Abs and Chest

    Hi,
I am 5' 9" and 10.5 stone. I do alot of Cardio exercise. Run maybe 20 miles a week, 100 miles on the bike and swim. I have a good enough diet, no white bread, eat cottage cheese, eggs nearly every day. porridge for breakfast.low GI food etc. and the odd day where I eat a few bars of chocolate and pig out.

Although I don't carry alot of weight I want to tighten my stomach and chest. I have some free weights an ab roller, exercise ball and resistance bands. What I want is just Abs and chest stuff and maybe arms & back. I don't want any work on the legs, as it will get in the way of my cardio training. I don't want to put on any weight or use a gym,

I find the whole weights thing hard and really boring. any ideas on a regime for someone who does not want to go nuts, have big muscles, but just to tighten up and maybe add a bit of definition.

    thanks

What do you mean by tighten up? If you mean lose fat, then I have to tell you there's no such thing as spot reduction. You can cut down your over-all fat level, but you can't remove it from specific places without getting liposuction.

yes lose fat, not correctly worded. I am slim, but when i meant tighten up I meant to lose fat, and just to look tighter or leaner. I thought becuase of my weight certain exercises say for my stomach would toughen the area??

Get yourself a chin up bar. If you can do more than 12 chins add weight, a back back will do if you have one but you'd be better off getting a belt you can hang weights off. If you can do pullups even better.

Press ups as well, same story as chin up with adding weight.

I'm in a similar position to the OP, usually have a fairly good level of physical fitness(currently injured) but am looking to cut some body fat. I know I need to improve my diet, I usually eat pretty well but every now and then there'll be the occasional "pig-out". If somebody could give me a basic outline of what I should be eating, when I should be eating it etc, I'd really appreciate it.

Read the sticky threads at the top of the forum for advice on your diet. See your doctor or a physio about your calf.
