The secong leg of the WGC is taking place on the TPC Blue Monster @ Doral. Harrington is well in contention after the opening two rounds, just four off the pace of Ernie Els.
    3rd Round tee times. http://www.pgatour.com/tournaments/r473/tee-times.html
Coverage continues on Sky Sports throughout the weekend. It would be nice to see Harrington pick up a top five and start building confidence towards the masters.

Would be good to see Harri contend again. Final group of Els and Harrington on Sunday would be great.

I didn't even realise this tournament was on this weekend. Just goes to show the lessening media coverage when Tiger doesn't play. Its not even making headlines on BBC website. Anyway a good result for Harrington would help build up the confidence again coming up to the Masters.

i'd say your probably the only one on the golf forum who didn't know it was on,yes less media interest with no Tiger but i think your pushing it there ,do you not watch sky sports or listen to the radio?

Looking forward to this evening coverage!! My heart is with Harrington but the head says Els or Allenby, both are in such good form of late especially Allenby!
Come on Harry. He need a good low score to stay in contention for Sunday

i don't think Els will win,i don't trust his swing under presure like i used to,it's changed and gets a bit loose,i also don't fancy Allenby to win either, the problem is i can't pick one from the pack,Villegas might get close

McIlroy has really bombed in this tournament, another over par round today.

I backed Schwartzel each way. Looking good so far.

Harrington is playing solid, -2 for his round and three off Els.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,139 ✭✭✭stumpypeeps

Would you believe I backed Harrington to win outright. I backed Kaymer, Schwartzel and Quiros each way.

I'm getting value for my wager at least so far.

Ideally Harrington wins and the rest place.

Would i beleive? yes i do
bt backing more than 1 player in an event with approx 60 players is a false economy and doesn't make sence, that's why i only backed 1 player e/w,and will back 1 player to win tomorrow
btw i hope you get a win but why don't you post your stake's and prices to see what makes more sence

I'm no high roller. Just a few small bets.

    Harrington, Padraig @ 30/1

    neither am i fwiw,
there's no way anyone could argue with those picks, however if you back like that every week you're minimising your chance of profit by backing against your e/w bets,we all know the e/w reductions in general are a f***ing joke,
    your not maximising your profit,
what do you think, does any of this make sence to you?

The each way reductions for a place are 1/4 the odds?

So on Kaymer I'm losing a couple of euros? Other than that I'm at least getting my stake back. But to be honest I bet to keep a little bit of interest going.

Schwartzel was my first bet, two wins so far. Probably just betting for bettings sake after.

I put 25 into the account for the Wgc's and the majors, so I have a 5 euro for tomorrow, but to be honest theirs no value on a sunday.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,683 ✭✭✭heavyballs

but to be honest theirs no value on a sunday.

i would agree if you were talking about this weeks tourney as it's full of winners, but in gerneral you can get decent value on the final day as a huge % of players brick it when in contention
last week Villegas was 8/15 going into Sunday,i hadn't the cash but convinced one of my mates who's a serious punter to back him, happy days

I don't tend to bet on the regular tour events too much cause its got 3 times the players and theres so many unknowns having the good weekend. but I know what your saying about betting on the sunday alright on regular events. but you need to put a bit of cash in to see a decent return. I was also urging a mate of mine to back Vijegas who likes to put the cash in. Go on Harrington.

That said, I've lost a lot of each way bets to guys who didn't make the cut. But Kaymer is someone I feel compelled to bet on. He's destined for a major.

    Who's your sunday tip?

Padraig one off the lead now. Hope he can deliver. among other things he wouldn't need to worry about qualifying for ryder cup anymore.

He really needs a win though, Its been a long time since the last one.

I reckon Padraig is shaping up for the masters. But a Wgc I'm sure is on the list.

Paddy all the way,no bogey since his 9th yesterday, lay Els all day long

Harrington is putting together a very sweet round, -6 for the day and he's after cracking a beaut down 18.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 32,865 ✭✭✭✭MagicMarker

Just stuck my last €8 on Harrington to lead on paddypower @ 13/2. Anyone know if he has to be the outright leader to see a return? I'm not really a betting man!

