    2.35 Neptune Hurdle.

An outsider with a chance far better than the odds suggest Some Present.

Ran a great race in last years bumper, parentage suggest he prefers good ground.

Had a bad race in leopardstown at Christmas, recovered a little in early February, but most importantly Tom Mullins has suggested that he is back to best. - And Tom is not known for overstating his horses.

Also, I'm reading this in conjunction with Mullins' yard's comments last year that Some Present is one of the best horses thaty had in training for a long time. Assuming that the yard is upbeat about his current form (Tom Mullins interview February 21st) then it suggests the horse is better than the 25/1 (40/1 william Hill) suggests.

8.46am Just noticed Some Present has come in strongly on exchanges and is currently 16/1 on Betdaq.

Hmmm... Right I think it might be time to lump on Master Minded.

Let's hear the negative comments about him so I can weight it up....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,591 ✭✭✭skeleton_boy

Thinking about a big punt on Master Minded myself.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

    NATIONAL HUNT CHASE 4m - 4 miles + big jumps + firming ground = I'll pass!
Quel Esprit 10/3 looks a good thing in the Neptune but Peddlers Cross is a nicer price 6/1
Long Run 2/1 (?) hard to oppose in RSA Chase could be a N J Henderson 1-2-3
Forpaddytheplaster e/w @ 10/1 in the QMCC (has been doing well at home apparently)
CORAL CUP HANDICAP HURDLE - Hampshire Express Willie Mullins/Paul Townend from foot of weights
FRED WINTER JUVENILE HANDICAP HURDLE is a David Pipe benefit - Notus De La Tour
Frawley at about 15s has been the subject of good word in the Bumper, that race is full of possibilities though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,431 ✭✭✭Morgans

    Took ew
12/1 about Becauseicouldntsee in the 4m
16/1 Shadow Dancer in the Coral Cup
28/1 Hampshire Express in the Coral Cup
22/1 Ned of the Hill in the Fred Winter

Also 7/2 about Karabak w/o Big Bucks for Thursday

Have Peddlers Cross (fancy prices) Rite of Passage (not so fancy) and Master Minded (too much) ante post.

I have 7/4 Master Minded and I can see it being my only bet tomorrow

Although Pennek could be a huge price in the 4 miler. Hasn't the smartest form over fences but was placed in the Pertemps last year and all he does is stay

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 106 ✭✭Hot-Rod

    Tough day tomorrow i think.

    1.30 - Any Currancy

2.05 - There is 3 I cant decide between, Rite of Passage/Quel Esprit/Finian's Rainbow. Both Weld and Mullins think their horses are the bet of the week, and Geraghty thinks the world of his horse. At mo edging towards Quel Esprit.

2.40 - Long Run is a superb horse, my only concern in the jockey.

3.20 - Master Minded will be punted big. Forpaddytheplaster is an excellant each way bet in my opinion.

4.00 - Nice simple race to pick a winner :D not!!! Going to do 2 in this race, Quantitiveeasing ew wont be out of the top 4. The other is at a bigger price which i fancy, On Raglan Road ew got 20/1 but is general 16/1, decent horse which seem to be coming back to what he is capable off and is nicely weighted.

4.40 - One to avoid i feel but might do Causeway King ew at 28/1 to keep an interest in the race

5.20 - Already backed Drumbaloo ew at 12/1 so not goint to change now. Elegant Concorde is a big threat though

    best of luck everyone

havent gotton any tips for tomorrow, didnt get any luck today,

tempted to lump on master minded but sure look what happened in the 1st race today..

was going to back forpadydeplasterer but hasnt been running of late-another risky one

Only bet I have so far for tomorrow is forpadydeplasterer antepost @12/1 (e/w)

I probably will do the rest of my betting tomorrow as I'm off.

Have Drumbaloo in the 5.15 tomorrow, but think the grounds going to be too quick now. For me it's Peddlers Cross in the 2.05, but might have a sneaky ew on some present as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,033 ✭✭✭ForeverYoung90

FORPADYDEPLASTERER is surely worth an e/w punt at 10/1(PP) in the 3.20 Queen Mother tomorrow?

A 10euro e/w for me id say...a kerry owned horse, gotta support your own like!;)

    Mamlook @ 4pm .... 18/1....e/w of course, but it's going to win.

    lots of love.

Only Betting on horses i feel strongly about rather than just wasting 10ers for the sake of it.
    2:05 Quel Esprit @ 9/2
    2:40 Long Run @ 2/1
    3:20 Maste rminded @ 5/6
    5:15 Shot From The Hip @ 7/1

Is this a genuine tip or just a personal hunch of yours?:o

Presenting Forever and Tinakelly Lad (both small e.way)
Win Quel Esprit (NAP) f/cast with Summit Meeting
Punchestowns f/cast with Diamond Harry and Chasing Cars (Long Run to fall)
    MM f/cast with Big Zeb
On Raglan Rd, Silk Affair both e/way
    Win Notus De La Tour
    Shot from the Hip.

