Can someone double check this for me

    http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/front_website/gallery.php?id=358303

Is that a big crease across the bonnet or is it the lighting, if its actually like that its horrible

EDIT - no thank god http://www.salon-auto.ch/en/en-images/ford-focus-(5-door)-2420-20433

    The jury is still out:confused:

Kinda hard to know until you see one in the flesh. Hmmm gone are the trademark upper rear lights:eek:

Dont like the colour. Not sure if it is more slender looking or if its actually thinner

It looks like someone stood on a Kuga!

Engines will be rippers. 1.0 ecobost turbo at the bottom of the range. 1.6 ecoboost turbo will have c. 180bhp. 2.0 TDCI will top 200bhp.

The next quantum step in this class.

Big feshty with a splash of Seat.
Seems odd from some angles alright. Will they still have a special paddyspec "scourge of the roads" 1.4 petrol? Or will all dawdlers now default to Toyota Gorillas?

    I'll stick to my Mk3 and Mk6 Escort's thanks.

If it's half the leap the new Fiesta is it'll be a cracker

Still on drum brakes I see... Hmm.

The engines sound like winners though.

    Ford running out of money?

I like it. Although the side profile has a big dash of Seat Leon about it.

Indeed, always found the brakes on the Focus as being average at best, that and the 1.4 litre engine the only weak points in the range.

Drum brakes on a new car in 2010?

I have no idea, but are any other newish small or medium size cars still on drums?

My 24 year old car has discs all around...

    I don't see drums!

Maybe it's just 'coz it's late:)

I think its awful. A real step backwards.

The three part grille in the front is terrible.

One square with two triangles at either side. It looks lazy and just plain ugly. The rear light cluster is revolting.

I was liking the look of some of the possible renderings but I got a serious shock when I saw the final design.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,362 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

I like the styling, more daring than the conservative Golf anyways.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,339 ✭✭✭congo_90

I think I'll stick to older curvier cars or something boxy that should be. That looks like a kuga, ka, fiesta all in one. In a nutshell lack of imagination for people who are into trends
Me thinks i'm off to R&r as this is my second post on car design in the same night.

Car looks completely out of proportion and looks as if it was styled with the Kinetic style in mind, but designed more out of the thought that it can't look like a Fiesta.

The eighth generation Honda civic is 4 years old yet it looks fresher & more original than this car ever will.

+1. The Civic is(was?) a real brave move.

This is nice IMO, (for Ford) but looks like a 308 and an i30 had a lovechild!

The Focus is getting uglier every generation. Engines on them are supposed to be superb though. The new C-Max looks a lot better

Yeah but the problem is how many Civics do you see and how many Focus's are on the roads.

Fortune favours the brave ....except in car design it seems :(

The biggest problem for the new Focus will be the new Fiesta IMO. Parked side by side in the showroom its gonna be hard to to justify the extra cash , the Fiesta really is that good plus its nearly as big as a MKI Focus of 11 years ago.

really? its hard to tell cos the Fiesta looks so compact

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,903 ✭✭✭cadaliac

I like it. I think it looks great to be honest. Nothing too daring but nice all the same. I honestly thought I would never say that about a ford, let alone a focus.
Anyway, thats my opinion, and I aslo think that the new civic is the most oddly shaped out of proportion car on the road today. Simply rotten.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,309 ✭✭✭VolvoMan

If there weren't so many rough edges it wouldn't be a bad design. Those three triangles at the front don't particularly do it any favours.

Besides the above, look at the bloody size of the thing!?! I'd say that's as big as a Sierra hatchback of twenty years ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,533 ✭✭✭Zonda999

Where are ye seeing that the new focus will still have drums at the back? My mother has a focus and always thought the brakes were poor, you definitely notice the difference in a golf with disc's all round

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,971 ✭✭✭Holsten

    Hate the rear lights.

Other than that I like it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,915 ✭✭✭GTE

First generation (after the face lift) and the second generation ones look much much better.

