    Hi All,
trying big time to cut down the carbs and am just wondering what would be the helthier option? brown whole grain bread sandwhic or a white flour wrap... contents of sandwhich will usually consist of salad and a meat of some sort with very light spread of low low butter.
only having either option 2 times a week but would still like to know which is better?
    Thanks

If you're trying to cut down carbs then niether, try having a coffee cup sized portion of brown rice or root veg instead, in practical terms theres no place for any sort of flour product to be regularly consumed for going low carb so stick to boiled/steamed whole grains. I'd go for a proper 100% wholemeal bread, if it's not really heavy and dense it's not 100%

You could try Khrystyna's Chickpea Pancakes as a low carb sub!!!

If you're low carbing, there's no need to go for the tiny spread of low low - use butter instead (but I agree, neither option as far as the bread or wrap go is a good one). Low carb, high fat is a better option than attempting low carb AND low fat at the same time - plus the fat helps with satiety. have you considered using a Haas avocado, splitting it, removing the stone, and piling your 'sandwich' filling into it? Tesco are doing some realyl nice 'ripe enough to eat' ones at the moment (am eating one right now, stuffed with tuna mayo and a spring onion).

I'd recommend getting one of the various low carb diet books (Atkins, Carbohydrate Addict's Diet, Protein Power, South Beach etc.) and reading up on what you can and can't eat on low carb - or you can find the information online. Better to get the facts rather than trying to wing it and finding out some way down the line that you've been eating the wrong stuff!

thanks guys. basically trying to loose some of the stomach... im aware that weight cant be lost from one specific area, but by cutting down on the spuds and bread im hoping that it may have some effect. Ive been off(ish) them for nearly 3 weeks now with the occasional lapse... 1 pizza and i drunken take away since feb 14th, so i think im doing fairly well. But variety is the killer... esp on the lunches (i dont eat mayo/tomatoes/or any vinegar based dressing).
anyway any more advice would be great... esp sugestions. And yes i am eating nuts as a snack and i have to say im getting to love fruit more and more.
    thanks

nuts are great but be careful with the numbers. I try and eat 10-15 almonds/walnut halves/brazil nuts/cashews or hazelnuts with 3 meals a day and a small number with 2 snacks. The trick is to try and keep eating chicken, fish or eggs throughout the day as it'll keep you feeling full.
