I'd say that a good comedy could not be anything like American Pie by definition.

I had no idea there was so many sequels! I gave up caring once I heard bandcamp was in production.

(OP maybe you should check out "Fast Times at Ridgemount High".)

If you like American Pie i'm sure you'll like road trip, old school, eurotrip, van wilder, wedding crashers, not another teen movie, role models, superbad, grandma's boy, beer league, the girl next door, tomcats, saving silverman, harold and kumar, animal house. Or maybe any of the John Hughes movies.

Which do you say would be the best and funniest ( i have seen role models, and not another teen movie

Ha! Great list, man. Highlighted my favs of the bunch. My favourite is either American Pie 1 or 2. My bro loves all of them for some reason, even Book of Love :o To the next step!

ya it's one heck of a list alright

Thought the first Van Wilder was pretty good. Maybe its just Ryan Reynolds. He seems like such a nice guy. Nice missus too...sigh.

Superbad definitely. American Pie: The Wedding is my favourite out of the original three. Don't care to watch any of the others.

I thought Euro Trip was far better than it should have been (given the decline I thought the American Pie sequels showed, for example) and is worth checking out.

For those who've seen it, tell me this doesn't make you crack up:

Knocked Up and The Hangover are a couple of other films worth checking out.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Porkys sooner. American Pie was considered a Porkys for the 90s.

Road Trip, Harold & Kumar and Van Wilder are probably as close as you're going to get to a film that is in the same mould as American Pie. Superbad is a more "modern" version of that style of film.

BTW Fergal, you rate those direct to dvd films a head of the first two films, seriously?

To clarify, do you think Beta House and The Naked Mile are better than American Pie (1999) and American Pie 2 (2001)?

That's what i thought you meant, ya i do think they are better but American Pie 1 and #2 are my next two favourites (i rather the charactors in Beta House and Naked Mile more for some reason and i think beta house and nakid mile are funnier)

Only kidding about "Wings of Desire" there..

Lots of good John Hughes films out there,"Weird Science","The Breakfast Club" etc....Slightly more sophistimicated than "American Pie"..Well,"The Breakfast Club" anyway...

"Stepbrothers" is a surprisingly funny film...Pair of idiots!

The road trip on Tommy Boy is one of my favorites. Especially the big deer scene.

The above link leaves out the best part of that scene -- Tommy Boy's final line is what makes the scene.

    Here's the final line

    That was. . . . awesome.

    Porkys!!

    What a film!
Only saw it for the first time last year, my friend and I were in stiches, and we both grew up in the American Pie generation.
    Highly recommend it!

Some other (better) films in roughly the same vein: 40 year old virgin, Zoolander, Dodgeball, Anchorman.

i particulary liked the first 3 AP films, thought oneof the others was ok, dunno which, should have stopped after 3 imo, i understand the criticism of the films, but just check the brain at the door, forget the world and laugh!

Van Wilder is a laugh if you enjoyed American Pie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,928 ✭✭✭crushproof

Just a quick question....how have you not seen any of these movies?! Nearly everyone I know has seen 40 year old virgin, Zoolander, Van Wilder and the likes! Hiding in a cave for the past decade with just American Pie Dvds...I personally thought the direct to DVD American Pies were awful! If there's no Stifler there's point in watching them :D

I suppose I could mention Kevin & Perry as the British take on the teen movie....

I'm pretty sure there's a stiffler in every AP movie...who knew Sean William Scott had so many brothers, cousins, nephews....all with the same gimmick :D

That. Doesn't. Make. Me. Crack. Up. I remember actually liking the movie but it's been a while.

For the man who likes the American Pie spinoffs: you should be checking out any of Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell (except maybe Stranger Than Fiction), Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Adam Sandler and Rob Scheider's comedies; Farrelly brothers films; Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back; The Ringer; Just Married; The 40 Year Old Virgin; Dude Where's My Car?; What Happens In Vegas; White Chicks; Scary Movie and its spin-offs (Date Movie, Meet the Spartans, Not Another Teen Movie etc.); Harold and Kumar Get the Munchies (and the sequel); Road Trip; Freddie Got Fingered; Without a Paddle; Boat Trip; Forgetting Sarah Marshall...

And BASEketball. Which is secretly great and a better movie than Dodgeball. Derp.
