Tornados possible in Midwest OK/TX/AR/MO

Gonna stay up tonight and follow this. It's a pity none of the chaser streams I've seen seem to have audio, even if it was just background sound it could add some atmosphere. Still though, good fun chasing from home. :P

Follow this radar next 3 hours, should be seeing some severe storm development east of Dallas towards Tyler TX which is on the radar map near the eastern edge:

    http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=fws&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&loop=no

Currently the front is developing near Dallas and moving east at about 30 knots. I think the severe weather is going to be confined to TX, LA and southern AR, it appears too cold at the surface in OK and MO (elevated non-severe storms likely there, except for southeast corner of OK possibly in the severe zone).

Would be chasing near Tyler to catch more developed and separated cells. There is a good upper set-up albeit on a rather limited scale, and dry air is flowing in rapidly from west TX, dew points range from near 15 F at Abilene west of Fort Worth to the low 60s in east TX.

I'll post the radar further east if it comes into play later, but for now, would watch this one, expecting possible tornadic development around 20z (8 pm GMT) which will be 2 p.m. CST locally.

Hopefully i get to see a tornado later :p, with the amount of individual chasers you would want a dual monitor setup so as to not miss a thing.

To anyone here that might be interested in the live radar program i use, you can download a fully operational 21 day trial from http://www.grlevelx.com/ and if you want to be able to see where the chasers are and who's on what storm or possible tornado

    Open Grlevel3
Click windows at the top left
Click show placefile manager and a little pop up box appears
Click the small yellow file folder at the top left of the pop up box and another pop up box appears

Now open firefox or IE and go to http://www.spotternetwork.org/
    Click alternative feeds
Copy and paste the full text for Grlevelx no call-signs and paste the text into the pop-up box and click ok
Then you should be able to see those chasers and where their going and to what storm.

    Any problems let me know.

Cheers John, will give that a go. Certainly looks very interesting over in the States at the mo.

Action is developing both west and north of Tyler TX now. Warned cells are at the one-inch hail and 65 mph wind gust stage with rotation possible soon.

Here's the radar to the east of the first one I posted. Both are now in play.

    http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=shv&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&loop=no

I would be chasing the cell near Kaufman west of Tyler rather than the larger one near Texarkana, for visibility reasons.

There is a chain of developing severe cells to the south of the Kaufman cell as far as Austin TX, so lots of choices. Would expect a gradual intensification down the line as the daytime heating gets the cloud tops up to where the strong winds are located (this is why they are more intense in the north first, they encounter stronger winds at lower elevations but then run into thermal contrast limitations, while further south, the strong winds are higher up and the thermal contrasts continue).

Currently about 26 C with 15-17 C dew points ahead of the front (winds SSW 15-30 mph), and about 22 C with much lower dew points (winds WSW 25-45 mph) behind the front in Texas. Dew points fall off gradually from about 15 C at the front to zero within two hours and eventually to -10 C.

Anyone have a direct link to webcams in places with possible tornados? I'd love to see one, and the lightning!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 788 ✭✭✭John2009

I dont have any live links other than the news feed posted earlier above but if you go to http://www.tornadovideos.net/live and keep an eye on the chat-room and if anything serious happens in any of the major towns or citys being affected by the severe weather one of the folk on the chat will probably post a link to some sort of news room or cams in the immediate area and you might get to see something,

It's very hard tho when its dark, if this all happened earlier in the evening when it was still bright we would of most likely saw some great live footage from the chasers streams.

I'm out anyway, have a pain in my arse from this crappy desk-chair, enjoy the rest of the evening and happy storm chasing :D

    Zilch.

Keep an eye on http://www.estofex.org/ to see when conditions might be better. ;)

I was watching the KATV news all night. It was a bit exciting/scary. I was watching them giving tornadoes to specific areas and telling them to move to their tornado positions/shelters. Would be scary/exciting to live in a tornado prone area.

Sometimes I hate the boring old Irish weather, but I guess it's fortunate too. I absolutely love thunderstorms and every night I was in Florida, I'd just watch the lightning every night.

Some news coverage here but you need to install a plug-in for firefox

    http://www.clickorlando.com/video/19046963/index.html

I'll load up my radar program in a few and post some images of whats going on in Florida

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 788 ✭✭✭John2009

I highly doubt that you'll see much live streams later, Floridians don't seem to be that interested in tornados when they get enough of their bigger brother (hurricanes) in the summer.

The local news crews would be your best chance and if anything serious happens near a metro you'll have the chopper cam which is unreal to watch if there's a tornado imminent or on the ground.

Follow the chat page on tornadovideos.net and as i said last night the locals there wont be long posting a link to live news coverage

Stick with that stream because if anything drops from the clouds they'll put up views from their tower cams and maybe a chopper aswell.
