Hi guys, yes you read right, paddies day on a bike. I'll be heading up to Dublin with the intention of going to the club finals in Croke Park. Throw in for the game is 14h00 but I'll be heading up to the Pale the evening before. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in heading out in the morning?

I got sunburnt on the paddy's day spin last year. I'm therefore expecting warm weather.

I'd be up for a short spin in the morning. Do you have any ideas about distance and time?

Any idea of a start time? I will be going to see a much better final that day, might go if it was an early enough start.

There's also a race on in Dunboyne for those intersted.

I was thinking around the 8h00 mark, I'd need to be back in Sandymount for lunch time to allow for a shower and then we'd probably get a joe maxi up to Croker.

I'm going to head out for a 200. Given I missed the Slieve Maan 200, I'm inclined to ride that route (with a few modifications i.e. starting from town, and heading straight back in via the Featherbeds instead of heading back to Bray from Glencree), but I'm open to alternative suggestions if you want to come and you rode the SM200 last weekend.

Yeah but I've changed to Dun Laoighre. So all I need is a meeting point.

Yeah but I've changed to Dun Laoighre.

Suits me perfect. What's the route? If you're starting in Dun Laoghaire I strongly recommend taking in Vico road in Killiney, nice stretch of road, great view!

Looks like it will be a nice day, I think I will break out the Liquigas kit at last. Tempted to join me? Passers by might be fooled into thinking we are pros out training, more likely a pair of delusional weirdos though :)

@Dirk. Are ye staying by the coast?
Am up for heading out to Shay Elliott/Slieve Maan but don't want to go via coast. I should be heading up Kilakee around 8ish.
Let me know what ye are doing/anticipated route.

I better leave the liquigas at home then, we'd look like a pair of prats.

No idea of route ROK ON, I figured el capitan was designing it. We seem to be meeting in Dun Laoghaire so going Killiney, Shankill, Bray and then across to Enniskerry seems like a good choice, but like I said it's up to Captain Havoc I guess. I suppose now is a good time to discuss routes.

I think if it is an 8am start, whatever the route, my absolute max is 100km door to door.

No, no designs, I'll leave that to the natives. Meeting point doesn't have to be Dun Laoighre, I was just throwing that in so we could have some kind of meeting point that meant 50% of the days cycle wasn't going to the meeting point.

I was planning doing dundrum - enniskerry - djouce - luggala - sallygap - enniskerry (turn left at top of hill before enniskerry which brings you out at johnny foxes) - dundrum - home.

Its 80km return from city centre if anyone interested. About 4 hrs at my speed.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,831 ✭✭✭ROK ON

OK I will leave ye off. Bear in mind that if ye are heading down the coast at 8, that Rottenhat is also taking that route on another of his epics if ye want to hook up.

BTW there was a post a few weeks ago tha descent from Glenmacnass was bad.
How bad? Is it a lot of road or could one just go very slowly for a short time.
Also what are roads around Drumgoff/Glenmalure like?

    city centre you say?

what sort of time of the day were you looking at?

I think I might be up for an early one, and 100km sounds good for me. I'm in Cabinteely, so no problems meeting you somewhere in the Dun Laoghaire/Glenageary/Dalkey kind of region?

DESCEND WITH CAUTION.....There is a section where the complete top layer of skin is gone and then of course the various batches of random potholes...what I might be more concerned about coming down would be the rubble on the road tends to be kinda everywhere ...... ENJOY

I would be on for this but what is the earliest you would be thinking of starting at ? ...as I kinda need to get back early family commitments, dye my hair green etc etc..... I might leave you at Glencree and whizz over featherbeds.

As in "I wish I had my mountain bike" bad, and that was going uphill. Avoid at all costs, you could do serious injury hitting it at speed. Like Bikerbhoy says, much caution! It's like fire road, no tarmac, just dirt and rocks.

I'm up for either, mainly depends on if I finish work early, but I don't think I'll go for much over a 100km. Am I right in that there are two separate groups going now or is this all discussion at the minute?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 178 ✭✭Mosiki

I'll be leaving at 8am, return at 12 noon. You can always veer off earlier or go faster at your leisure.

St Patrick's Day: Mild, breezy and dry in many areas tomorrow with some sunny spells developing especially in midland and eastern areas, some patchy drizzle at times in some western and northwestern areas. Highest temperatures 11 to 15 degrees.

Fifteen degrees! Count them! Time to break out the suncream and DEET.

I was still trying to figure out if one group are meeting in Dun Laoghaire / Dalkey for 100KM and another in Dundrum for 80KM?
