don't stretch before you run, don't run too far your first day,add a little to each run,and take it handy.LISTEN TO YOUR BODY.
stretch your calves, thighs, hamstrings when your finished your run.
wear runners :) or go bare foot up to you

Why would you not stretch before you go on a run?

When you start running it takes a considerable distance to get them to warmed up.
    You don't stretch(static) cold muscles.

Try the Couch To 5K program. I just did my second day of it today. It's a nice easy introduction to running.

You can download Couch To 5K podcasts to listen to while running, which tell you when to walk and when to run. If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch there are apps for it too.

Apparently good runners are very important, I must get myself a pair. I've been stretching about ten minutes into my run, when I've warmed up a bit - I look a bit foolish at the side of the road stretching but feck it, I don't really care.

It's well worth getting into, it gives me such a high!

Start walking..then walk quicker. Next thing you know your running.

Gently at first, get your body used to the act of running listen to your body and forget about distance that will come later keep your first runs short and most importantly...enjoy yourself and be proud of yourself for making the effort.

Consider looking into some good running shoes and look for proper advice on them and try them on. You can't try them on- on the Internet!

As has been said the couch to 5k programme is great to use as a guide on how to build up your stamina and endurance. You don't have to follow it to a tee, you may feel you can progress quicker than it does. Judge it by how you feel.

A decent sports bra and a good pair of runners are an absolute must.
