The second post was originally an ad for that Riptide shower. Obviously has been deleted since.

Certainly sends the line-up in a different direction alright.

The Coronas are alright live. I've never been a fan but I saw them last summer and they put on a fairly good show.

I hope the headliners are good, I'd like to go but I've either seen or arent too into most of the acts announced so far.

is the venue this year near the firgrove hotel? stayed there last year but not going to if its too much of a treck from the venue. if not, which hotel would be closest?

No. It's just up the road from there, a few hunnert yards.

Of all the reasons I've seen for people to decide not going festivals over the years, proximity to the Firgrove is a new one

That's Electric Picnic & Oxegen out too ;)

Ha Ha :) Brilliant.... hotel booked now. Looking forward to another weekend of madness this year :)

    No, sorry Johnny.

    Damn.

Maybe McDonald's will hire me again.

If any of the bands pull out though, keep me in mind!

Press Release – “INDIEPENDENCE is Back and its Bigger then ever”
    Date of Release: 12-April-2010

Curve Music Management are delighted to announce the initial details of this year’s INDIEPENDENCE Music Festival in association with Bavaria which will take place at Deer Farm just outside Mitchelstown, co. Cork over the August Bank Holiday Weekend this year. The intimate 5,000 person capacity event has punched above its weight in recent years with the acts it has attracted and 2010 is no different. Already announced for the weekend festival are London based act WHITE LIES whose 2009 debut To Lose My Life was the first UK act to debut at number 1 in the UK charts. They won best new band at both the Q and NME awards in 2009 while also picking up an MTV Europe Award for Best Push Artist. WHITE LIES will play their only Irish Festival performance this summer at INDIEPENDENCE.

Other acts announced include recent Meteor winners of the best album gong THE CORONAS who have been selling out huge venues all over Ireland, UK Festival favourites Reverend & The Makers whose debut The Stage of Things went top 5 in the UK album charts. DUKE SPECIAL will also perform at this year’s festival bringing his eclectic and eccentric live performance to Mitchelstown. With at least one more headliner to be announced along with another 30 top class festival acts, the line-up looks unbelievably strong for a festival with the lowest ticket price in the country of any festival even close to this size. Other acts announced so far include Jape, Delorentos, FRED, CODES, The Chapters, Wiggle, O Emperor, Fish Go Deep, The Flaws, Yes Cadets, The Riptide Movement, Adebisi Shank and many more.

This year’s new site also adds to the overall aesthetic of the festival. INDIEPENDENCE 2010 will see four covered stages with the Bavaria main stage a 3,500 capacity permanent structure. The site will see a large kids area, additional gourmet food areas and bars along with an electro tent and a few more surprises along the way. 2010 also sees the addition of “The Square”, a little festival within a festival including up and coming bands and DJ’s, a Comedy tent, chill out areas, indoor covered seating and many more attractions. INDIEPENDENCE has been described as “filling the musical wasteland” between Oxegen and Electric Picnic and “the best festival in the country after the big two”, with the line-up that’s coming together and a wonderful new site in place, it looks like INDIEPENDENCE will continue to affirm its position as the best small festival that Ireland has to offer.

INDIEPENDENCE 2010 will take place on July 31st and August 1st with the onsite camping opening at 4pm on Friday July 30th. Tickets are priced at €79 for weekend camping and €59 for weekend non-camping. Tickets are available from www.ticketgroup.ie .

Further details on the festival are available from www.indiependencefestival.com .

Hi guys, I was just wondering if anyone here's been to Indiependence. It's in cork over the August bank holiday weekend. I had never heard of it until today and at €80 for a camping ticket is sounds like you can't go wrong. Although most of the lineup isn't really my thing theres a few bands who'd be good to see and if there's a good vibe in the campsite I'd really consider going.

    Thanks in advance.

A few more bands added including "And So I Watch You From Afar"

Hey I was wondering does anyone know the best way to get to this from Dublin. Won't be driving so it will either be bus or train. The bus takes a lot longer so does anyone know if there are connecting buses that go from Cork train station to Mitchelstown?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 158 ✭✭Curve Music

Not really sure about connecting buses but the bus station in Cork is a 5 minute walk from the train station.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33 mmmbop

Ah cool, I'll look into that then thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,859 ✭✭✭glanman

You can get a bus from busarus to Mitchelstown with no changes...3hrs and 35min....Not too bad...

Yeah as someone who lived near Mitchelstown and travelled up and down to Dublin a bit, it's much easier to get to via Bus.

Aircoach and Bus Eireann both stop in the town en route to Cork, about 3 to 3.5 hours travel time. A car would get you there in about 2.5 hours.

The nearest train station is Limerick Junction, about 20 - 30 mins outside of Mitchelstown, but you'd need a car to get there!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,294 ✭✭✭rainbowdrop

I'd say Mallow train station would be nearer to Mitchelstown than Limerick Junction (and easier to get a taxi from cos Limerick junction is in the arséhole of no-where)

It's about 20miles away, but if there were a few of you to share a taxi, it wouldn't cost that much!!

    Roll on Indiependence!!!!

Hey, hoping to head to some irish festivals this summer but have a limited budget as i'm going to sziget as well so just wondering if there are any volunteer positions still available??
I looked up electric picnic and it said they'd be reopening at the end of june, would there be any possibilty of getting a place?
And i cant seem to find anything as regards indiependence or castle palooza and sea sessions is full up.
Any information would be much appreciated, thanks

I'm so painfully tempted to go, but I don't think I can afford to take the time off work. The line-up looks pretty dam good.

just returned from 5 years in England and my what an amount of festivals there are here this year!!

Can anyone tell me ahout Adibisi Shank and Codes?? I have listened to them both on myspace recently and while very different, both exceptional bands.

Villagers are another who seem to have crossed the water? I joined this site years ago and never really got around to using it so must make more effort to check in!!

    Cameron

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 158 ✭✭Curve Music

Cameron, not sure what you're looking to know about both bands but both bring brilliant live. Have a look at And So I Watch You From Afar also. Another great live band who will be tearing it up at INDIEPENDENCE.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,574 ✭✭✭falan

And so i watch you from afar-The voiceless is class...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2 uniquestar

Howdy Curve! Thanks for that, I am just back from Oxegen myself. in my early 30's now so can't cope with the camping. I caught half of Codes set tonight in the Academy tent i think, hugely impressive and massive crowd for them. Saw Villagers also (joys of living so close to the festival) and managed to catch some of Sterephonics set, a band way past their sell by date Imo!!

Moreso just wondering about how long they were going etc, but have been briefed now and i think i recognise a song of Codes from english radio.

Seems i have come back to hear Irish bands at the right time, will listen out for And So I watch you for sure

    Thanks lads/lassies!
