Here goes...ran loads in my teens, hadn't run a yard in well over 20 years, I started C25k on 4th January and just finished it yesterday.

Started mainly to help with weight-loss, totally enjoying it so far, a recent birthday provided all the good gear so no excuses now.

Hope to progress to run a couple of 10ks in April and May, hence the training log.

1st race is St Patricks 5k next Sun, can't wait but at the same time I wish I had another few weeks to get ready. Been reading the ART threads for inspiration and advice, mostly very helpful but a few scarly ones, mainly related to black toenails!

Anyway, every journey needs a start...tonight ran 3 miles, took 32 mins.

    How was 5k today?

I should be finished Week 6 of C25k today and I've signed up for a 5 k race at the end of March. I hadn't run in well over ten years when I started this at the beginning of Feb.

Looking forward to seeing how you got on! Hope it went well :)

Dolliemix, 5k was great, had ran 30 minutes before on C25k Week 9 so was hoping to get 5k done under 30 and did it 27:21 - well happy!

Good luck with your C25k, its a great feeling when you do finish it and a then get real race under your belt.

Was in Dublin so had a nice run in Phoenix Park this evening, some of it on grass which was new. Felt very good, beats my usual concrete route through the local industrial estate.

Start of week 4, a re-jigged plan this week to allow for a couple of nights out.

Ran 3 miles, no idea of time, forgot stopwatch :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,029 ✭✭✭DigiJem

Unplanned off day yesterday, not good :(

2 miles (1.87 in Mapmyrun) in 16:10, nite out tomorrow so no training Hope to get back on track on Good Friday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,048 ✭✭✭dolliemix

Don't worry about off day. Everyone has them. At least you got right back on track today:)

I've started using mapmyrun as well. Can it be a bit inaccurate? I was sure I ran 5k yesterday cos I had measured it in the car, but mapmyrun said it was 4.8

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,029 ✭✭✭DigiJem

thanks dolliemix, I find mapmyrun accurate enough so far, but I'm not long using it. I wouldn't worry too much if it's a couple of hundred metres out on a 5k

Back in the saddle after 2 days of nothing. A 55 minute cycle done today, plan is for a 4 mile run tomorrow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,029 ✭✭✭DigiJem

    A 4 mile run, took 35:19mins.

Probably didn't run off all that chocolate from the easter eggs, but nice run anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,029 ✭✭✭DigiJem

Nice 3 hour hike in the Wicklow hills today, should have been a strength & stretch session though - need to focus on that more this week.

    Plan for rest of week:
    6th 3 miles
    7th 40 min Cross
    8th 2 mile fast + strength
    9th Rest
    10th 60 min Cross
    11th 4.5 miles

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,029 ✭✭✭DigiJem

A 2 mile fast run, really pushed hard, done in 15:47, pleased with that!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,029 ✭✭✭DigiJem

Struggled to get Strength & Stretch done all week so tried it tonight.

    SquatFu : 38,30,26,24 ...couldn't finish it.
PushupFu...couldn't even start it, gave up, time to watch the Masters instead!

On a more positive note, went for a run after work with 2 friends who were doing day 1 of C25k..a good laugh with them, they did well, hope they keep it going!

Tomorrows plan is for 60 minutes of cross, a cycle in the sun hopefully.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,029 ✭✭✭DigiJem

Great sunny day, did a cycle for a hour on the mountain bike. Hopefully will have road bike by next weekend :D

Tomorrow is long run day, 4.5 miles

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,029 ✭✭✭DigiJem

First time I gave up a Sunday lie-in to go for a run, wierd that I'm now looking forward to Sundays as "long-run day" :)

Really warm but nice run, ran 4.5 miles in 40:59

What is your longest run so far? You could probably run all of the GIR

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,029 ✭✭✭DigiJem

My longest so far is 4.5 miles. I've being building up by a half-mile each week. If I feel good next Sunday, I'll probably try to run all of it.

If not, my first planned 10k is 2 weeks afterwards in Castlebar, on May 2nd.

3 mile run tonight, in 29:22. Lots of people out running and walking, must be the weather.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,029 ✭✭✭DigiJem

Missed yesterdays cycle, life stuff got in the way.

2 mile fast run this evening, away from my usual route so just ran for 15 minutes. Not sure if it was the full 2 miles but must have been close. Didn't feel great, hoping to get back into the swing of things tomorrow.

    Thanks asimonov & dolliemix.

A little stiff today from the race, only managed about 20 minutes of gentle stretching this evening.

Into 2nd last week of training, plan for remainder of week is:

    21st 45 mins cross
22nd 2 mile fast, plus Stretch & Strength

3 mile run this evening. Nice to get back to flat midland roads :) Felt good and tried to push a bit harder, took 26:58.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,029 ✭✭✭DigiJem

Yesterday bike ride, just over 10 miles in 45 mins
Today, a 15 minute fast run, about 2 miles. Plus a unplanned 30 minutes cycle

Skipped todays Strength & Stretch session again, maybe tomorrow! I always seem to find a reason to skip this :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,029 ✭✭✭DigiJem

65 minutes cross, a 16 mile cycle on the new road bike. Very glad I invested in padded cycle shorts. :D Long run tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,029 ✭✭✭DigiJem

Only managed 4.7 miles in 44 minutes. Short of the planned 5.5 miles, but felt tired and not great... no great disaster I guess.
