why not have a bench lockout meet and half squats? squat suits and bench shirts are alot more difficult than they look, you cant just hop into them and lift more right off the bat. Technique wise they are alot more precise and require alot mroe time to get used to. Wraps just eliminate the forearm strength.

Completely different thing imo(btw ive never lifted in any gear, just from questioning others on different boards and this one have i formed an opinion)

suits and shirts were originally brought in for safety purposes and to stop people using other means of support, and it sort of evolved from there

Im not even sure if straps were on the market at the time, and I think a lot of people would definitely feel that gripping and holding on to the bar are a big part of the deadlift in a powerlifting competition

Why not allow hitching in deadlifts too? That lets you lift more weight.

The only reason I can come up with that makes sense is that there's no other lift in powerlifting comps which test your grip strength. I'm sure you'd agree that grip strength is a major part of being all around "strong" right?

It's not so much a factor in strongman because they've tons of events that test their grip. PL isn't like that.

People used to wrap bed sheets around them to provide extra support/rebound, same story with tennis balls wrapped behind the knees.

Thats what I would have thought, and the straps are solely for assistance, it would be like allowing the use of bands in a chinup contest. I have seen one chinup record discounted since they were using straps, but I do think it is interesting to see how much people can manage with straps, or with kipping. Cardio mentioned half squats and I would be interested in hearing those figures, like you hear of old time strongmen lifting loads of men on a pallet, but just a 1inch lift.

You don't outgrow a squat suit, it just gets tighter :D:D
