Was deciding with the missus last night on which takaway to get, and it turned into a conversation about the possible merits of Chinese Food over Indian Food and vice-versa. So what is the After Hours opinion was on the issue?

Chinese - No one in the house likes Indian so it's what I'm accustomed to.:o

It's getting harder to find a reliable indian takeaway, very hit and miss the last few places I've dabbled with.

"Chinese" food. Chicken balls and Curry chips ftw. No wonder they were able to win the Vietnam war! :pac:

I must be one of the few who likes neither.

Indian food.. I cook it a lot and if we get a takeaway, it'll be a good Indian. YUM

    Chinese food is the best.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,572 ✭✭✭✭brummytom

Indian, by far. Really don't like Chinese food at all.

Can't beat a good Jalfrezi, had a curry last night actually

Good Indian food to be had in Brum.

    Indian food
Chinese, I don't have much of a tolerance for spicy stuff and Chinese has a much wider non-spicy variety. With Indian I'm kind of stuck with corma.

I live in the most English place I know; and there's still 4 amazing curry houses within a few miles. Not sure what the quality's like over there, might not be as good.

Indian food in America is horrible; they just can't do it. I don't know why, but Americans seem less adapted to spicy tastes - their idea of Currys and Fajitas are pathetic!

When done well, I think Indian wins in terms of the breadth of flavours it offers.
    Take-away, Chinese is often better.

    Indian food.

I'm crazy about Chicken and Veg Kormas (Coconut Milk and Almond Sauce) and Lamb Saag (Spinach sauce), Aloo Palak (Spinach and Potatoe)

    Peshwari Naan on occasion.

Onion Bhajee are great for people with Coeliac if made with Gram Flour (most are but do check).

Vermilion is the BEST in Dublin, thank me later.

Bu Ali if on a budget.

I like chinese food, but the Chinese food I ate in China is not available in takeaways in Ireland. Here they make their business when drunks come out of the pub an want curry chips or burger. So the chinese "takeaway" is just a glorified chip shop. But there are some nice real chinese restaurants, for example in Blanchardstown there is one near shopping complex and chinese themselves go there for parties and such. Food is great, its even better if you go with a Chinese person who can recommend different plates.

    Indian food
I think most of it all tastes the same. One curry is the same as the next and likewise but not as bad with chinese food. All tasty tho.

Was chatting to someone recently who said that chinese food was amazing.

I asked them what they eat, chicken balls and curry chips, or chicken

curry. The problem I have with chinese food is that it is very hit and

miss if you try anything different from that. same as thai, try eating thai

food in thailand and then try it in alot of takeaways in Ireland and it is usually

    disgusting.

Anyone who says Chinese over Indian is stark raving mad.

Indian is the nicest food on the planet. Narrowly beating Mexican.

Indian is so overrated. Ive been to a good few very nice Indian restuarants and still can't get my head around it. I just dont like it!

    Chinese all the way

Yep. Good Japanese food is amazing. :D

But I do love Indian as well, I'd go to a good Indian place over a good Chinese place any day of the week.

    Indian food
Both are nice but Chinese wins out for me. A good Penang chicken or chicken satay just about beats a good Chicken Jalfrezi. And prawn crackers easily trump poppadoms.

Used to be a fan of chinese but now its Indian all the way. Went to visit my cousins in Birmingham a few times and we would always go to what they call over there a curry house. The food is amazing over there.
I had to laugh at a previous poster commenting on people saying chinese is amazing and then having chicken balls and chips :D:D
Some chinese dishes I do like would be the beef or chicken in black bean sauce. Some of the curries you get in chinese nowadays are rotten and the sauce is awful.
Anyway curry is an indian dish. Had a simple chicken curry there recently and it was so nice but my favourite dish now is jalfreizi chicken its delicious and not too hot. Haven't quite progressed to the vindalooo yet :D

    Thai tbh.

    +1 thai ftw

Indian all the way... Its much sweeter when its sweet and spicer when its spicey but the chinese is hotter.

I also prefer egg fried rice over indian rice.

    However indian wins generally.

None, Thai food is way nicer and healthier than both! I would never get Chinese or Indian really.