Has he got the thousand yard stare?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

And then he goes and blows a joke of a putt on 18, dropped shot and back to -11. He's still well in contention mind.

Bad finish but I reckon that'll spur him on tomorrow. Lost the thousand yard stare on the 18th, I reckon he won't let that won't happen tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

You gotta love Jimmy Roberts on interviewing duties. Nice relaxed style and in stark contrast to Tim Barters badgering on sky.

Could have told you he would bogey 18, he does it regularly when going well. After the drive he played it like an 18 h'capper.

Totally, reckon it a wake up call not to get too casual again!!! He do the business tomorrow and im thinking it be a close call though.
He needs to be sure of all the birdies on all the par5s..especially the easier ones!!

Harrington has improved his score every day, if he can improve yesterdays score by a shot and shoot 66 I think it will be enough for the win. That's a big ask on final day but he's capable of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,103 ✭✭✭L.O.F.T

If Els and Schwartzel get caught in a matchplay senario leading the field they may loose focus and be pegged back by Allenby and Harrington. I think Kaymer might just put a run together and we all might end up frustrated by Harrington grinding out pars, hopefully not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Els is after exploding out of the blocks to open a three shot gap over Harrington.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,207 ✭✭✭durkadurka

The golf channel coverage on sky sports is brutal!!! They are showing us Kaymer, Mickelson & Allenby, but all we get is 1 shot per hole for Harrington!!!! C'mon Paddy, stick it to em!!!!!!

decent run of 5 birdies in a row for McDowell around the turn to get to 10 under. Too far back, but good for him to get the confidence back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Harrington is doing too much scrambling to be contending. Ernie has the bit between his teeth and can hold off Schwarzel imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,431 ✭✭✭dvemail

Looks like its gonna come down betwenn the two south africans, Harrrington seems to far back to win now unfortunetly.
Coverage of the golf is very poor tonight, two many adds and not enough coverage of all the players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Harrington putting in his final round folding act, back to -10 now and 7 off Els. He is one of the very few players in the field to be over par for todays round. Poor stuff considering the course is playing relatively easy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,431 ✭✭✭dvemail

Good to see ernie playing well, the golf is hard to watch though, with there being adds on every three minutes and all.

I think we should give him a bit of a break, nothing happened for him. Third in a wgc ain't bad

Putting in his final round folding act? Harsh. He's won as many majors as Ernie, Mikelson, VJ.

In all fairness he has blown a lot of final rounds in the last 12 months. I am happy that he placed joint third. I said at the halfway stage that a top five finish would be good.

True that. Better to be blowing final rounds and finishing third in a WGC than in a major. He hasn't blown too many of them. And in twenty years time what'll we remember, Ernies win at doral or Harringtons masters win? Fingers crossed.

agreed, it's his best finish in nearly a year and better than normal for this time of year. He wasn't hitting anything particularly well and it was hard work even to finish as he did, including the 15 footer for par on the last to hold on to 3rd.

Was very impressed with Harrington this week, good signs for the Masters. He never seemed to give up on the back 9 even though he probably knew himself that it was unlikely he would win.
Great round by McDowell aswell, should get him to a safer position in the top 50 in the world ranknings.

harrington was never really in it....els was brilliant in final round, he never buckled once.....he must have made 5 or 6 five footers and had 10 one putts!

I had allenby pre tourney - got some value for my money but no actual money

jesus were you ever wrong?yeah you're right in hindsight Els was great final round ,
but i still don't think he trusts his swing and on a more punishing course he would have found himself in a lot more trouble,
i'll stick by my guns, you're a great lad slaging off someone's opinion after the event,

yeah sorry about that, but it was a ridiculous call.....

harrington hasnt won in 2 years and you could see that swing creaking again on sunday. Els was playing sparkling golf on the saturday, a couple of bad putts but he was sticking it in close - i was hugely surprised by the way he went away but cheering for him in the end.
