    Hi All!,

    Need some advice.

I'm 5ft 10, female and play rugby. Now I should say attempt to play rugby as i'm 22 stone in fatness, the heaviest i've EVER been in my life.

I find when I go to training that it's my breathing that gives up before anything else. People think I have asthma due to my breathing but it's really just major obesity. I really am trying to shift all the fat though. Problem is that I go training and then the next day i'm grand but then my body aches, it feels like pains in my bones so then I miss a session beacuse i'm sore sore. This is very annoying as I have been told that I am really strong 'for a girl' (gurrrrr) so I don't know why my body hurts.

A few years ago I joined a gym and toned up really well but then had a foot operation and couldnt go for 3 months which resulted in me getting out of the habit and all the muscle seemed to turn to jelly and ive just kept getting bigger. Once I was a size 12, now i'm a 20!!!
I honestly very rarely eat rubbish food, try to stick to a celiac diet (i'm not celiac but i find wheat doesnt agree with me) and take supliments yet I am ALWAYS tired and sore and having IBS doesnt help.

So im on here to ask if anyone has any ideas as to WTF I can do? I feel i'm letting myself and the team down by not attending training 2 nights a week and Rugby is the only sport i've ever loved playing. I find other stuff like walking to be very very boring.

Sorry for being so negative, just being honest about my fat ass situation.

    All suggestions very much appreciated.

    Thanks.
    :D

Can you post up what you've eaten today so far? Be honest. Nobody will judge you.

LOl poop! Today was my break day......I ate porridge, Had a hot chocolate, two handfulls of blueberries and ahem.....a pizza. Normally I eat porridge, drink 1 litre of water, some fruit (bananna/plums/oranges etc), muller rice, dinner with chicken and veg or salad. Most days I have a whey protein shake too as I found I'm less bloated then.

come on you can do better than that - diet IN DETAIL. Every single meal and the breathing and aches are more a factor of your weight than anything else so lay out the diet and work from there

Ok, Well im one of those people who just eats when they arent hungry. Like when Im bored or if someone else is eating so I find it hard to remember if/when I eat.

Normal day is a whey protein shake at 8.15am, muller rice at about 10am, gluten free porridge amde with semi skimmed milk at about 1.30pm with a cup of hot chocolate made with semi skimmed milk, some fruit and water until I get home, chicken kiev with salad (no dressing), large glass of lactose free milk. I also take desicated liver, vitamin b12, vitamin k2 and pharmaton. I am also on medication for RLS (mirapexin 3 x 0.088 per night), depression (lexapro 5mg daily), and severe stomach acid (nexium 1 per night).

Break days (2 per week) I dont tend to go mad but I allow a bag of crisps and a bar of chocolate or like tonight, a pizza.

Are you sure you are being honest with your cheat times and stuff. Not calling you a liar but sounds like very little food considering you are quite overweight. I eat alot more than that and I'm not overweight. Sometimes keeping a food diary means you can get a better idea of where the calories are coming from. You'd be amazed how the little things add up.

Would weight gain be a side effect of your meds?

Exactly!! Now you can see why i'm so frustrated. I really do not eat to excess and I am trying to get more active. Feel Im banging my head against a brick wall. Since i met the other half Ive put on 4 stone.....poor boy doesnt know what's happened to the girl he met.

In fairness, its probably the year or so that I really didnt look after myself finally showing itself. Just never noticed how bad it had gotten until i'd say 9 months ago.

Despite what you have listed as your diet and whether you believe it or not, you are eating far too much food for your lifestyle.

Really? Damn it!! Have you any suggestions? I thought I was being good. :(

Maybe it's your portion sizes? I know that used to be my problem, I thought I was eating healthily and technically I was - but I was just eating way too much. Also, you said since you moved in with your OH you put on weight, so it could be that you are matching your portion sizes to his maybe?

You could very well have something there. I still have that voice telling me to clean my plate so I prob do eat big portions. Ok, cool. I'll be more observant about my portions.

P.S. Don't like with my OH, that's a whooollleeeee other thread issue i'm sure. LOL.

a bit of tough love required here. firstly, fair play for taking the first step and realising you need to lose weight. 22 stone is a dangerous weight imo. you are not being as good as you think, it takes a HUGE excess of calories to get to that weight. porridge is fine as long as you are not using cream and loads of sugar? forget protein shakes, you dont need them. mueller are also junk. eat more fruit, veg, fish and chicken

That often happens when you get settled in a relationships. Nights in, in front of the telly with a takeaway etc. I'm sure your boyf isn't that shallow. You can always tell him its his fault anyway :)

I don't know if you have checked out the food diary forum yet but it seems to be really good with plenty in the same boat as yourself who are really supportive to each other, giving tips etc. Also check out the stickies in the diet and nutrition forum as well as the fitness forum. It will give you a good idea of your calorie needs etc as well as the right kind of foods for weight loss. Although your calorie intake doesn't seem to be overly excessive in my opinion, it can depend on where they are coming from - protein, carbs etc.

However, if it your medication and not your diet, you will have to ask your doctor about it. I know a girl who put on alot of weight due to medication.

Awww thanks so much everyone! You have all been great with your advice. :D

I'll go look at the stickies.

    Thanks again all!

    agreed

Definitely +1 for the food diary. Keep it with you and log as you go. It's amazing how many little things slip by without you even noticing! As it is you seem to eat less than I do...and I'm under 5ft tall.
Medications are a potential factor too, even though it wouldn't be a common side effect of those particular ones. Worth discussing with your doctor if you think there may be a connection.
    Good luck!

    She's not from cork, like!

Sorry, didn't know someone had replied recently. What's OP??

No, don't drink really. Not beer or fizzy stuff.

Went for a consultation recently with a sleep specialist as it's an area I struggle with and she hypoythesised (??) that my sleep issues are effecting my weight issues which is something I never thought of in terms of zero energy etc. How stupid of me!

OP is "Original Poster". Much shorter than "Yes I am a Moany Cow!!!"

If you have an iPhone or iTouch theres a series of excellent apps that can help with tracking your food intake. LoseIt being the most popular. Failing that there are websites that you can login to and track your intake as well.

OP, why are you taking whey protein shakes?? i take them too but only when i want to bulk up and put on mass for gaining muscle. I think maybe the protein shakes might be playing a part in the weight gain.

They are also really good after lifting, to help repair and replenish the muscles. A scoop of whey in water is only about 120 cals. A bulking shake would have lots of sugar and possibly milk as well.
