Cavan Oldest man at 105 has never taken a holiday

Jesus this got me thinking, fair enough if thats his choice but what about his wife. There is no mention of his wife in the article in the irish independent, surely she is entitled to a holiday the poor soul. Anyone else know stories of people who have lived a long time but never been on a plane, outside Ireland, or even own a passport?

It's good etiquette to link or preferably quote the paper your refer to OP.
Cavan's oldest man reveals his secret
    Tuesday March 02 2010

THE secret to a long life is hard work and porridge.

Michael Fitzsimmons was given the honorary title of 'Cavan's oldest man' by family and friends as he celebrated his 105th birthday.

Mr Fitzsimmons, from Knockateggart, Stradone, was divulging a few tips on longevity as he enjoyed the day at The Lavey Inn, Cavan.

The secret is hard work, porridge, riding his bicycle until the age of 100 and not taking any holidays in the past 105 years, quipped the jovial birthday boy.

"He rode the bicycle all his life up until 100... then we had to let the wind out of the tyres," his son Michael junior joked. "He received the President's Bounty when he turned 100 and he was delighted with that."

Mr Fitzsimmons, who was a builder and renovator, turned 105 on Tuesday, February 23. The party was held a few days later for 70 friends and family.

The number of people living to over 100 has been increasing. Every Irish citizen receives a letter from the President and the Centenarian's Bounty, around €2,540, as they celebrate their 100th birthday. Earlier this year, Bride O'Neill, from near Fermoy in Co Cork, believed to have been Ireland's oldest living resident, died just a few weeks short of her 108th birthday.

I've met a few people around the West that would have been to Dublin once or twice and that's about it for travelling.

Regular porridge and living in Cavan?

Why would anybody want to endure 25 years of that, let alone 105?

I'm not surprised since Cavan people are known to be stingy. Probably wouldn't cough up the few quid for a cheap flight abroad.

Reckon he's holding out as long as he is just so he doesn't have to pay the gravedigger.

I know of a woman from Limerick who never travelled on a train until she was 32, and even then she only went on a day trip to Cork. Talk about leading a sheltered life...... The same woman is the oldest virgin in the country I'd say!!

Ryanair invented the concept of holidays in the 1990's.
I'm quite shocked that you didn't realise this previously.

It's hardly that surprising. Both my grannies are still alive (91 & 92 years of age) and have never been abroad.

Jaysus, of all the things you could go without for 105 years, I don't think sex would be one of them! I'd lose the plot before then!

Ive never been on a train either, unless you count the DART. Ive been to over 20 different countries though. Meh, never had the need to. Either drive or fly.

I still can't get over the thought of someone of capable mind and body going with sex for 105 years. If that was me, I'd go yeti on someone out of pure sexual fraustration.

Imagine that was her dying wish, to lose her virginity before passing on! I can taste the puke just thinking about it!

None of these long lives seem worth living at all.

Spending over 100 years in the same place?

    No sex?

    No drinking?

Feck off, I will happily die of a heart attack at 40 if it's while getting a BJ from a 21 year old waitress while I sip on my Scotch in Miami.