Main bet lucky 15 Quel Esprit; Notus; Shot; Punchestowns

I reckon one of the easier days....not!!

Best of luck to all after today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,232 ✭✭✭meriwether

Rite of Passage must absolutely, 100%, be taken on after today.

The only thing he has ever done is be stuffed by Dunguib.

Also, Long Run must also be taken on, owing to the donkey on his back.

Not on ly has he to beat Punchestowns, Burton Port, Weapons Amnesty, he also has to hope that Sam Waley Cohen has some form of stroke which incapicates him for 3m 1f, but miracelously cures itself after the end of the race (I'm not a total pr1ck), and also doesn't end up in Sam falling off.

SWC is not a serious jockey, see today when he took off in front in the mares hurdle so he, and she, would get a mention.
He's there because of who his daddy is.

Like that lady, Elizabeth something who'se dad wons horses with Henderson, hence she gets a ride occasionally (no pun intended).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,232 ✭✭✭meriwether

    I have forpadytheplasterer at 8, e/w.
My rationale, is that despite being terrified of his trainer, he may be fit.

If he is, then himself and Kalahari should be the main dangers, and the same price. So I went for the bigger one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 221 ✭✭twitch1984

    frawley in the champion bumper

his owner is after lumping on him and apparently isnt a big betting man so it aint for fun

SWC is a joke to the jumping industry. To think the authorities gave him a licence to ride is a complete joke.

Meriwether - perhaps SWC has already had a stroke, that would explain why he is so bad.

I hope the horse has cantered around the track because I wouldn't be sure the SWC knows his way around.

People say that Magnier is a bad jockey - he's in a different league to SWC.

If long run wins then it'll prove that he's pure class.

    I agree.

Diamond Harry intrigues me. I really don't know what to make of his prospects, same with Citizen Vic.

Could win it, could make me look silly for having backed them.

After a pretty bad day 1 - here it goes
    • 1:30 140th Year of The National Hunt Chase Challenge Cup (Amateur Riders´ Novices´ Chase): Cl2 4m
    No thanks
    • 2:05 Neptune Investment Management Novices´ Hurdle (Registered As Baring Bingham Novices´ Hurdle): Grade 1 Cl1 2m5f
Rite of Passage - very impressed the way he won a flat handicap in Leopardstown last Autumn. 4/1 with Lads.
    • 2:40 RSA Chase: Grade 1 Cl1 3m110y
No bet - Diamond Harry's performance will be interesting
    • 3:20 Seasons Holidays Queen Mother Champion Chase: Grade 1 Cl1 2m
Great e/w opportunity - I will be on Twist - 15/2 with PP at present
    • 4:00 Coral Cup (Handicap Hurdle): Grade 3 Cl1 2m5f
Deutchland - cost me a few quid in Galway last summer and is off 13lbs higher - but is a group horse on the flat rated 134 over hurdles. E/w paying first 5.
    • 4:40 Fred Winter Juvenile Novices´ Handicap Hurdle: Grade 3 Cl1 2m110y
    No thanks
    • 5:15 Weatherbys Champion Bumper (Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race): Grade 1 Cl1 2m110y
Not too confident but depending on how the day goes Hidden Universe

I think that SWC talk on here is about the level you'd hear in the bookies. Usually I dismiss those as lads who wouldnt understand how to use a keyboard. Some serious nonsense being talked.

Believe it or not he has one of the best strike rates over the national fences of anyone riding, check it out for yourselves and I'm pretty sure that he has never fallen at Aintree in I would guess 8 or 9 races. Has already won at the festival against professionals.

Just checked the RP stats. He has a 21% strike rate over fences for the last 5 years. Out of 61 rides.

He looked ugly at one fence in Long Run's two efforts to date but has managed to win twice. He is undoubtedly not of the standard of Walsh, McCoy, Thornton etc, but then again you know that going into the race.

Obviously born with a silver spoon in his mouth I'm sure he is crying as he goes to work in the City and rides two favourites in the cheltenham festival on his spare time.

There seems to be very little opinion on tomorrow's racing for some reason. I would have thought that with the open races people would be putting all sorts of different horses forward.

One I'm interested in is Deutschland - what do people think of his chances?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8 jasmin ruby

Yeah Deutschland is looking good in my opinion Shane732.

Twitch1984 - have heard good things about Frawley too.

My dad has heard that despite the big price that Ballyvoile in the 4.00 will do quite well for himself.

