Knee Issues

Ok, I have a pretty big problem with my left knee. I pulled one of the stabalising muscles at the back of it a few weeks ago while doing GHR's off a lat pulldown machine.
Where it is, it can't be stretched or rolled out, so i just need to give it time. It constantly feels tight and sore, I can feel some pretty serious tightness behind the back of my knee. No amount of self massage will release it.

Funny development happened last night, i pressed on my knee cap and could feel like a crunching in my knee and it was making a pretty grim crunching type sound. There isn't any huge pain when doing this but my left knee feels kind of weak this morning. Has anyone any ideas what this might be? I didn't fall or anything, so i doubt its a cartalidge issue..

Mods please don't lock this thread, the point of this thread is too find out if this is something i need an xray for or something a physio can sort.. im looking for advice on what type of medical advice to get - i just hate paying for a doctor to be told go to a physio and vice versa
