Hey guys, thinking of getting a capture card just for the krk to record fun clips of MW2. i am really stuck on which one to get as there is a good few to pick from. Anyway dont got alot to pay :( so i need one at a low price. I dont need it to be in great quality (nowhere near Tallon's quality), but dont want a really really bad quality. Anything near 50 euro??

P.S sorry if i sound like a dumbass for suggesting such a low price. Dont have a clue how much they are.

    Thanks Guys!

Posted this in the sony forum the other day....

Right, probably the best person to answer this since I've tried and tested them all.

First, it depends on what you want quality wise and how much your willing to spend.

    Cheapest option is:
    Easycap €9.99 from ebay

    easycap-usb.jpg

It will record in SD (Standard Definition) and uses composite / svideo.
I use it to record everything, from my Nes, megadrive, xbox to VHS and converting old video camera movies for relatives

    next on the list is:
    Dazzle €70+ ebay

    pinnacle_dazzle_dvd_recorderz82standard.jpg

dazzle works in the same way as the easycap, but a lot of people hate them and the software leaves a lot to be desired. (I recommend the easycap for the same quality but a cheaper price)

And at the high end is:
Hauppauge HD PVR €200 (Official site - here in Ireland)

    haup_hd_pvr1.jpg
    5-30-08-hauppauge-hd-pvr.jpg

This is my baby, I love this thing.

It records through component so you can get HD (720p & 1080p) quality. the files are much larger in comparison to the cheaper capture cards, but the quality is amazing

Check out my youtube if you want to see the quality

    Lastly, you can go for:
BlackMagic Intensity Pro €200 Official site

    hero.jpg

This is the highest quality you can get as it inputs and outputs HDMI.
The only drawback with this is it has to be PC installed and unlike the others, can't be used on a laptop.
The quality is unquestionable though but again, what it has in quality it lacks in mobility

If anybody has any questions about buying, setting up or recording don't hesitate to drop me a PM :)

    Cheers

    Tallon

Hey Tallon sorry for refreshing this thread but my question is
Are the first few videos on your YT profile recorded by the actual easycap ?

No problem at all, yeah they are, I have a few videos testing the quality but I've marked them as private because they really were bad... I'm happy with the end quality I was getting, but can't even compare to the quality now :p

Thx for replaying its all about settings and the actual quality suprised me much. Its great for 10 $ and i compared it to dazzle and it looks better. Its deffinetly something to try out with at the start . Im going to buy it as soon as possible. Thanks again.

The easy cap and dazzle are gay sd play and lots and lots of annoying tweaking involved.

happague hd pvr is where its at....

I wish i could afford one.

anyone see any for less than 200???

Oh C'mon SD is allright when you use right software. Tweaking up is simple and takes just few hours of trying to get the best picture :)

Hey tallon, quick question if you wouldn't mind, about the easycap.. prob a stupid question but still... :P

The easycap looks like it takes the composite output and you use the usb part to transfer to your computer... How can you display on a tv if your composite is in that :o Only thing I can think of is something like 3x of these http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2634 and another cable...

    Thanks

I'm not Tallon obviously but I can answer that for you, you need 3 of those Y SPLITTERS you linked and two double ended AV CABLES.Here is a video that demonstrates how to do it

Easycap is very good and easy to use.

But don't buy easycap on ebay or you will get a chinese bad copy (experienced this)

Buy it off amazon and you will get a great copy you will use forever

Is there a trick to get it to record in colour?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 Purchiz

yea you have to make sure the settings are on PAL and not NTSC

I think the default is NTSC

Download "AMCap". In devices select your cap card, then go to capture and go to "Video capture filter" and try out every one of te things in the dropdown box until you start recording in colour. You'll have to do this every time you start recording I think.
