    Can someone please help.
    Im a gaa player and we've been back training for the last 2 months or so in which time my fitness has been slowly but steadily improving.

    Now the thing is the pain that develops in my achilles is beginning to get unbearable! Not so much during training but more straight after and to be honest pretty much ever present at the moment.
    We had a match this afternoon and right now i cant really walk without a lot of discomfort.

    Anyway i was thinking i cant be the first person to suffer from this so advise would be greatly appreciated

    Bath it in hot water when sore man.
    Strap it up for walking around.

    But defo consult a physiotherapist. they'll be able to look at it properly and give you a regimen of exercises and stretches you can do to strengthen it.

    You need to get this sorted or you could be out for the season. Get to a physio pronto. Had the same problem two years ago, kept ignoring it and then it one game I got a shooting pain up my leg, and was out for weeks. It bothered me all season because I kept going back before it was properly healed. Stay off it now for as long as needs be and you'll be back for the heart of the season. Good luck.

    As others have said consult a trained Physician whether it be a physiotherapist, physical therapist or sports injuries masseuse. Leaving achilles injuries untreated can be awful in the long term. Once the Achilles has been weakened once by injury it will always be weaker and your speed can be reduced.

    Ok well i suppose its physio time then, was putting it off for 2 reasons;

    1 they tend to be expensive and im not all that flush with cash at the moment. Now i know people will say the club should cover it but unless they see blood or broken bones theyre very reluctant to pay medical bills.

    2 At what stage does an injury become bad enough to need treatment?

    Anyway thanks for replies

    2) When you feel tendon pain, go see a professional, best money you'll ever spend.

    Son't be an idiot an go to a physio!

    Jan 1st - achilles pain reared for me and i ran through it for 8 miles.

    Jan 4th - attempted run, too sore on my achilles. Stopped.

    Rested and crosstrained for 2 weeks. The pain didnt disapear. Went to a physio mid january. Achilles tendonosis. Havn't been running since and it will be a good 4 weeks before im back to proper training.

    SORT IT OUT. This is an injury that, if you do not get sorted, could haunt you long term.
