So, have decided that I'm going to take a protein/recovery supplement after a long spin/run.

What is the best one to get? Are there supplements specific for women? Or do they just charge more for the pink box?!

How's the rest of your diet?

    Hi,
    It's not 100% but I'm getting there..
My daily diet would roughly be like this:

    breakfast - porridge w/ff milk, honey&cinnamon.
snack - 4tbsps nat yog, berries and a mix of seeds/oats.
    lunch - 4oatcakes with cottage cheese/tuna and tomatoes/avocado
    snack - celery w/peanut butter or 2oatcakes w/peanut butter or apple/some nuts.
dinner - I cook family meals, everything from scratch, try to add as many veg as possible(would have some broccoli w/everything), try to have more veg than carbs/starchy veg. I'm aware I don't eat enough meat - eat mostly chicken and try to have fish at least once a week. Weekends, I'm not great on dinners - maybe pizza(I know, I know!) or scrambled eggs and grilled tomatoes.
snack - I do a lot of my midweek exercise in the evenings, so I normally try to eat after, maybe some cottage cheese or milky cereal(special k - again, I know, I know!)

I like to bake, so I do have a few choc chip cookies/flapjacks after dinner maybe 2/3 days a week(but lately I've been adapting recipes to try and make them healthier)

And, I'm aware of my ocd with chocolate, so I try to kee it out of the house. But I would eat 1 or 2 bars of 70% every week.

Weekly exercise would look something like this:
    Monday - 3-5k run
Tuesday - rest(intend to start doing free weights at home here, once I've bought the weights!)
    Wednesday - spinning class
    Thursday - circuit training class
    Friday - rest
    Saturday - cycle between 50 and 100k
    Sunday - either 50k cycle or 20k cycle with a 3krun

Phew!! I feel like I've just bared my soul!!
    Go easy on me now!

nutrition x have a protein out called slender pro,its a 20 gram size serving within the 20gs you can expect to get about 14gr protein the carbs&fats are very low.
If i was you i would just buy any standard whey,

I was actually going to post a similar thread. I have my breakfast at 6am and get to the gym for 7am and workout for 1 hour. I don't get to work until 9:30am so theres a whole hour and a half between my workout and when I get to eat! I was thinking of getting some whey and having a shake after the gym. I know there are loads of brands out there, without knowing what everything on the list of ingredients is it's difficult to pick a product!!
Also, I've read on the supplements thread where people were looking for ideas on how to cover up the taste of their shake! Preferably I would want something that tastes ok too!! Can anyone recommend a good product that doesn't taste like crap?? :) Sorry trash.heap if I'm hiijacking your thread but I think our queries are similar! :D

I haven't really gone for female specific ones...just check the calorie and carb contents. At the moment I love BSN lean dessert protein in chocolate fudge or choc coconut. . The vanilla and banana nut are good too. Optimum nutrition ones are low in calories. The chocolate is nice enough. Vanilla just fair. Got some other vanilla ice-cream flavour from the Vitamin shop before from Gourmet Whey I think? Also quite good!

I've seen a lot worse diet wise. If I was to advise other activity it'd be hitting the weights.

Usually yes and IME and IMO a pink protein aimed specifically at women is a little cheesey and most women are wise to the marketing ploy at any rate.

Just go for a normal, nothing fancy 80% whey protein concentrate. Best advice would be to try and buy some samples from the co's first and see how you get on with the samples.

The higher the protein content the more acquired the taste will be.

As well as the aforementioned Slender pro by Nutrition X, myprotein do one (http://www.myprotein.co.uk/mp-max/mp-max-elle/mp-max-elle-true-diet/) but it's more expensive and not (materially at any rate) really any different to their standard ones which are cheaper.

If you are looking for something for recovery after a run you could try adding some L-glutamine to whatever whey you do get - but you don't necessarily 'need' any supplements, especially if you are mainly cycling / running. Just make sure to eat properly afterwards (oats ftw :))

Yep, expensive pink box, and often more sugar to make it taste nice. I would definitely go for the standard whey. ON do some very nice ones, so you are not even sacrificing taste.