Thats just modern yuck to me

I'm going to have to wait to see it in the flesh before I make up my mind..

The saloon features here, and it does look nice. Like a mini-Mondeo..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 393 ✭✭Gitb1

I cant see much difference between that and the current saloon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,706 ✭✭✭fonecrusher1

The front of it is quite nice but dear god who ever designed those rear lights should be publicly flogged. Look at the size & shape of them.:eek:
Always thought the 1st gen focus was a mess & the 2nd gen was possibly one of the most boring looking cars i have ever seen.
The new fiesta is a lovely little car i admit.

This latest focus already needs a revamp.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,680 ✭✭✭mondeo

I would pick the fiesta all day long simply because it looks alot better.

People will buy that horrible looking focus anyways since it seems to be a model that holds it's value.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭Boardwatcher

What is it with all the Fiesta lovers here.

I drove one yesterday and it did not do a lot for me. The interior is cheap plastics all round. Whoever said it has much space as a Focus hasn't been in one recently.

I would much rather spend the money on a 2yr old Focus than buy a new fiesta:eek:

The centre console of the Fiesta's plastics may not be of Lexus quality, but it's beautifully designed and very ergonomic. It's certainly not as bad a Yaris or other Jap cars for horrible cheap plastics. The rest of dash is actually made up of some sort of velvet material which is pure class. It's a supermini at the end of the day and some cost cutting measures had to take place. I drove the 1.25 petrol today which is the standard (in Ireland anyway) 82bhp engine and it has loads of power, even more than my MK1 Focus 1.6 Ghia Hatchback. The ride and handling is just superb too. It also feels so well constructed. You honestly wouldn't think you're driving a supermini at all. It truly deserves all the acclaim it's getting from the motoring press and a lot of posters here. Superb car!!

I dont see anything wrong with it..!
especially with the prospect of a 200bhp diesel

The foucs in the pics above has discs all round. But in fairness the majority of cars in that category have discs in front and rums at the back. Standard practice up til now anyway I would have thought

Nope, Golf, Astra, Corolla, etc all have had front and rear discs for a good few years now. I had a 05 high spec Focus Ghia and it still had rear drums. Found the brakes a bit soft, not poor mind you, just softer than my previous cars.

Drum brakes are more than adequate in that class of car. They only do a small proportion of the overall braking in any event.

p.s. On the higher performance models rear discs are standard. They are also fitted on the C Max.

You can do a conversion I think yourself for not too much, was reading out how to do it on the mk 1.

Very good point. My GF has a Focus II and we go to England regulary and hire a car everytime. Recently got the new Fiesta and it was excellent to drive, excellent inside, very roomy and decent boot space.

There is also a new trim available Z - TECH

LMAO when i saw that in the title:

It looks ok: not wildly different from the previous version and you're unlikely to see one that (Seat-esque) colour in Irleand, where they'll mostly be silver. I'm not gone on the big grilles you get in modern Fords (and Audis) - I think they'll date badly.

Anyway, the main thing about the Focus is handling which - according to the 5th gear video - should be the same or better, so I reckon it will continue to sell well, provided it's not too far off the golf and astra in terms of emissions/tax.

PS: Will it still have the handbrake on the wrong side and will it have isofix as standard? These are two main marketing boo-boos of the MK II i have, although maybe the Mk III sorted those out.

I think its nice, 4 door hatchbacks never look as good as the 3 door versions, so id say hold back on the negativity until you see the 3 door versions with different spec, i think it has potential and will be a real looker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,482 ✭✭✭✭Ush1

I'm sure you can, but why bother?

Fair point, are discs THAT much better?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,564 ✭✭✭AugustusMinimus

Surely the first Focus where the 4 door saloon looks better than the 5 door hatchback ?

Unlike with the Mark 1 and Mark 2 Focuses, there seems to have been a bit of thought put into the design of the Mark 3 saloon. Lines seem to flow nicely and all. Previous saloons were nothing more than the hatchback with a boot bolted to the back of them.
