Out on the 26th. Looking forward to it. I really enjoyed the first one. It was complete sandbox though with no real solid game wrapped around it. Hopefully they've sorted that out in the sequel.

I really liked the first one. I thought the game world was beautiful and the level of freedom it gave me was what I'd hoped GTAIV would of given me.

This looks amazing though. I always loved the sense of height in the world, you could fly miles up and free fall for what seemed like an age.

steam had the first one bundled with arkham this weekend for 20e

tis awful... and the shocking state of the support for it would put me off touching this next one with a proverbial bargepole

    That vid looks pretty good

Never got into the first one, iirc it came out around the same time as Dead Rising and was a little overshadowed by that

Demo was fantastic i thought, gave you exactly what you want from a demo which is just to be able to switch it on and go nuts for 20 mins rather then ramming too much down our throats.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,345 ✭✭✭landsleaving

It was pretty average I thought. Driving felt a bit weird, too loose or something, just not right. Shooting was a tiny bit dodgy, there's probably a lock on mechanic I ignored though.

I enjoyed the jumping from stuff and parachuting, and the huge area, but I can't see it being that interesting for an extended period.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,496 ✭✭✭quarryman

Downloaded the demo last night - its great fun!

Its basically like Crackdown with parachutes!

Reckon i'll be picking up the full game alright.

What annoyed me was I ended up in the middle of nowhere, and had to run for what seemed like forever to get to a vehicle. He just moves too slow for the size of the environment. Also I hated the "vasiline on the lense" look of the back ground environment.

On the plus side blowing stuff up is extremely satisfying indeed. Love it when you shoot the gas cylinders and they whooosh about the place and up in the air :D

I tried this but it did nothing for me which is a shame, however, grappling a guy on to one and shooting it. Now thats a spectacle!

Just Cause 2 is pretty much the definition of free roaming. Its a huge game, and its seriously good fun to play. You can do some seriously fun stuff. I'd definitely recommend it.

Damn it! I won't have a chance to go to town tomorrow and buy it, so I bought it on Steam, only to find that I can't preload it. Now I've to wait ages to be able to play it. :(

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,282 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Why can't you pre-load it? When i looked earlier it was saying pre-load now.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 7,943 Mod ✭✭✭✭Yakult

Is it only supported by Vista and windows 7? :(

I can't seem to put this game down lol Went to bed at half 5 thismornin coz i woz up playin it and talkin to the lads.

Woke up at 7.45 thismornin, like 2 hours later, and turned the game back on.

there's just option showing in Steam like it normally does. I can't understand it.

    yeah it is.

edit: finally got this loading. It's brilliant. I can see it getting repetitive, but I guess it's one of those games that you have to find your own way of having fun. I'm currently trying to free fall from a helicopter into one of those fuel shafts. It's driving me mad but I refuse to stop until I do it!

Liking this game but finding mayhem is more fun than the missions

have done some really retardly things , like things a 6 year old would do just cause i can :D

Why would you willingly fork out €50 for the/any game on Steam? I bought this game online and it cost me €25, and that was for the Limited Edition. Looking forward to getting my teeth into it. Not got much of a chance.

Really tempted to get this. Loved the demo. Its seems like this is what i wanted GTA 4 to be

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,516 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

So far im enjoying it. To begin with the lack of direction and the complete freedom i was given was weird but im getting used to it.
One complaint is that its getting pretty repetitive, go to location, find upgrades, blow up fuel tanks repeat, although i havent done many missions yet so maybe they will throw in a bit of variety

Enter it into Steam, not GFWL.

Couldn't agree more. I picked it up on the PC and finished the first mission..Started playing the casino level got bored and turned it off. It's something that I'll go back to every so often..it's not a game that'll keep you up at night.

I didn't have much of a choice. I couldn't get to a shop and didn't have access to my credit card (Steam saved my details). Plus I don't actually care too much about spending money. Not that I'm rich or anything, I'm just too stupid to think of the consequences.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 634 ✭✭✭loldog

Do you need a really fast graphics card for this? I downloaded the Steam demo but it's too slow to play, I only get around 3 fps in the Benchmark. I have an Nvidia GeForce 8400M... I can't believe it's obsolete already, it plays FSX and everything grand in Windows 7.

    Just cause 2 looks good...

    But Bioshock 2 looks better!

Man I suck at this game, finding it tough going even on normal difficulty :(

Any tip's or tactics for staying alive longer?

Also the planes are a right pain to fly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,516 ✭✭✭✭VinLieger

The hints say to keep dodging using the right button which apparently reduces their accuracy but i dont think it does much although i playing it on experienced so dont know if that makes a difference.
My tactics now are chute into the base take out sams and then grab a heli, usually theres one on a pad in most bases but if not just cause enough chaos and they will very heplfully send one for you to use :P

Keep searching for all th upgrades you can get, especially the health ones. You usually find 2health crates under each bridge that crosses a motorway. This will obviously help you last longer. And don't even attempt to take on any town or region unless it's part of a mission. Only take them on randomly once you're built up a bit.

Played the demo, lots of fun but could see myself getting pretty bored of it. Is there much change between locales/missions?

I kept blowing my car up in the middle of nowhere and having to walk miles to find a road without any cars driving past :(

If you call the black markey guy he can bring you a vehicle or extract you to a different location.
Played the demo, lots of fun but could see myself getting pretty bored of it. Is there much change between locales/missions?

I'm not too far into the game but there only seems to be 4 different mission templates:

    • Escort a technician through an enemy base, then fight the colonel of the base who will be either in a tank or helicopter.
    • Blow up 4 objects in an enemy base.
    • Interact with 4 objects in a location (defuse bombs, move radars etc, its all the same)
    • Hijack a limo then bring the passenger to a drop off location.
It can get tiresome very quickly, but played in short bursts its a lot of fun. You cant beat stunt jumping on top of a flying 747 and sniping people from it.

A- Call the black market for a ride or extraction

B- Grapple on the ground ahead , hit a for parachute then pull back to lift up in the air, and repeat, great for scaling mountains in a hurry too.

I love the demo, i likes to take out the SAM sites and rob the chopper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,496 ✭✭✭quarryman

Funny, I was kinda put off by the demo and I'm glad I picked up the game despite that.

I think the whole attraction is the sheer size of the map and the open-ended-ness. You just don't get that from the demo...