Personally am doing Nina and Becauseicouldntsee in the 1.30
Some Present in the 2.05 and
    Forpadydeplasterer in the 3.20.
After that i don't know and i might be changing my mind in the morning!!
Still sickened i missed out on Chief Dan George though!!!:(
    Should have trusted my gut!!!
    F**k it anyway like!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53 ✭✭Nero Ceasar

Never posted here before so im not going to big and bold 1st time out.
I know most people will stay away from it but i cant see beyond any currancy in the 1st.Won twice on gd ground over 3m looks sure to get the 4m on breeding and his run behind the package last time was well franked yesterday.
Am i wrong in now thinking that ground is the biggest factor in working through a race?
If it hasnt form on good ground then leave it out of your calculations?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,219 ✭✭✭Goldcupfav

Big Zeb is a huge price at 10/1. He has won 3 of his 4 races this season easily and the race he lost at Sandown can easily be forgiven as he was turned out to quickly (3wks) after his race at Navan. If he had of won at Sandown this horse would be clear 2nd fav for this race. The horse is best with a 5 week or more break between his races(as are most top class 2milers). Barry Geraghty has stuck with this horse over FPTP. Big Zeb is going to run a huge race!! Get stuck in !!!

    My Selections*

    1:30 - Presenting Forever @ 14/1 e/w

I think he'll be suited to the 4mile trip looks like he could be a very good chaser, finished second to Wogan last time out jumping well. Greenall is a good chase jockey too and i think it is decent e/w value.

    2:05 - Rite Of Passage @ 10/3

Well fancied, horse i rate alot and looks like he can go on to bigger and better things in the future.
    2:40 - Diamond Harry @ 13/2 e/w

I think Long Run will win this but i think DH is good e/w value here at that price, Won on his only 2 chasing starts and made a few mistakes but still won. Should improve a bit and is a horse i think alot of.

    3:20 - Kalahari King @ 9/2 e/w

The value is gone but i think he's has a fair chance of beating MM tomorrow if MM doesn't run as well as he can, will go e/w to be safe as i don't see him coming outside the top 3 but nor did i see most of todays coming outside the top 3 and alot of them did!. Won a good handicap off top weight at Doncaster lto and the trainer is saying he's the e/w banker of the festival or something similar, the price is gone but not taking any risks after todays shambolic picks. :(

    4:00 - Quantitativeeasing @ 13/2 e/w

Tough race to call, could make a case for a nice few here imo, gone with McCoys ride for this one, came 2nd on his first run over this trip last time out and hopefully will come on for this race. Last years winner of this race Silk Affair is another one i like, only 2lbs between its weight last year and is a nice e/w price @ 14/1.

    4:40 - Stormy Weather @ 14/1 e/w

Another tough handicap to call, no particular reason why i'm backing this one, i like O'Regan as a jockey and i think he could improve after his last run in the mud at Newcastle which he won by a few lengths. No putting much on it, 5 quid each way probably.

    5:15 - Frawley @ 14/1 e/w - NAP

Should of beat Elegant Concorde but was given a balls of a ride and was flying home near the end, won next time out well enough and should improve. One i'll keep watch of closely over the next couple of seasons. 14's is value for him i think and hopefully it'll fly in.

They're my uneducated opinions and i'll back them all tomorrow more than likely. Hopefully it'll be a better day than today.

*Not tips, they're my "guesses" at the races. Good luck all. :)

Got a tip tonight for Tavern Times 9/1 (PP) in the bumper, might be worth an each way bet. Last tip I got from the bloke won.
Also got a tip for Hampshire Express 20/1 (PP) in the 4 o'clock. Less reliable.

Both might be worth a few quid each way but dont hold me to it!

I think MM is solid and should be shorter. If anything, the drying ground will give Big Bucks more problems I think. (with his tendency to race lazily) If MM runs to his best form, he wins.

    130 - Abbeybraney

If he runs to the level of form he was running to last year then he could be in trouble. On the Punchestown run Big Zeb is right there, granted there are question about Big Zeb in Cheltenham.

MM's 3rd this year can be easily forgiven.

If he is in the form Nicholls says he his then I agree he wins but I'm just not sure if I have the balls to go in heavy after the toasting they got yesterday! (I'll have to go and have a look!)

There is always the bounce factor to consider as well.

Nicholls sounds very confident he's back to his best in today's racingpost

If he is and he stands up there's only on winner

The without market is interesting s I think KK is too short, Big Zeb has struggled in England with his jumping. Twist magic has run poorly the last 2 times at Cheltenham but is the form horse of the others. Him or Forpady for me are the 2 w/o MM

I beleive Rite Of Passage will take the world of beating in the 2.05. From a top yard, ground will suit and I beleive he has a touch of class, 4/1 looks good value.
