Come here to me genius, how many ""brits" would in fact be people from NI(British citizenship) obtaining a PPS number in the south?

    I'd say 1.333678953%.

No, I thrive on accuracy. It wouldn't be right to give the impression that I made it up.

Id say anything from 50-70% of the PPS numbers issued are still active.

Estimated at 48%, working and claiming SW.

Immigrants leaving in thousands - National News, Frontpage - Independent.ie

Of the 968,000, about 450,000 still here, of which about 60/70,000 claiming SW.

OP, you haven't had a cogent argument since you opened the thread. Surely you can drag up as few relevant statistics? Or are they gleaned from a hazy 2am recollection of your mate's mate's girlfriend's hairdresser's second cousin's dronings?

What are you babbling on about? I remember you proclaiming that the dole was great since you returned from your travels. Like to feel the "diversity" in the dole office do we?

What about those in the booming black market? What about those back in education? I stand over my figures of anything from 50-70%.

I'll say one thing for the OP though, this thread has given me a much-needed laugh. Good on you. I await your next opus magnus, probably something along the lines of 'Brian Cowen And His Cabinet Are A God-Like Inspiration To Us All - Discuss.'

Yes. I do like that you want to keep Ireland Irish. Cute but unsustainable in the long term. Anyway, thanks again for the laugh.

We were a small rock with 3,000,000 people. Our accession also guaranteed the EU fishing rights in our waters. Hardly the gamble of the century.

Any figures for what the EU gained from our fishing rights? Please don't quote Coir or some other crazies or baby Jebus will cry!

The Germans and the rest took a chance on us. Never before had a country with our economic history been accepted.

    * This may be a blantant lie , we don't need any more goats we can't afford our own goats ffs. Someone stop all the goats coming into our lovely ( financially fcuked ) country.

    * I really don't mind goats , I welcome all goats for a variety of reasons:P

    Indeed, rather handy for you.

Any luck on a link for claiming SWA on landing here? I'm sure you can stand over that one.

I think you missed my point, IrishManSaipan. The example you provided has nothing to do with rights, it's about which country does the paperwork required to allow non-EU nationals entry to the EU. Since all EU countries have the same entry visa's policy, it is logical that if you marry, it is your country that grants your spouse entry, isn't it? And, since one EU country lets your spouse in, so do all other EU countries. Hence, if an Irish person marries, say, an Egyptian, once his or her right to stay in Ireland is establishes, s/he may freely travel around Europe.

What I was commenting on were the differences in the process of qualifying for jobseeker's allowance in Ireland and UK. Ireland did not introduce restrictions similar to those in the UK, where you must be in a full-time employment for 12 months before you can apply for JA. And it is this particular restriction that will be lifted in April 2011. You also mentioned Germany, the situation there is totally different. First of all, Poles need a work permit to work there, that's why they're not entitled to social benefits as once they lose their job, they lose their permit.

They would have to satisfy a residency test IrishManSapain, so it's unlikely they'll get SWA if they've only landed here.

    Cancel that panic then!

At the moment if you are on the dole in Germany/Poland and you decide to move to Ireland, the first three months of benefits is paid by the country of origin, then after that you revert to the Irish SW payment system paid for by the Irish state

That the way it is a present, the difference is that they do not have to be in receipt of SW payments to get into the system?

I did have a nice post to put up here but reading how this thread has gone I've decided not to bother me arse. All I can say is 'I told you so' (certain people will understand).

The post you quoted from me, isn't the dole. It is SWA. IrishManSaipan stated under the new rules he quoted, they could just land here and claim SWA.

Can somebody say that is true? By say, I mean post a link to a Govt. or EU source?

Not quite correct – the point on the fishing rights is correct, I will try and find the figures, the highest is 450 million. Iceland is even more remote and smaller than Ireland, the main reason the population are sceptical about join gin the EU is the effect it will have on their fishing industry. Of course they do things better up there by using there natural resources. In Ireland it appeared to be policy to urbanise society while ignoring natural resources.

It must also be remembered that Britain were in receipt of structural funds too, given the economic size and there history, not only Ireland received structural funding

You show me yours and I'll show you mine!

I have the official figures somewhere. Maybe on the EU forum.

Of course, you'd also have remember to bring in the subsidies we received for farming and the advantages we received with Multi Nationals etc. something Iceland never got.
