1 or 2 extra whistlers.

From what I remember of the song, some of it sounds like this only more up tempo. Especially the 2.23 mark.

And the riff is sort of like this, repetitive but more optimistic.

Ok LG if you want to throw this across to Music, I would appreciate it :)

Is it the drums let's go surfing?

edit: I only got it because of Frada's whistling!! the whistling youtube link above.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,898 ✭✭✭✭seanybiker

get madomi instead of shazam. You can whistle or hum into madomi

OMG! You got it, thanks :D

I guess the whistling bit did pay off. Forget the other stuff, that was just a musical montage I had created to what I thought the rest of what it was in my head.

I guess I wasn't too far off with the slight Joy Division influence.

he's a bit of an Ian Curtis wannabe alright. I think they sound very Californian though. Beach boys etc.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,239 ✭✭✭✭WindSock

Yeah, listening to their other stuff, they do a bit. It's sort of a fusion. There is the 'popiness' of California and the beachboys but also a hint of northern uk rock about it too, especially the guitars. Also, the singers accent sounds Brit, but the lyrics etc are a bit West coasty and naff.

Edit: Just had a look at Wiki there. They are from Brooklyn. Well there you have it, centre of the two :)

    Thanks again.
