Low fat snackst

Im trying to lose a bit of weight at the moment- I excersise regulary so am keen to take care of what I eat.

Anyway my main weakness is snacking, otherwise I eat mostly well.
So I thought that rice cakes would be a good snack to have lying around but today a friend said that they can actually turn out to be fattening (although they have little fat)- something to do with fat storage, Im not 100% sure but a Google search shows a fair few sites that claim they are not a good loss weight snack.

Anyway, apart from fruit (which I already get enough of through smoothies) what good, healthy snacking foods can people recommend?

Yes you are committing the error of assuming fats will make you fat. In fact Sugars will make you fat quicker than fats and most foods advertising themsleves as 'low fat' are actually full of sugars..
Rice cakes are complete muck, it is basically no different to eating a biscuit as it is full of simple carbs and is not very filling at all (someone on here recently called them about as filling as starvation!!).
Fats are actually an essential part of our diet and if you try to eat a low fat high carb diet, it will actually be disasterous (you will never be full up, your skin will go dry etc).
Many people reccomend eating nuts as a snack. Now nuts are loaded with fats but they are very nutritious, contain essential fats and are filling. Other snacks could be a tin of Tuna, a boiled egg, maybe a natural yoghurt with some raisins?

The snack that I'l loving at the minute is celery with peanut butter...sounds a bit ick but it's really tasty!

Oatcakes with cottage cheese is another nice one...add jam/cinnamon for sweetness or cooked meat/tomatoes for savoury-ness.

Popcorn - I pour about a teasppon of oil into the pot and then wipe it with a piece of kitchen roll, so there's very little oil in it. Add some smoked paprika for a savoury bbq taste.

But, browse through here, you'll find loads of snack ideas - and info on why they are good.

i think i know the difference between healthy and unhealthy.
all i was saying was it works for me and the rice cakes i eat are unsalted.
i need to check the back of the box of the rice cakes for more information.

and its not right as every single piece of reaserch show better compliance and better weight loss with at least 30% fat intake and that includes snacks

I said that but but in hindsight what I probably meant is low sugar (having fell into the common trap of thinking all fat is bad for you).

Anyway thanks for the advice guys, some good tips there- Im especially going to try out the lettuce, chicken and mustard idea- sounds yum !

its fine to offer an opinion but no body wants it shoved down their throat in fairness. if somebody asks for low fat ideas then they are obviously trying to keep fat intake low, which does actually work. low carb can work too.. there is no one size fits all
