I have to say, I really like Tubridy. He gets such a hard time in these threads. I think he is a great interviewer. He's smart. Funny. Witty. Generally lovely.

I might be wrong (and quite possibly am) but I think you might be in a minority.

Tempted to start a negative thread about Tubridy just to show the OP how it is in the real world regarding him.

The man is the colour grey in human form, with very little interviewing skills.
He's grand on the radio talking crap, but that isn't really interviewing, it's just spouting nonsense.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 300 ✭✭RubyBlu

I know he propably doesn't appeal to the whole 'Big Brother' 'I wanna be famous' 'Celtic Tiger Cub' generation. But I'm one of the Generation X crowd and I find him to be way above the whole culture of today. He is pretty old fashioned in his ways which is nice as it's timeless. He is a 'young fogey' and at the risk of getting in trouble, he probably appeals to a different crowd than is around today. I found him to be pretty good in asking tough questions ie his first late late interview with Brian Cowan/that gom, who was married to the Katona girl (Can't think of his name.) Anyway, I think he wouldn't appeal to him, but some of us like him. He has a really lovely voice and way about him.

I think there is enough negativity with him. It is balanced to have a positive thread.

I have to say, grey is really popular now. Just had all my upstairs doors and skirting painted 'Cloudy' by Colour Trend. It's actually really restful and calming. It's also a classic colour.

the guys a slimeball. how anyone can say that his interview technique is actually good is beyond belief.
for instance, does anyone remember the time he had Stephen and Nicolas Roche on, my god it was car crash tv. Or the time that chris evans was on, tubridy looked like an amateur gimp beside him.

the toy show was complete rubbish too, even pat the plank did a better toy show than this clown

and whats all this jazz crap with the onstage band, its just a rip off of american style chat shows, its shamefull and pathetic, much like tubridy himself

if the type of shows you like are about arrogance, fakeness and snobbery then i can understand why youd like this idiot.

    he's a complete muppet... fact

By the way, as it's called Tubridy Appreciation Group, it might be an idea for positive comments. If you don't have any, then maybe don't post them. Thanks Lads.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,783 ✭✭✭Hank_Jones

The fact is that if you're going to start a thread about some RTE plank, then you're going to get about 95% negative comments.

That's just the way it is.

Try starting one on Gerry Ryan....then watch the fat bastard comments roll in..

Hi Ryan, I agree with you.

    Sincerely,

    Aoibheann.

I like Ryan Tubridy and he was very nice to me on the couple of occasions that I met him before I knew who he was, a real gentleman :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52 ✭✭MD!

the group i've been looking for all my life :D no, seriously. i like him. i cant stand Gay Byrne-i even found pat kenny more tolerable. when everyone says the show was better when gaybo presented it i think its because people were easily shocked in those days. it was a dramatic episode of the LLS if someone said the word condoms!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,368 ✭✭✭naughto

so are ye goig to post(as in an post)t all the the comments to ryan an and hope he writes back

I'll join the Tubs fanclub whenever Ryan finishes that book that he's always talking about (i.e. Never!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 499 ✭✭padz

in fairness to tubs hes ok on tele, its on radio where i find him awful, he talks about the most silly and trivial things at least on the tele he has some guests to chat to but on radio he says silly stuff all the time i feel the radio gives more insight to his personality, he can be fairly bitchy & condesending at times, anyone else notice this? the tv can mask this part of him as from what i see hes usually fawning over guests

From the few shows I have seen he hasnt been awful but then I saw him interview Tess Daly and when he asked her if she was planning to have anymore children was pure car crash stuff.By the looks of it though were stuck with him for the next decade atleast!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 300 ✭✭RubyBlu

So, it was a bit of fun. She didn't seem to mind and to be honest a bit of flirting, double entendres are a lot more welcome than some celebrity naaning on about how hard it is to have children and the effort it takes to write the cheques for the nannys, cleaners, chefs and fitness coaches.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 300 ✭✭RubyBlu

I have to say I really enjoyed his interview with the weather girl (the one with the silver dress). He is a great flirt. Hee hee.

I'm sorry but Ryan Tubridy is an absolute twat. Okay he has worked his way cleverly up the ranks in RTÉ, but his interviewing skills are beyond belief...

Take a typical politician interview(Cowen, Kenny), he has this premonition that if he dosen't let the interviewee respond to the question posed, that he is making progress and making the politician look like a fool? He is ridiculous and very annoyning.

His attempt at being retro and old-fashioned is laughable, as well as his sly nerdy technique to reel in hotties like Aoibheann.

EDIT: His nervous tapping regime whilst presenting "The Late Late", is so frustrating too!!!

That's an interesting point you make, I think he feels WAY more at home no the radio and feels like he is "on stage in front of the parents" when he's on the LLS. That radio show is a load of insignificant fluff, bringing in people like Amanda Brunker and other media whores to contribute on topics of little relevance to anybody outside of Tubridy's privileged surroundings. He tones down for the LLS as this is targeted at a broader audience.

Can I offer Nauseating and Talentless to complete the acronym.

Give him a chance on the LLS. It's such a huge thing for him and it takes at least a season to get his own signature style. Yes, he was a lot more relaxed on Tubridy Tonight. That's what got him the job. I mean at least he doesn't go into a cold sweat when a guest goes off topic like Kenny or avoids the flirt.

He is great on radio. And he covers nice topics. Again, not for the 'Big Brother' 'I wanna be famous' generation. He likes them books too and I like that.

I like Mooney too, but it's as if he's slightly hysterical at times, freaks me out. I like my men to be relaxed and mellow and Mooney aint that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 300 ✭✭RubyBlu

Don't tell me that if George Clooney hadn't such a deep gorgeous voice, he would be so wanted by women. It's at least half of his appeal. It's the law of the wild, man.

^ you've never met Clooney...he could be a right asshole for all you know!

Have you read all the Twilight books?
Is Robbert Pattison the most gorgeous man on the planet?

He tries to imitate Gay Byrne - those days are over move on

When he gets towards the end of a Late Late interview the questions are just read out like autoque, like a researcher put them together and no forethought went into it by RT.

He lacks empathy with his interviewees, which precludes him from getting to revealing dialogue.

One wonders if he was not part of a FF dynasty would he be where he is

I don't think this is relevant TBH.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,054 ✭✭✭✭Professey Chin

He made an interview with Samual Jackson boring and unbearable (he asked about milk ffs!). I think that shows what a talentless twat of an interviewer he is.
And that smug smile.Jesus hes not far off cowell as being the most punchable man on tv.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 300 ✭✭RubyBlu

Mr. Chin, You seem to have taken the wrong turn, the Tubridy Depreciation section is that way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 270 ✭✭jacko

yea, and seeing as the depreciation group already has more posts than this one, and also the fact that most of the posts on this thread are anti tubridy i thinks its safe to say that he's not really liked, in fat he's despised by most.

but as you're happy to appreciate him, to each his/her own i guess.

Tubridy might not be unbelievably likeable but he is the best RTE has on TV. Simple as.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

^ what does that say about the state of RTE and it's talent pool?

I would disagree with that TBH. It depends on the show. There are plenty of better presenters in RTÉ IMO.

Also I generally tend not to post in fan threads when I amn't a fan. Disappointing to see some people here posting.
